What life is there when you're reduced to missing pieces and leftover parts?Elle has been the very definition of trophy wife. Unfortunately, this means her husband doesn't have much of a care for her and verbally abuses her. She's about had it and so she leaves him, ready to start a brand new life. Right when she's about to start fresh, she meets a man who desires her, making her feel worth she had lost. Little did she know he was the very well-known Dr. Landon Fritz, a man who's completely closed off, grumpy, and his only focus is his daughter.
The quiet one. The grump. The heartsick man who never found his way back after losing his wife.I loved the pace that the author took with this story. It wasn't rushed, it wasn't slow; it was just right in order to delve into both Landon's and Elle's backgrounds in a way that had me falling little by little with the characters and the story.
With her, I was someone I haven't been in a very long time. Someone I thought died along with my wife.I felt for Landon and his grief over his wife. He believes he's the reason she died, and because of it, he's very secluded and only lets in his family. When Elle pops up, he's ready to only have one night with her and that's it. He definitely wasn't counting on how wonderful Elle would be, the fact that she'd be his daughter's teacher, and his neighbor; she's everywhere.
"I want to deserve her," I whisper to overly fragrant, cool air. "She's not you—she'll never be you—but could she be the next best thing for our girl?"I adored Stella (Landon's daughter) and Elle's friendship. They took a major liking to each other, and they have similar interests. Getting to see Stella interact with Ella were some of my favorite parts, especially when it came to Ella teaching Stella how to cook. It was such a great time for these two to bond and get to know each other more.
