It's a very great book because when he's a boy he likes to fish, he became an apprentice to a fisherman, he finally he gets his own ship, and has great battles!

2007: 4-stars
I do enjoy many older authors and titles. My note in the back of this book reads, "worthwhile reading for people of all ages."
2026: upped to 5
Too bad I don't have other titles in this series. The first 168 pages focus on JPJ's early years; the last 24 provide a little insight into JPS's fame.
more appropriately called 'historical fiction'

Johnny plays 'spilikins' with his brothers
Johnny rolled out the handful of thin, colored sticks. The object of the game was to pick up the sticks, one by one, without moving the others. ...
That's a classic game that I haven't seen on shelves for a long time, but it's probably still available and probably the sticks are plastic.
