Maddy Mara is the pen name of Melbourne-based creative duo Hilary Rogers and Meredith Badger. Hilary and Meredith have been collaborating on children's books for nearly two decades. Hilary is an author and former publishing director; Meredith is the author of countless books for kids and young adults, and teaches English as a foreign language. Maddy Mara is the melding of their respective daughters' names.

Oh, dear. I sense that these will be formulaic. This one follows almost exactly the same plot-line as the first with the girl-turned-dragon being summoned by the Tree Queen to the magical world, meeting a little magical sidekick creature friend (this one is a dolphin who can fly) and sent to find three magical potion ingredients to help stop the Shadow Sprites from their latest mischief. Her two girl-dragon friends also come on the quest but ultimately it is the titular character who must be brave and save the day. I wouldn't continue reading these for my own pleasure, but I imagine I would have loved them when I was a girl and they have enough adventure to appeal even to my sons who surprised me and asked for the next book in the series.

This was a cute sequel to the first book, and I especially liked that it had a positive message related to believing in yourself and overcoming naysayers/self-doubt. There was more characterization this time around, which I also appreciated. It’s refreshing to read a series where young female protagonists require absolutely no male assistance or outside help (apart from some encouragement from a flying dolphin or their fellow Dragon Girls) to save the day! Furthermore, in this book, a young girl who is shy and does not believe she can be a leader goes on a quest that leads to quite a bit of self-discovery. I definitely recommend this series, and the elementary student who recommended it to me was spot-on when she said the book made her feel good when reading it.

I thought that Willa was a great leader. She the right dragon for the mission. Naomi and Azmina helped by making a cloud to rain down the potion. They worked together to stop the Shadow Queen and her spirits.

I read this book to my daughter. She loved it and felt that she can do anything💕

We read the Spanish version. Her favorite quote was:

The Glitter Dragon girls goes on an adventure underwater to get ingredients for potions to stop the shadow spirits.

I liked the way the dragons all looked different and that they are brave and so dangerous stuff. The story is funny and is enjoyable.

You should read it because you might like it.

MEINE MEINUNG:
Es handelt sich hier um den zweiten Band der Reihe "Die Dragon-Girls".

Ich habe auch dieses Buch gemeinsam mit meinen Kindern gelesen und es hat uns wahnsinnig gut gefallen.

In diesem Buch führt Willa dieses Mal die Freundinnen an. Sie müssen gemeinsam die Baumkönigin retten, da es die lästigen und bösen Schattengeister auf ihre Magie abgesehen haben.

Willa zweifelt ein wenig an ihren Fähigkeiten und daran ob sie es schaffen kann oder nicht. Dank dem wunderbaren Zusammenhalt der Dragon-Girls kann sie ihre Zweifel ablegen.

Die Dragon-Girls geben sich gegenseitig Halt und ermutigen sich auch mal gegenseitig, wenn es mal nicht so einfach ist.

Die Schrift hat eine angenehme Größe und einen schönen Schreibstil, so dass auch junge Leser das Buch gut lesen können.

Zum Vorlesen ist es aber auch sehr gut geeignet.

Die Illustrationen im Buch passen perfekt zum Buch.

Wir freuen uns schon auf den dritten Band.

In dem zweiten Band der DRAGON GIRLS steht die schüchterne Willa im Vordergrund:

Wenn der Wind den Reim zu ihr trägt, weiß Willa, dass die Baumkönigin sie und ihre Freundinnen Naomi und Azmina dringend braucht.
Willa folgt dem Ruf, der sie am Rande des Zauberwaldes in einen wunderschönen silberfarbenen Drachen verwandelt. Dort angekommen stellt sie mit Freuden fest, dass ihre beiden Freundinnen schon auf sie warten. Azmina hat sich bereits in einen wunderschönen Golddrachen verwandelt und Naomis Drachengefiederfarbe ist die eines Regenbogens.
Als die Baumkönigin sich zeigt, wirkt diese ganz müde und erschöpft und erklärt ihnen, dass die Schattenkobolde leider nach ihrer letzten Mission nicht aufgegeben haben und weiterhin alle Farben des Zauberwaldes stehlen. Zur Stunde greifen sie das Wasser an. Der Fluss ist bereits milchig und farblos.
Ein weiteres Mal soll ein Zaubertrank helfen. Die Zutaten des Tranks sind allerdings noch komplizierter zu bekommen als zuvor.
Ob die Dragon Girls ein perfektes Ei von einem Sorgenwasserfallvogel, eine Träne von einem See-Esel und etwas Unsichtbares in der tiefen See finden, müsst ihr allerdings selber herausfinden.

Auch der zweite Band der DRAGON GIRLS konnte mich überzeugen. Diese Geschichte ist fast noch spannender als der Vorgänger. Besonders gut gefiel mir, wie der lieben Willa in dem Buch Mut zugesprochen wurde.
Am 11. Juli 2024 erscheint der dritte Band der Buchreihe und ich bin jetzt schon gespannt darauf, welche Abenteuer die drei DRAGON GIRLS erleben werden.

This definitely reads like a book 2, but book 1 isn't really necessary to understand what's happening, since Willa (or, the third-person omniscient narrator) provides enough exposition regarding the fact that these human girls can travel to another world and become dragon girls!

This volume is mostly about imposter syndrome and overcoming self-doubt, which is a nice lesson for younger readers! (Older readers, too, but fewer of those are reading these books, haha.) The pace is good, although I do wish once in a while that characters who go on a fetch quest sometimes get the clues wrong. I suppose this book is somewhat short for that degree of plot complexity, though.

The art is good, but in a "high school art student" way—for the interior art, I would give a high school student an A, a college student a B or C, and a professional doing this on contract a request to change some of the line weights to give the drawings some depth vs. looking like clip art. (I don't want to go into higher-level critique than that in a written review, though, since it would involve marking up the drawings, and I don't dislike them THAT much to go to that length to complain!)

Recommended for young fans of dragons, especially girls! (and girl dragons!)

Nachdem meiner Tochter und auch mir der erste Teil der Dragon Girls, Azima, der Golddrache sehr gut gefallen hatte, musste wir natürlich auch den zweiten Teil lesen. Mir als erwachsenem Leser ist natürlich direkt aufgefallen, dass die Geschichte schon sehr viele Parallelen zum ersten Teil hat und quasi nach dem gleichen Schema gestrickt ist. Meiner siebenjährigen Tochter fiel es entweder nicht auf oder es war ihr egal und sie hat das Buch am Stück gelesen.
Diesmal steht Willa im Vordergrund, ein schüchternes Dragongirl, was von den Freundinnen Azmina und Naomi unterstützt wird. Die Schattenkobolde sind leider zurück und verwandeln den Fluss in farbloses Wasser und nur ein neuer Zaubertrank kann ihn retten.
Dabei lernen wir mehr vom Zauberwald kennen. Jetzt geht es vor allem um das Element Wasser, was meiner Tochter besonders gefiel!
Die Gestaltung des Buchs ist wunderschön und über die neue Charactercard wurde sich hier besonders gefreut. Der dritte Teil liegt schon bereit und der vierte ist vorbestellt. Eine wirklich tolle Reihe für Leser:innen, die über Erstleserbücher hinaus sind und sich die ganz dicken Bücher aber noch nicht zutrauen.

"Dragon Girls - Willa der Silberdrache" von Maddy Mara ist der zweite Teil der Dragon Girls Reihe. Man kann die Bücher zwar unabhängig voneinander lesen, zum besseren Verständnis macht es aber Sinn mit Teil 1 zu beginnen.
Die Schattenkobolde sind zurück und versuchen diesmal ihren Angriff über das Wasser. Dabei schwächen sie die Baumkönigin sehr, weil ihre Wurzeln tief hinein in das vergiftete Wasser ragen. Auf der Suche nach den Zutaten für einen neuen Zaubertrank wird Willa von starken Selbstzweifeln geplagt. Können die Dragon Girls die Bedrohung abwenden?

Das Buch ist für Kinder ab 7 Jahren geschrieben und meine Tochter kann es sehr gut alleine lesen. Die Schrift ist groß genug und gelegentlich wird der Text durch Zeichnungen aufgelockert. Meine Tochter fand die Geschichte sehr spannend und fieberte richtig mit.

Da im gesamten Buch keine Jungen vorkommen, werden diese wohl keine Freude an der Geschichte haben. Für junge Mädchen sind die Dragon Girls aber eine sehr schöne Reihe. Sie sehen dass man alles schaffen kann, auch wenn man es sich gar nicht zutraut.

Willa loves water just like me. I think it’s so cool how she’s a water dragon. I like the colours of the other dragons more than silver, it’s just not as colourful. It’s so cool how she’s friends with a flying dolphin that actually can fly! I don’t really like the picture of the baby octopus. He just kind of looks weird. I think Dragon Girls is one of my favourite series ever. I can’t wait to read more. I really like it when the sea donkey laughs and I love the picture of the two little sea donkeys. Why would they want to make the sea donkey cry? They should have just thought of making him laugh in the first place. I really like to read this series because they’re so cool with the shadow sprites and the shadow queen. I wonder what she looks like. At first I thought that the shadow sprites looked like people, but they actually just look like little black ghosts, it’s weird. I bet the shadow queen just looks like them but bigger with a black crown. I read this on my kindle so whenever I can I try to see the real colours on the cover. Why does it even have a table of contents when it just says Chapter 1, Chapter 2, and so on! There are only ten chapters in every book!

Band zwei der Dragon Girls Reihe

Jede der drei Freundinnen trägt eine besondere Magie in sich, sie können sich in Drachen verwandeln.
Willa wird ein Silberdrache.
Im ersten Buch retteten die drei Freundinnen in ihrer Gestalt als Glitzerdrachen die Baumkönigin, diesmal wird die Baumkönifin von Schattenkobolden bedroht. Nur ein besonderer Trank kann die Magie retten.


Eine, für mich, sehr gelungene Foetsetzung, ich fand das erste Buch schon schön zu lesen und freute mich als ich die Fortsetzungen entdeckte.
Willa ist sehr schüchtern und traut sich wenig zu, sie hat große Angsr zu versagen. Das gedällt mir sehr, die Mädchen sind keine Draufgängerinnen, sondern ganz normale Mädchen, mit ganz normalen Ängsten. Für das empfohlene Lesealter entsprechend gut zu lesen kurze Kapitel, große Spannung und ein gutes Ende. Hat mir wieder sehr viel Spaß gemacht. Eine tolle Reihe für mutige Kinder und alle die es werden wollen.

Cute follow-up to the first book. This one sees the trio of Glitter Dragons back in the Magic Forest, using their smarts and bravery to go up against the Shadow Sprites. This time, we follow the water-loving Willa as she gains the confidence to clean up the forest's waterways.

As with the first book, there is plenty of adventure and problem-solving. The story is quick paced. I didn't find the writing very engaging personally, but I do think young readers will enjoy the action and magic.

The book includes themes of friendship, facing fears, and helping others. Good for those who enjoy magic and dragons, especially with plenty of glitter and sparkles.

This book was cute and had some nice characters. I liked the way the sprites whispered to Willa and made her doubt herself, and then she overcame it and forged ahead. It was a good illustration of the way that we sabotage ourselves with negative talk, and I hope that the kids that read it get that and it helps them.

I recommend this for kids who are reading chapter books, or even adults (like me) who have been enjoying juvenile fiction as a break from the serious stuff.

My sensitive 5 year old got a little too freaked out by the shadow sprites, so we’ve decided not to read any more of these for now. But she did enjoy parts of it. This book read pretty much the same as the first and other reviews say they continue to be formulaic, but so do many of the other books written for young kids. I just don’t love Mara’s writing style, which is fine. It’s not meant for me. But I do think it’s more fun to read things aimed at kids that are well written.

I';ve known some girls that have transformed into dragons as they got older but this is not a tale of old bats it is fantasy with quests and saving the day etc.
All predictable and with oft used plot lines but somewhat entertaining which just tells its tale and moves on to the next one.

Honestly, if you have a daughter who loves dragons, these are the perfect books to read together. Great messages about friendship, teamwork, and believing in yourself.
I really enjoy discussing these books with my daughter after we've read them... she may be a few ahead of me in the series now. She can't get enough.

Didn't read enough to honestly rate it. Too slow and too repetitive for me. My great-granddaughter likes these; #1 was ok to me, but now this one is just two slow and empty for even when I'm feeling young.

My five older loved that the dragons worked together to make a team. That they can change from a dragon to a person. The song they sing to get to the magic forest and back home.

It was a cute story about believing in yourself and working as a team.

Definitely something for little readers, as the plot structure is following a recurring trend here, but my daughter is really enjoying the stories so far. She thinks each of the Glitter Dragon Girls so far is very dynamic and she’s very excited to read about Naomi in the next story.
