This is a goddamn masterpiece. Like. Where do I begin? Normally I shy away from 1000+ chapter novels as if they are the plague, but this one really does it right.

The chapters are short and move the plot along quickly. There really aren't any extraneous characters. I only skipped maybe 50-60 chapters that took place in the Southern Moon Kingdom because the OTP were separated but they weren't separated that long so I can't really complain. The novel probably could've ended 100 chapters earlier but I understand the author wanted to tie up *every* loose end which ok. But back to the story.

Our heroine: In the modern world she's an orphan with food insecurity issues. She travels to ancient times and is born in a household with tr*sh parents who foist her off to a monastery to be raised because they believe she's cursed. Luckily she's adopted by an awesome sect and learns martial arts and how to harness her powers of clairvoyance and divination. Her mission given by the sect master is to help the country's current crown prince successfully ascend the throne, but given how she acts we wouldn't really know that.

Our heroine is the saltiest of salted fishes. All she wants to do is eat and sleep until she dies. She's just one of many concubines in the CP's east palace and he wouldn't notice her at all if she hadn't foisted a protective talisman on him one day that inadvertently saves his life.

The early chapters and interactions with our OTP are hilarious. He doesn't understand a person who only cares about eating and sleeping but finds himself intrigued by her ridiculousness in spite of himself. She also confesses her background in the sect and they start working together to solve little mysteries in the palace using her powers of divination. Over time the crown prince starts spending more and more time with her because she's the only person he's ever met who doesn't want anything from him except for food and a place to sleep. When he offers her rewards all she wants is to raise a barnyard in the east palace so she can have farm-fresh meat and produce every day. xD

The CP falls in love with her first and it's really beautiful to see. All his life his family has done nothing but use him and scheme against him, and TBH he's almost done caring. It's the female's unwavering belief in his chance of success that makes him realize that he can transcend the chessboard and become a player instead of just a chess piece.

While the humorous interactions between the OTP never quit, the novel does get darker and more dramatic as the palace intrigues culminate into a bloodbath. (For starting out so light-hearted, a lot of people in this novel die, just warning you lol.) We also get more xianxia shenanigans as we are introduced to the heroine's martial brothers who all eventually play a bigger role in the overall story, and several "big boss" villains to be defeated satisfactorily.

The complete and utter devotion the CP has for the FL is the cherry on top of an already delicious sundae. Alas! Our heroine has one last secret she can't bear for him to find out because she doesn't want to break his heart...

Guess you'll just have to read it to find out. :P

I tried my best to finish the novel. But I instead I got only to chapter 520 before I could no longer forced myself to continue on. I might come back and force myself to read another 10 chapter or so.
