Utterly Amazed: Stories from Outside the Boat

Rate this book
More than 3 billion people in the world have never heard the Gospel—not even once.

But who cares?...

To many American Christians, these statistics about “unreached” people seem too unbelievable to take seriously. How could anyone in this day and age not have heard of Jesus? We assume that people don’t believe in Jesus because they don’t want to—that they’ve had the opportunity and have chosen a different path.

But that’s just not true. As my friends and I have traveled the world, faces that these statistics represent have looked us in the eye and asked: “What’s this word… Jesus?” or “Which one of you is Jesus?”

And it has wrecked us.

I wrote this book with those faces in mind. If I can put a face with a people group or a statistic and somehow personalize the billions who have never heard of the Savior, then maybe we, the Church, would do more about it.

We want you to know the people around the world who don’t know Jesus. We want you to feel their lostness. We want you to join us in doing something about it. We want you to write your own story from outside the boat.

COME.

Utterly Amazed: Stories from Outside the Boat is a powerful and encouraging reminder of what God can do when we step out in faith and trust Him completely, even when we feel inadequate or unprepared.
This book holds special meaning for me because my son was blessed to be part of this ministry, sharing the gospel in prisons alongside the softball teams. I have personally witnessed the impact this experience has had on his life, and reading these stories brought those moments back to mind in a deeply meaningful way.
Through John Andrews’ firsthand accounts, the book clearly reflects his heart for the lost. His stories are authentic, humble, and faith-building—not only showing God’s work in the lives of those being reached, but also encouraging other believers to step forward, share their faith, and join in discipling others. The message is clear: God doesn’t call the equipped; He equips those who are willing.
This book is a beautiful reminder that when we trust God beyond our fears and step outside our comfort zones, He can use us in ways that truly amaze us. I would highly recommend Utterly Amazed to anyone who desires to grow in faith, be encouraged in evangelism, or simply be reminded of God’s power at work through willing hearts.
