Truman Grant Madsen was an American professor of religion and philosophy at Brigham Young University (BYU) and director of the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center for Near Eastern Studies. He was a prolific author, a recognized authority on Joseph Smith Jr., and a popular lecturer among Latter-day Saints. At one point, Madsen was an instructor at the LDS Institute of Religion in Berkeley, California.
A powerful book about the power of prayer, ways to strengthen a marriage, and how to better appreciate the atonement, the sabbath day, and the blessings of the temple. This book is so beautifully written that it can be read over and over again. It is truly a masterpiece.
This is a compilation of talks by Truman Madsen. Some were just okay, but most were amazing. I especially enjoyed the chapters on "the intimate touch of prayer" and " the awesome power of married love".
I really like Madsen's literary voice. It feels like he's sitting down with you and having a conversation about religious insights and deeper meanings of the gospel. It was uplifting and thought provoking without out being dry and boring.
Some of the chapters were just good. Other chapters were earth moving for me. They helped me to really understand about forgiveness, the importance of family history work, and the importance of the temple. I learned a lot.
