Legacy of a Frozen Scream

Rate this book
On a cold October morning, Pastor David Lee Brady hears a scream and discovers a dying young man in the snow. Rumors run wild in a small town, with whispers echoing in the breeze. The sleepy village of Baunsee has its first ever murder investigation and Dave is caught up in the middle.
In Pastor Dave's attempt to find out what happened to the young man, the work of the would-be detective quickly involves Misty, a troubled teenage girl, who is a member of the pastor's congregation. Street-wise, tough-minded, and in-your-face bold, Misty's intent to solve the crime all by herself leads her to the dark shadows of the past. Will this young lady's efforts help or hinder the pastor in his efforts? Can Dave help protect those who are in need of justice and healing, just as he has been called to do in his ministry? Legacy of a Frozen Scream is a story about discovery, transformation, and looking inward to find strength and the truth.

Daniel D. Doty introduces this piece of literature as a mystery novel. However, it is equal parts
an account of an episode in a loving Pastor's work with his parishioners. Set in a small town in
rural Illinois, Legacy of a Frozen Scream tells of Pastor Dave's discovery of an injured young
man. When the man dies of his injury, Pastor Dave counsels and comforts members of his
community, all the while pondering the odd nature of the young man's death.
Doty's meticulous attention to detail is reminiscent of that which is often found in the reading of
a play script or screenplay. I have spent my entire life in Illinois, and I could easily identify with
the landscape and many of the characters. Although there were a few peripheral characters that
either could have been omitted or further developed, this calming narrative provided an
entertaining and gentle read. The postscript discusses the author's inspiration for writing this
novel, and it is a lovely tribute to dedicated teachers everywhere.

3.5 stars! Many parts were interesting, and I loved that it was set in Illinois, so it had a lot of familiar places and descriptions of things were easy for me to visualize because of that. I liked the overall story, but it didn't capture my full attention at times.
