The House on Dagger Point

Rate this book
Jedes Haus hat eine Geschichte. Jeder Mensch hat ein Geheimnis. Jede Wendung der Ereignisse führt in Gefahr.

Manche Vermächtnisse lässt man besser unbeansprucht . . .

The House on Dagger Point—eigene Geheimnisse birgt.

Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush
When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.

This was a really good mystery! It definitely kept me guessing and wondering at who the culprit(s) would be and how everything connected. Enjoyed this one!

"She'd known the weather would be bad, but she'd felt compelled to come. To get away. To hide."

Nothing had gone right. Olivia Beaumont's plan to visit her father's clandestine property on Dagger Point was riddled with surprises . . . . and not the happy birthday kind. A bad storm. A damaged bridge, which meant Olivia couldn't leave Kiawah Island even if she wanted to. And she might have wanted to after finding a dead body in the outdoor shower, a stranger arriving with a rental agreement in hand, a realtor who couldn't answer any questions effectively. . . . intimidating text messages that kept on landing in her inbox.

Something strange was going on . . . the real question . . . . was Anderson Scott someone she could trust? Olivia desperately needed someone to trust. . . . and it seemed that the handsome firefighter was more than willing to stand by her side.

"I don't see any weaknesses. . . . . I see wood that's been burned by a fire. . . . Sometimes, when wood has been burned, it causes its fibers to draw closer together. It ultimately makes it stronger . . . The fires can be like the trials in our lives. What was meant to tear us apart can actually strengthen us."

A really good story . . . the twists and turns were cleverly disguised and the characters' journey to wholeness was a team effort . . . one that they planned to continue . . when there was no danger to contend with on Dagger Point.

Stayed up late to finish this. I was kinda skimming it by the end. Personally, out of all three books, I think the second one was a little more developed. This one needed about two more drafts; I also found an editing error. There's also more telling than showing, and it's lacking in the depth department. The plot, as with the other two, are good ideas; they just needed more fleshing out, more depth, more balance between tell and show.

I didn't agree with some of the word choices for this quote: “I hate to say it, but there’s probably a little bit of that rebellion in all of us—a little bit of the desire for forbidden fruit. It goes all the way back to Adam and Eve.”

'Probably' should be replaced with 'definitely' and 'a little bit of that' and 'a little bit of the' should be completely removed to read "there's rebellion in all of us.-desire for forbidden fruit."

Why? Because there *is* rebellion in *all* of us humans and it *isn't* a little bit. (Romans 3:10-12, 3:23, among thousands of other verses confirming the depravity of mankind)

****

Anyway...the concept is good, it just needed more polishing.

I opened this book by accident. I read a similar blurb and thought this was the book. So yeah it was not what I thought. I've read another book of this author and I've similar opinions. It felt juvenile. The motives, actions, endings. I'm not Christian. Maybe I should not read these books but I didn't know theres a whole genre for these books. I like mystery, suspense, thriller with a dash of romance. And it's not an easy blend to find. So I try to read whenever I find it.

Excellent story. Perfect atmosphere, just enough detail, and good solid characters. Plus a mystery that had me guessing until the final reveal.

The mystery aspect grabs you from the beginning and keeps you wondering until the end. It's a fast-paced read and solid storyline. I only did 4 stars, though, because the romance wasn't well-developed and it almost seemed like an afterthought.

The House on Dagger Point by Christy Barritt is cozy mystery with just enough mystery elements to keep the reader guessing, but enough romance to keep the fans of romance happy. The plot moved quickly, and the bad guy was easy for me to pick up on, but the mystery had plenty of high octane moments of surprise as the heroine and hero needed to discover what was happening and who was doing these things and why. If readers have read any of Barritt’s previous novels, then this should be right up your alley. Mystery. Romance. And a house with a past to it. This novel could be read as a stand alone novel, but there is technically two other novels in this series, but they do not feature the same characters, so it can be read and understood by itself.

I received a complimentary copy of The House On Dagger Point by Christy Barritt from Christy Barritt, but the opinions stated are all my own.

SO. VERY. GOOD!

One of the things I love about Christy Barritt books is how she comes up with different and creative storylines. This one is no expectation. The action began in the opening pages with a dead body hanging in the shower. And the action kept going until the final pages.

Olivia not only had to deal with a dead body but the truth of her father's secret life. To complicate matters Anderson Scott had rented the house she just learned she owned.

The action was almost non-stop and watching the chemistry between Olivia and Anderson was fun as well.

Although this is a book 3 in the Beach House Mystery series it is stand alone from the others.

Not her usual standard

I love Christ Barritt’s writing. Maybe a bit formulaic but it works. Unfortunately though the writing in this one was lacking and not convincing most of the time. I’ve been feeling that with some of her other recent books but this one was the worst. I kind of trudged through reading it. Maybe she wrote it too quickly…? She has put out so many good books. I did give it three stars and only kept reading it though because the plot was engaging enough even if some of the dialogue and writing seemed forced and unnatural. Hopefully she doesn’t sacrifice quality for quantity going forward. I love your books Christy! I’m happy to get them less often for your usual quality. Thank you for all the endless hours of a perfect mix of clean romance and suspense!

I had a BETA copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Olivia Beaumont’s famous father led a secret life. After his death, she went to check out the beach house he owned. Firefighter Anderson arrived to rent the house at the same time she arrived. When they find a dead body under the house, and the bridge off the island closed, and no vacant rentals, they must work together. Tragedies seem to follow them, and someone is texting her threatening messages. The plot features local police who are inexperienced, secrets, suspense, and a budding relationship. Christy Barritt has written another great read with this book.

The House on Dagger Point by Christy Barritt is a fantastic mystery. Olivia come to Dagger Point to solve mysteries from her father’s past and heal her own heart. Anderson comes there for his own reasons. The mystery in this book is well written and will keep you guessing throughout. But what I loved most about this book is the struggles of the characters and the messages throughout this book. I cannot recommend this book enough. I have read nearly everything this author has written, and I don’t know how it is possible, but her books just keep getting better. I received a digital copy of this book from the author with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

What secrets does the old house hold? It’s shady history has opened the door to murders. Olivia Beaumont goes to Kiawah Island to check on the property her father left behind and finds much more than she bargained for. Anderson Scott also wants to explore the house, which was originally in his family. Now the two are thrown together to figure out what’s going on and they must struggle to survive. Packed with danger and suspense, this exciting novel will keep the pages flipping faster than the incoming waves. It is a stand-alone story. I received a copy from the author. All opinions are my own.

Olivia needs a little peace in her life, so she decides to escape the scandal her father sparked in the newspapers before his death by going to spend some time sorting through things in his secret beach house. Except…someone most definitely wants her to keep her nose out of the beach house! And the good-looking firefighter who shows up claiming to have rented the house is either a slick deceiver or her only hope to solve the crimes and stay alive.

Kinda has elements of a locked-room mystery as a tropical storm has the island bridge closed and no one can come or go from the mainland for a few days. They’re trapped in a small town as the bodies pile up…

This was a really entertaining mystery. It didn't take long before I was completely hooked. There was a lot of intrigue and so many questions swirling around. What was really going on at the beach house? Who was threatening Olivia? What secrets had her father been keeping? How was it all connected?

This book definitely kept me on my toes. I didn't figure anything out before the big reveal. I love being surprised like that. Even though this is book three, it's a complete standalone with no connection to the previous books in the series.

The House on Dagger Point is a fun romantic suspense. Strangers Olivia and Anderson both end up at Kiawah Island trying to get away and escape their respective pasts. Due to a series of errors, they both end up having to stay at the same house right as a major storm comes in and transportation is closed off the island. Multiple dead bodies are discovered and scandals just seem to be surrounding the house. Are Olivia and Anderson's lives in danger? Will they be able to solve the mysteries around the house?

Both Olivia and Anderson at the House on Dagger Point on a stormy night and encounter a dead body. Both have ties to the house, both needed to get away and destress after momentous events disrupted their lives. Stormy night, dead bodies (yes, plural), stranded on the island because the bridge was out, suspicious of each other, threatening texts -- all add up to a mystery that I couldn't put down!

I received a free copy of this book. The opinions are entirely my own.

Olivia’s heart was broken

Because of every thing her father had done. He had lived a double life. She didn’t even know this millions of dollar home existed until after his death. She wanted to find some peace for her mother, brother, and herself but she found dead bodies, text after text and then she met Anderson. Ok you can’t put it down. Read ASAP. Can’t wait for the next one.

Murder and romance

The story opens on a dark and stormy night --without saying the words --and introduces characters Olivia and Anderson. Two women are murdered within eyesight of the house on Dagger Point, within the first chapters. Mystery surrounds the house and danger lurks around every corner. Christy Barritt does not disappoint. This is apparently the end of this series but maybe she will change her mind and write about another mystery house.

Here's a great addition to the Beach House Mysteries. Although it is part of a series, Dagger Point functions well as a stand-alone. The suspense and inspirational content are strong and sweep readers into the Kiawah Island community and series of unexplained events. The conclusion is somewhat unexpected satisfying.

I received a complimentary copy of the book without obligation. This review is my opinion.

Hold On Tight

The House on Dagger Point it a multilayered mystery with twists at every turn. Olivia and Anderson are both on the island to escape their lives for a time, but get thrown together unexpectedly. Finding themselves deep in dangerous, threatening circumstances, they work together to answer questions and survive. In the process, healing begins, but is the future to be snatched from them before is has a chance to start? Good read!

This was a terrific story.

My only problem with it was the numerous references to grown women who chose to have an affair with a married pastor as victims. Yes, he may have abused his position to manipulate them, but they were adults.

Otherwise, this book was a great. It was filled with action, suspense, and romantic tension.

The House on Dagger Point is a must read. It is filled with wonderful characters and constant action. The two main characters, Olivia and Anderson, each have pasts that intertwine throughout the story. The story moves quickly, with constant excitement. I love the unsuspected ending. I highly recommend this page turner!

I definitely didn’t see that coming. People do not belong on pedestals! A wise friend once told me, don’t believe 100% of anyone’s opinion, take everything back to the Word of God.

The house holds many secrets

She is trying to solve her secrets, he is trying to find his bearings, both in the same house. Christy fooled me again, was not what I expected! I enjoy this series.

Loved this! It was an incredible story of betrayal, deceit, secrets and a history of suspicion. The story alone behind the area was interesting. The suspense behind the murders kept me intrigued. I love everything by this author!

Nice book with a rather good plot. I liked the main characters and their honesty with each other. I did keep thinking that the father would be proved to have been set up.

Suspense at it's best

There are houses that hold secrets and Christy Barritt spins a tale about a house with many of them. Some will kill to keep those secrets hidden. It's a page turner from cover to cover. Highly recommend.
