Scopri il mito di Iside e Osiride e la contesa tra Horus e Seth! Da un webtoon sorprendente per ambientazione e scelta dei personaggi, interamente a colori, il mito di Osiride rivisitato in chiave boys’ love. Inganni, intrighi, battaglie e... desiderio! Tutto questo è Ennead!
One of the best stories I've read but don't be fooled by the tags there isn't an ounce of romance just pain and suffering. Defenetly not for the lighthearted it's a heavy story with a lot of triggering themes.
tw: incest (most varieties), violence, sexual assault, sexual assault/rape recovery, colorism, orientalism
ENNEAD sometimes gets recommended as a thing you should read if you like BL and you're ok with darker themes. It's an interesting suggestion in that regard because I wouldn't really classify it as a BL. The two characters are arguably both male and in a sexual relationship, but they're also gods, uncle/nephew, and arguably not in a relationship at all.
The art in ENNEAD is quite good, with a clear eye towards action and distinctive character design. It's hard not to mention the strange orientalism that feels like it's very present in a webtoon about how all the Egyptian gods are all having sex with each other and are also very rarely dressed, but I am perhaps not the best equipped to go whole ham into that conversation. There's the general colorism of dark and powerful top paired with a smaller, whiter bottom.
If you're a person who would be troubled by incest, there's honestly no reason to read ENNEAD. There are very few relationships featured in this story that are not directly incestuous including the main "pairing" (again, I feel kind of hesitant to call it a pairing).
The writing is interesting, if a bit too complicated for the chosen medium. I appreciated the growth of Seths' character the most over the course of the run, giving him a bit of pathos to what could have been a fairly one note characterization. Similarly, Horus was a stoic character but one that felt like there was hidden depths there and not a lack of characterization.
Overall this is a hard recommend - the story is kind of mid, though the art does a lot of the heavy lifting here. The themes of incest and sexual assault are rather prevalent, bordering on gratuitous, and I'm not sure the rest of the story carries that level of intensity.
I really wish I’d checked the trigger warnings before diving into it. Sure the art style was so gorgeous with mythology vibes and everything, seriously, it’s so well done. But the story? Yeah… not for me. After vol. 3, things got way darker than I thought they would, and some of the themes were pretty wild. Like, way crazier than I was ready for. So I won’t be continuing the series.
I read volume one over a year ago, which is crazy. The hardcovers are just so expensive, and the wait so long. But I’m finally continuing with this series now.

This first volume left me feeling teased and wanting more. Definitely gonna have to seek out the rest online. Waiting for the books would be absolute torture. Especially since these can be read in one day, easy. But I’m very much intrigued and enjoying this. Been a while since I read anything based on Egyptian Mythology. I’m also a sucker for morally grey characters and love-hate obsessive relationships.
This is a captivating series starter. Volume 1 is all about introducing characters and the central conflict, so while this is a BL manga/ webtoon, there's nothing of a romantic or sexual nature in here yet. Instead we get a rich backstory and a compelling cast of characters. Be aware that everyone is related to everyone, so that may be a deterrent to some, but this is based on Egyptian mythology so it makes sense. I'm very excited for more.

so, i’m just trynna get a feel for this before i actually begin reading so, in the beginning of the story, it says that seth and isis are children of nut and geb, so they’re siblings the synopsis read that horus is son of isis… now i might be totally misunderstanding the rest of this, bc is it supposed to make this okay bc they’re gods (horus “not yet one himself” implied that he’s a future god)? this is incest, right? is the entire BL story literally about an uncle/nephew romance, etc.? or is the assumed biology thrown completely out the window and completely insignificant bc they’re deities and therefore human biology who?bc not gonna lie, i was excited to read this, but now i’m just uncomfortable
Got the paper version as a present and was veeeery excited. I like where the lore seems to be going but the book felt soooo thin, it was over only after vaguely introducing the main characters so it was far from enough to satisfy the lore thirst. I suppose that’s the deal when reading a webtoon on paper tho. Feel like I could easily swallow 2-3 more books in one sitting to get more into it. Will carry on binge reading online
Yeah this is exactly the Egyptian mythology I remembered and expected, probably a little more manhwa but still. Unfortunately the technical incest wasn’t surprising bc that’s just how Egyptian mythology be 👍🏻
I’ll continue but not much happened in this volume tbh :/
I may be rating this too highly, but it is a fascinating use of Egyptian mythology. Not sure where the purported BL comes in, but I have a couple of ideas.
Sometimes you pick up a book from the library and it's a swing and a miss. The art style is cool but the story is not for me. It's way too confusion and weird.
Wow! This was a wrapped Boys Love manga that had 0 love and 0 reason to be wrapped. 😂 And yet, I still loved it.
I’m a sucker for mythology based worlds, especially when I know something about the gods and folklore within it. Seeing as how this is based on Egyptian mythology, I knew a little bit about it (thank you to The Mummy and The Kane Chronicles😂).
Like I said before, I went into this expecting something completely different than it was and maybe we’ll get love from later volumes, but for now, this was all about war, destruction, and tragedy. Which tbh, I’m here for!
