Okay, to start of, I like the decision to change the narrative language. The Wattpad version was written in Taglish esp Penelope's POV (monologue). The book version wrote her POV in English, excepting dialogues from others when the setting goes back to the PH. It is a very good decision that fits the narrative based on context. Penelope grew up in the US, of course her internal monologue is English!
I rate this a three because the pacing during the first half of the book was a bit of a drag. I had to put it down for weeks before I could bring myself to get back to it.
The latter half though? Peak! Once the climax of the story hits, and the action starts it's hard to put the book down. I finished the latter half in one sitting! (Admittedly, it took at least 3 to 4 hours max, but still!)
The moment Ansel was freed made me tear up. I probably would continue tearing up with the following events but someone pissed me off in the middle of my reading 🤧🥹
The emotional momentum just vanished very quickly at that. But trust, this book is still good. Really you just have to get through the expositions and the rising action.

There are just so many obstacles for the female lead—she can’t even catch a breath. She’s cool, and I love how the author portrays her, but instead of focusing solely on how she overcomes everything, I think she could at least work on not blaming herself for everything that happens.

i should’ve reread erityian tribes before starting this book. i think it would’ve been a much more enjoyable experience, and i would’ve felt more connected to the characters.
it was still a fun read and of course i cried a little. purpleyhan really knows her readers.

this book amazes me big time! it also made me admire purpleyhan as an author so muuuch!
