For heartwarming tales of Christian faith and life, don't look any further than the Parables of a Country Parson. After church historian Garth Rosell discovered the inspirational short stories of William Barton, he shared them with his friends and students. The stories were so well received that Rosell teamed up with Stan Flewelling to seek out the rare original volumes and present them in this new collection for today's readers. 192 pages, softcover, Hendrickson.
This is the second time I have read this book. I am grateful to my former professor for editing the book and introducing me to it. I love the way the author demonstrates a meditative, thoughtful life that is ready and willing to learn from the experiences in life, even those that seem small and insignificant. The old language may be a turn off to some people, but I find it charming and comforting as if being welcomed into the loving presence of a grandparent’s living room.
