Last man standing. I’ve watched all three of my friends fall in love with no desire to ever follow in their footsteps. Collectively, we own the hottest restaurant, bar, and brewery in town. They are a few of the places I find peace, a refuge against this cruel world. When I’m on the stage playing music, everything just seems to fade away.
Until I saw her.
She was sitting in the crowd, a bright, beautiful ray of light, fighting against the darkness surrounding me. I do everything I can to keep her in the friend-zone, but she’s making it difficult.
I don’t just want her; I need her.
Madelyn
The first moment I saw him on the stage I knew he was different. Rough, tattooed, and with the voice of an angel, he was playing guitar and singing a song about love and hurt. I was captivated, completely drawn to the emotions I saw in those warm whiskey eyes. From that moment on, I felt compelled to be his friend.
He didn’t make it easy.
The boundaries between friendship and relationship start to blur, and even though he fights me every step of the way, I can’t help the way I feel. I promised him I’d always be his friend.
Avid reader, writer, mother, and wife! I love to read contemporary romance. Add in a little "spice" or hot guys in uniform pants, and I'm a happy woman. There's just something about diving into a book and engrossing in the magic of your hero and heroine getting their happily ever after.
What a great way this series is turning out to be – everything about this was perfect. From the way they met to the way they ended up together. If I’ve learned over the years that Lacey Black knows how to play my heart.
You can't help but want to hug Jameson and just never let go so I really can’t fault Madelyn the way she fell in love with him. On the other hand she too needed someone to take her in his arms and offer her to be herself. And Jameson was just the man for the job despite not believing they have HEA together. Their understanding of each other and giving space when they need it was what selled the book for me. The past has a way off marking you for life but with good friends and someone to love you unconditionally you can see that there is still good in the world.
This book made my little heart sing and I’m so happy to see there is more coming in the series.

This is one of those series which you read in between too many intense ones, simply because it doesn't ask you to invest your emotions past the point of empathy. That isn't to say it is surface level—the book does have depth. But it doesn't play with your heartstrings, take you on a rollercoaster and wring you dry.
Madelyn is so far woven into my life; I fear I’ll never be able to extract her. If I ever wanted to.
I knew I would love Jameson's story. He is so soulful but grumpy. Caring but aloof. It was a combination I couldn't not read. Madelyn is great for him. She is strong and has a genuineness to her personality that instantly attracts our MC. The two are adorable.
It really pains me to write this because I was so looking forward to Jameson’s story since the very beginning but this was kind of a let down. (Possible spoilers ahead).
I felt zero chemistry between Jameson and Madelyn. I know this was an “opposites attract” kind of thing, but it just did not work for me. I liked Madelyn, but she was just so stiff and really boring. In fact I felt the entire book was kind of boring. Nothing really happens between them except they begin a friends with benefits kind of relationship. But there was no tension or anything compelling that made me really want them together. The way he called her “Mads” seemed like he was talking to a sister. The sex scenes were good, but we also got their internal thoughts of “we’re just friends”. Late in the book, Jameson even contemplates sleeping with his skanky hook up because he wants to get back to his “old self”. He doesn’t do it, but it pissed me of that he even considered it. Anyway, he realizes towards the very end that he loves her and that’s it. As I said it was just kind of boring and anticlimactic for me. I was expecting so much more from Jameson’s story.

Burgers and Brew Crue has been my favorite Lacey Black series to date, and Wild Side is loads of swoony sweetness. Small town charm, slow burn chemistry, opposites attract, and tons of sweet romantic goodness- it’s the perfect feel good read.
This fourth book in the series (each can be read as a standalone) gives us the story of grumpy giant Jameson and the determined politician’s daughter, Madelyn. On paper these two couldn’t be more different- the growly alpha Jameson is nothing like the privileged Madelyn, but thanks to her life taking a turn away from the path her detached parents want for her, bring her into a whole new family and group of friends. A friendship blossoms between her and her trumpy tatted badboy, and I just fell so in love with them together. Their flirtation, the authentic emotional connecting, their spark- it makes for such a deliciously sweet story.
I have adored these characters and this Burgers and Brew world- huzzah Lacey for another tasty morsel. This one may be my fav of the batch!
Oh my heart! It will never be the same after FINALLY getting Jameson and Madelyn's EPIC story! With Wild Side, the fourth book in the Burgers and Brew Crüe series, Lacey Black continues to shine as a small-town family saga QUEEN! Now, to try to make sense of the words scrambling in my sleep-deprived brain!
Wild Side is a slow burn, sizzling, low-angst romance filled to the brim with everything I love about a LB story! I simply could not put this one down! This book can be read as a standalone, however, I highly recommend you read all the books in order to get the full background on Jameson in all his grumpy, growly goodness!
This story is truly an opposites attract love story with Jameson (aka Tank, which is a perfectly appropriate nickname for this gentle giant of a hero!), whose tender and somewhat Alpha personality only comes through when he allows you into his inner sanctum due to a nightmare childhood on the "wrong side of the tracks" and Madelyn, who was raised in the lap of luxury and expected to be the dutiful debutant daughter, marry the man not of her choosing in order to please the cold and emotionally stunted parents who birthed her! But she's a strong-willed, independent woman who knows her own heart and mind, who wants NOTHING to do with their "life plan". When Madelyn discovers she has family she didn't know she had, she takes matters into her own hands and leaves the only family she's known and finds a family who loves her for who she truly is! She also finds a group of friends who become family, which includes the tattooed, guitar-playing, grumpy bad-boy, Jameson!
Ms. Black hit this one right outa the park! I was already half in love with Jameson before Wild Side, but now?! The banter, the sizzling chemistry, the flirty feels, the emotions....all combined to have me swooning and sighing at the supremely satisfying conclusion! Once again, Lacey saved the BEST for last, making THIS one my fave of the series!
I love Lacey Black books and read anything she publishes. That being said, this was probably one of my least favorite books that she has written. Which I am extremely sad about as I have waited for Jameson's story from the beginning. I felt a huge disconnect between the characters, and it didn't feel like a good match-up. I felt this story was based more on lust than on love, and it was extremely evident in the continuous reminder between the 2 characters that they were just friends. Usually, Lacey's books by the time the characters get together I am so excited and couldn't wait another minute. In this book, I really was just frustrated with how the story came together. Furthermore, for such a long-awaited book, I felt that this book was rushed, didn't build upon the relationship as much as her previous books did.
I LOVED that we got to know more about Jameson and see the dynamic between the characters we love from the first 3 books. I didn't get the appeal of Madelyn nor did I like her character and the way she was portrayed.
I will say that the Cliffhanger at the end...I am super excited for. I will always read Lacey's books and can't wait for the next one but this one just didn't do it for me.
I have been waiting for the last Crüe's story, namely Jameson, the most complicated man among the guys and the last one to fall. This guy caught my attention when he fall so hard for adorable Lizzie (from the first book) and he protects her then too. Swoon! However, he is not interested in whatever his friends have fallen into and that's not for him. Until his eyes caught on prim and proper Madelyn.
They're total opposites. But they can't keep themselves away from each other and there's certainly an attraction between them. These two are intense with their feelings, they really get deep there. I loved reading them opening up to each other and understanding each other in ways other people don't. I couldn't put it down, I finished it in just one sitting. You might think this is the last book in the series, but of course, Lacey is amazing like that and we're getting a surprise book! I can't wait!
I've been waiting for Jameson's story since he first showed his face in the first book of the series. His grumpy demeanor was intriguing from the beginning but every once in a while a glimmer of the soft heart that lay below was seen. The way he interacted with Lizzy and his sister showed the reader that the big man nicknamed Tank had a gentle side. Ms. Black does an excellent job showing just what a good man Jameson is in this story. He's been happy for his friends as they each found their soul mates but his past has his firmly believing he doesn't need or deserve love. Enter Madelyn and Jameson's carefully crafted one-night stand world is turned upside-down. This is a story of opposites attracting and a slow burn, friends to lovers romance. Madelyn is more debutante than small-town girl but she left her insufferable, controlling parents behind in New York when she found she had family in her parents' hometown. Independent and strong-willed, Madelyn knows what she wants from life and it isn't a stuffy arranged marriage to a senator. Meeting Jameson upends her world. Little do either of them know that their friends with benefits arrangement has a much deeper meaning. What follows is a hardheaded alpha denying his feelings and feeling unworthy because of his past and the woman who shows him just the opposite. Ms. Black writes with heart and emotion. Her characters are well developed and defined. They are loyal friends and amazing soul mates when they finally get out of their own way to reach their HEA. I strongly recommend this entire series and I think Jameson is the most intense and lovable of the four partners. You know what they say: the bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Sigh. This one felt…rushed. He’s opening up to her and letting her in his inner circle after, what, a week? And there wasn’t much to their relationship leading up to that. They’d literally seen each other casually a few times. I just wasn’t feeling it. I was on a high after Isaacs book which I loved, but this.. I’m sad I didn’t love it more. I really like the Jameson character and was really looking forward to his story. Books one and three were my faves for sure.
Regret picking this up. My enthusiasm for this series stopped 2 books ago. Was a steady decline for me since then. Too much drama and weak characterization. Was hoping it would get better since this rounded out the Crue but nope.
I’m really loving Lacey Black’s Burgers & Brüe Crew series, but for me that’s par for the course with her. I’ve read all her books, and when it comes to small town romances, Lacey’s are the ones I seem to reach for first when I want to get lost in the drama and familiarity of a close-knit community. Charming small towns, endearing characters, sweet and steamy romances entwined in fun, engaging plots are what make Lacey’s stories so memorable.
Jameson and Madelyn’s story was emotional but not overly angsty. Jameson has a bit of a heartbreaking history, and because of it, he tends to be a bit closed off. His overall demeanor seems to be perpetually set to grumpy, but the more time he spends with Madelyn, the more his sweet and tender tendencies start to come out. Madelyn’s backstory wasn’t exactly easy either, but she’s left that life behind and built a new life with a family of supportive friends for herself. She’s independent and can be a bit headstrong at times, but she sees Jameson in a way that no one else does. They strike up a fast friendship, but the smoking hot chemistry between them is difficult to ignore and benefits are added to their friendship. Jameson always swore that he wouldn’t follow in his friends’ footsteps and fall in love, but everything about his feelings for and this relationship with Madelyn is different.
Wild Side was a slow burn friends-to-lovers romance that stole my heart. Full of feels, flirty banter and a friendship set on fire, Madelyn and Jameson’s love story was simply unputdownable. Five smooches from me for Wild Side by Lacey Black!
I'm a HUGE fan of this series, so every new book that is released becomes my new favorite & Wild Side is no exception. Jameson is broody tortured soul (with a big heart) who doesn't do relationships because of his past so he doesn't let many people in, and I LOVED him. Madelyn came from a well to do family but when given a chance to escape them for a whole new family, she packed up & left the wealth behind. These two are complete opposites on paper, but the heart wants what the heart wants at the end of the day. That doesn't mean that it was easy, nope, Jameson gets confused with these new feelings while they were connecting as friends first. It was so sweet to experience it all alongside them because they're relationship goals. Lacey Black is so talented that everyone needs her in their lives because you'll never go wrong with her books! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Jameson has a heartbreaking past that has shaped him into the man he is today. He doesn’t allow many people close but when it comes to those he does his loyalty is unwavering and there is nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Despite the fact that he was drawn to Madelyn from the beginning he believes she deserves so much more than he can give her.
Madelyn’s past was everything that Jameson’s wasn’t however it hasn’t made her happy. She is determined to have the future she wants and not the future that others have chosen for her and that begins and ends with Jameson.
Jameson and Madelyn are exactly what the other needs in their lives and the developing romance between them is swoony. Although their lifestyles couldn’t be more different Madelyn is determined to show Jameson that all she needs is him.
This series ROCKS!! Lacey Black has given us yet another amazing story that’s more that what it seems.
We were waiting for Jameson’s story and Lacey delivered in a huge way! Jameson and Madelyn shouldn’t work, but that’s why they do, they see each other like no one has before and it’s just awesome to see.
This group of stories has all of the tropes that great romances have, but honestly to me it’s more about making your own family. These four guys and their women are a family in the best ways.
So if you like low angst, high emotion, heat and teasing the only way best friends can do then this is the series for you.
1) Kickstart My Heart 2) Don’t Go Away Mad 3) Same Ole Situation 4) Wild Side
Having read the three previous installments i instantly started looking forward to more! As soon as i found out about this fourth book i couldn't wait! I picked it up and got back into the Burgers and Brew Crüe world! I so enjoyed this fourth installment!
Jameson and Madelyn's journey pulled me in from the get go! The moment Jameson see's Madelyn in the crowd, I couldn't wait to see how things would play out. I really enjoyed their friendship and their chemistry was so great! I was so glad that i got to dig into their minds. These two had me feeling so many things throughout!
Once again, I very much enjoyed what the other characters brought to the story as well!
With Wild Side, Ms.Black has created such a good read that you won't want to turn away from! I can't wait to dive back into the Burgers and Brew Crüe world with the fifth installment, What's It Gonna Take!
Wild Side is the forth book in the Burgers 'n' Brew series and is Jameson's story.
Jameson and Madelyn could not be more different he's the tattooed bad boy and she's a senators daughter but as soon as they meet there's a chemistry that's hard to ignore. They become friends and soon have added benefits to their relationship but what's happens when hearts become involved. Even through its the last thing he thought he wanted is Jameson ready to give his heart to Madelyn and love her the way she's always deserved to be.
This book really made my heart happy and I cannot wait for more.
I really loved how thrown Jameson was by Madelyn right from the start. It seemed like Madelyn was making the first moves because Jameson couldn't or wouldn't. He was his own biggest obstacle to a relationship with her. When the two of them could just be, they were great, but when Jameson started to think to much, he did them in. I'm glad that he woke up, but hated the reason why. The ending to this one was cute, loved the different epilogues, it let us know they were happy and moving forward with things.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, secrets, pain, and heartbreak.
The below are part of this series if you want to read those books(s) first Kickstart My Heart (Burgers and Brew Crue #1) Don't Go Away Mad (Burgers and Brew Crüe #2) Same Ol' Situation (Burgers and Brew Crüe #3)
This is Madelyn and Jameson’s story. When they meet there are instant sparks. She is pulled into his core group of friends and they hang out. Until hanging out is not enough. Then it turns into more. But are they both feeling the same or is she falling and he is passing the time? Can the build something when they have such different backgrounds or are they kidding themselves?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
book felt pretty boring to me, didn't evoke any kind of emotions from me. the only reaction i have was falling asleep.
additionally, i think the facts wasn't presented correctly. in chapter 19, the heroine was saying her mother was trying to fix her up with a congressman who is fifty-seven years old, and eighteen years older than her, which makes her thirty-nine years old (which makes me a bit confused why a 39years old woman is still under her mother's control). but in chapter 20, the heroine said she received access to part of her trust fund on her twenty-fifth birthday, and the remaining will be released to her on her thirtieth birthday which will be in a few months.
i was totally confused, is she 39 or 29?? i mean it's quite a big difference between 39 and 29 to be honest. both the author and editor are probably half asleep while editing the book *eye roll*

Jameson is my favourite. 😍😫 Always was throughout this whole series and definitely was in this book about him. I just love himmm 😍 I wasn't impressed with the first book, not as I should've been. However Lacey Black DID NOT disappoint. Each book afterwards got better and better, and this book, was just 4.5/5 for me.
The reason as to why it wasn't really a 5/5 is because I feel as if there should've been more a depth to the Hs' childhood that he was unable to let go of. It was glossed over which put the rating down. I also was not impressed with a scene with the OW, if you want to call her that considering the H and this woman weren't serious. But besides all of that, it was a solid 4.5 for me, considering I got to know the characters from the other books.
Also don't you just loveeee the found family trope? 😍🥺
I fall more in love with the Crüe guys with every book in the Burgers and Brew series. I've always been partial to Jameson (aka Tank). Underneath his grumpiness, I knew his story was going to grab my heart and not let me go. There was something about Wild Side that had me taking my time to read. I wanted to spend as much time with Jameson as I could.
Jameson and Madelyn had instant chemistry with a touch of a slow burn as he fought his attraction. Jameson has a dark past, but the pearl and cardigan-wearing Madelyn brings a lightness to his life. Wild Side is book 4 in the Burgers and Brew Crüe Series and can be read as a standalone, but the friendships are so deep that the characters from the other books play a vital role in the story. I love this make-shift family and how quick and easy Madelyn fit right in. If you don't read the previous books first, just know that the friends share their histories with Madelyn.
Jameson and Madelyn are complete opposites. He grew up on the wrong side of town while Madelyn grew up privileged. His adverse background causes him to doubt the goodness deep inside. What he feels for Madelyn scares him. I loved seeing Jameson fight his feelings but was unable to resist having her a part of his life. I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve. There was an authenticity to their feelings and doubts. Their romance was steamy with a slow build that felt organic.
I loved this friends-to-lovers story with a touch of witty banter, deep friendships, and plenty of steamy moments. This story is low on angst but has the perfect amount of tension to keep you turning the pages. I knew he wouldn't remain the last single guy of the Crüe for long. He deserved Madelyn and his HEA.
Without giving away any spoilers, I would have liked to see a little retribution towards a few people who caused Madelyn some issues. The extra epilogue was a bonus. I'm looking forward to the surprise coming.
I loved Walker and Mallory in the first book but I honestly feel that Jameson and Madelyn are up their with them as my favourite couple of the series. Lacey Black didn’t disappoint with this pair.
Jameson. He had walls so high that at times it was surprising even his inner circle had scaled them but Madelyn was prepared to try and crumble the fortress he’d built and yeah, she did a great job…. Reading how she got to him and how she affected him so quickly was fun. I really liked that they were so different on the outside but that there was more to their upbringings that made them understand each other on a deeper level.
‘Tank’ was protective, loyal but running scared, for both him and Mads as he honestly didn’t think he was capable of being in a relationship given how he’d grown up. What he couldn’t see, that was right in front of him with the family of choice he had, was that he did relationships well and was capable of caring and loving someone else.
Madelyn - seeing her take control of her own life and deciding that with her family was was where she was meant to be was great. She blossomed in her new home, cared for by family she had only recently got to find out about and making new friends with the Brew Crue ladies. I so wanted her to end up with Jameson but I could have coped if they’d remained friends as long as she was happy…. (ok, I’d have barely coped but…just saying….I liked seeing her happy and learning/settling into who she was)
I loved catching up with the guys and their significant others, seeing how all of their lives were changing. Madelyn’s grandma was fab and I really liked Reagan, her cousin. A couple of side characters I could quite happily have dug a hole for and buried them given how vicious and awful they were but in the grand scheme of things they added to Madelyn’s growth and Jameson’s realisation of what and who he really wanted.
The last book about the original group, I was sad we were ending things with them until…… yeah, there’s gonna be another read in the series and I cannot wait to find out more!!!!
I am a HUGE fan of Lacey Black, all of her books, but I've been particularly in love with her Burgers and Brew Crüe series and I think Wild Side might be my favorite one in the series yet. We finally got to see the gentle giant, Jameson "Tank" Tankersley, the last man standing of the core four Burgers and Brew Crüe find his person. I appreciated that this book wasn't your typical meet, fall in love instantly and get married in a month romance, not that those books aren't great but sometime I like a more realistic romance and this book felt more realistic that they became friends, started dating and by the end of the book had been dating for a while. Jameson "Tank" Tankersley is the last one of his friends still single, and even his younger sister is shacked up with one of his friends. The difference between him and them though is that he never wants to get married or have kids, because of his parents. But then Madelyn "Maddie" Monahan walks into the bar on a blind date with one of his least favorite people, Archer. As soon as he speaks with Maddie he can see what a great person she is, and things that she is far too good for Archer. After running into Maddie several times he can tell that the both of them want something more but he can be friends with Maddie... But the more time they spend as friends the harder it is for Jameson to be just friends... Maddie just moved to Stewart Grove from New York City because she was done with her parents trying to rule her life and she wants to get to know her grandmother, cousin and other family members that her mother never told her about. After a blind date doesn't go well she meets Jameson and she can't help but be attracted to him for so many reasons, the biggest one being that he doesn't know or care about who her parents are, he just likes her for her. And while Jameson just wants to be friends she understands his reasonings and that he doesn't want to be in a relationship, and she appreciates his honesty. But soon their friendship begins to be more than both of them ever anticipated...
Welcome back to Burgers and Brew! This time Jameson “Tank” Tankersley is knocked on his behind by Madelyn Monahan. While they may be opposites in almost every way, Madelyn has a wild side that has been waiting for a man like Jameson to bring out . . . and, let me say, it was super fun watching Jameson get tamed as Mads finds her inner wild side.
Jameson has been adamant that he will never let anyone close enough to have a relationship, and I adored watching Madelyn slip right beneath his radar and break down every wall he has built to protect himself since childhood. He doesn’t understand just how worthy of love he is and how well he takes care of those he cares about, such as his sister and his best friends. And, he really doesn’t get the feelings he has around Madelyn . . . it’s definitely more than friendship even if he won’t admit it!
And, Madelyn . . . while she may not have had the wrong side of the tracks upbringing that Jameson had, she has her own family baggage and is finally living her own life on her own terms. It was lovely watching her blossom as she worked to truly find herself. It’s clear from the start that she and Jameson are meant to be, even if she is terrified to admit she wants more than friendship because she’s terrified she will scare him away for good.
Wild Side was truly fabulous. This couple gave me all the feels from the moment they started their tenuous friendship, to crossing that extremely sexy line of becoming lovers, to finally admitting there was a chance at more. It was awesome to catch up with the rest of the crew as well (dang epilogue had me smiling ear to ear!) Lacey Black drops quite a surprise at the end of this book as well, and all I can say is YEAH!!!!! 5 stars for Jameson, Madelyn and the rest of the Burgers and Brew crew!
Wild Side is the fourth book in the Burgers and Brew Crüe series and Lacey Black delivers an epic read! While this can be read as a standalone, I would say you want to read the first three to get a better picture of who Jameson is before he meets Madelyn. It will make you understand him that much better.
This beautiful story doesn’t have a ton of angst and while I am a huge angsty person, the slow burn combined with the chemistry made it oh so worth it! Jameson and Madelyn are complete polar opposites. Jameson was raised on the “wrong side of the tracks” while Madelyn was raised on the higher end of things, was a debutant, etc. Basically, everything that Jameson is not. But I never once got the sense that she is completely spoiled. She is an independent heroine who does not let her upbringing define her personality.
When she discovers she has another family she didn’t know about, she leaves the high-life family she has behind and finds not only a more loving and accepting family but friends and of course, Jameson. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I couldn’t stop reading because I wanted to know what happened next as quickly as possible.
Everything about this book is perfect. From the chemistry that is undeniable, to the steam, the flirting, all of the emotions, the conclusion… everything was that good and I couldn’t find one thing wrong! Even without all the angst, I am used to, Black hit this one over the wall, 500+ feet, grand slam worthy! This friends to lovers, opposites attract romance novel is one that will not disappoint! Better yet, this whole series is a MUST READ.
I have been craving Jameson's story since we first met him in Kickstart My Heart, book one of the Burgers and Brew Crüe series. He's grumpy, surly, rough around the edges, but has the biggest heart of all the guys, and is the first one to help if needed. In fact, I playfully commented on Kaylee Ryan's Facebook post a week or so ago that I'd fight her for Jameson - and my Facebook account got flagged for inciting violence! See what you caused, Lacey Black? Your perfect book boyfriend almost got me nabbed in Facebook jail.
Seeing Jameson finally get his romantic story in Wild Side was a dream come true. I mean, if he can't be with me, he has to be with someone I guess...and Madelyn is perfect for him - although completely opposite to who I thought Jameson would end up with, which makes it even better. If you are reading this book, I would suggest reading the others in the series first, because that is how you will get all of Jameson in all his growly glory. In each book we see more of him that makes Wild Side even better because of the great prior character development.
The love story in Wild Side is, like the others, sweet and slow burn and swoony - perfect, just like one of Jasper's masterpiece burger creations - so long as it doesn't have onions. I couldn't put this book down and was smiling long after it ended.
I was given a free copy of this book from Give Me Books PR and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
** Wild Side was such a great addition to this fantastic series and I was so tickled to see that another book is coming!
sweet steamy rom - read the series totally worth it!
I am so dang happy right now. I know we get another story in this world, but really the OG Brew Crue found their HEAs. HEAs they never dared to dream or to expect to happen. The ending was so good. I cried and swooned. I knew Jameson had it in him. He just needed the right woman. Madelyn was his perfect match.
Expect to laugh, cry, swoon and fan your face. Jameson and Madelyn’s friends to lovers romance is beautifully written. A real page turner.
I loved watching Jameson and Mads friendship blossom into so much more (aka major sexy times!). Her quiet understanding of Jameson allowed him to trust her and eventually love her.
I freaking love Jameson. This whole time I was like dang this guy is so crotchety and surly, and somehow the coolest dude. He’s observant, caring and loyal. Him thinking he was unlovable just broke my dang heart! I cried when he had his heart to heart with Isaac.
Jameson had a rough childhood, and he survived by taking care of his sister and doing anything he could to keep her fed and safe. His parents suck! Now he avoids relationships so that he never gets left or feels vulnerable again.
Madelyn comes from money and privilege. But her parents don’t love her or see her. She moves to Stewart Grove to be with the family she never knew she had. She is strong, good, beautiful and broken too. She finds her strength in this small town wheee she makes friends with the brew crue and their SO’s.
Book four wrapped up the main crew, and honestly? This one hit just as well as the first. So far, books one and four are my clear favorites. I’m a sucker for a hero who falls hard, and this guy fell. Hard. It was sweet, it was funny, it even made me tear up a couple times—yeah, I felt things.
The emotional moments and humor blended really well, and bless this author for skipping the third-act breakup nonsense. That alone earns bonus points. The characters felt real, even in the middle of a fictional escape, and that human element made it all the more enjoyable.
However—and this is a big however—the internal monologues are still hanging around like a guest who overstayed their welcome. It’s been a consistent issue throughout the series, and while it didn’t ruin the experience, it definitely wore on me. So yes, points earned for emotional payoff… but a few points lost for dragging me through every overthought thought.
And can we talk about that double epilogue? Jumping years into the future? It made the story feel so complete… until I found out there are 10 books in this series. Surprise! I didn’t see that one coming, and while I’ve loved the ride so far, I’m not sure I’m ready to commit to six more books. Especially since book five’s characters didn’t really hook me this time around.
That said, I’ve really enjoyed the series and the author’s writing style. I’ll probably circle back eventually—but for now, I’m giving myself a breather.
