Featuring characters from Pamela Clare’s acclaimed I-Team series.

She barely survived.
Sasha Dillon, a five-time world champion climber, moved to Scarlet Springs to join the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. She loves the tiny mountain town and its quirky residents and finds happiness using her climbing skills to save lives. But her sense of safety is shattered when two unknown attackers in an SUV run her down, destroying her shot at her sixth world championship title. As the town rallies around her and she begins to heal, the sheriff brings in a big-city detective with experience handling celebrity stalkers. As unemotional and cold as he is good-looking, Darius Silva both irritates her and tempts her, tying her in knots. She doesn’t know whether to tell him off—or kiss him.

He’s done with celebrities.
Darius knows firsthand what happens when cops arrest the wrong person. He’ll carry those scars forever. That’s why he’s always careful to remain detached on the job and why he never, ever bends the rules. The last thing he wants is another case involving a demanding, self-centered celebrity. But Sasha makes her mark on him the first time he looks into her beautiful blue eyes. Down-to-earth, genuine, and full of life, she’s nothing like the shallow stars he’s known. Something about her gets under his skin, threatening to unravel his self-control and undermine his focus. And the only way to catch the men who hurt her and get back to his life in the city is to keep his mind—and his hands—off her and on the job.

To claim their future, they must face his past.
As they come closer to exposing her hidden foe, their desire for one another explodes, and Sasha learns that his cold exterior masks deep passion—and terrible pain. Now she will do all she can to heal his jaded heart and show him that the life—and love—he’s secretly longing for is here with her in Scarlet Springs.

the setup…
Sasha Dillon is a phenom in the professional climbing world. One of the youngest, she’s the reigning world champion, the youngest, and has been for the past five years. She lives in Scarlet Springs and is a member of the infamous Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team. She’s training for the upcoming world championship and is biking to one of her favorite climbing spots when an SUV passes by, spewing obscenities and later deliberately striking her, forcing Sasha over the embankment into a tree. She’s severely injured but is able to call for rescue. Denver Detective Darius Silva is asked to help investigate the hit and run. He’s a transplant from Los Angeles where he specialized in celebrity cases. Darius has to determine whether Sasha has a stalker or if this was just a random event. He’s not crazy about the assignment as his experience with celebrities doesn’t bring back fond memories.

the heart of the story…
Though Sasha is injured badly enough for her to miss the championship, she will recover and be able to climb again. While she’s recovering, the community rallies behind her, taking turns in providing all the care and nurturing she needs. Darius is a bit jaded when he comes to the small town that quickly embraces him, surprised that Scarlet Springs isn’t at all like the stereotypical image he’d prepared for. It’s clear from their first meeting that there’s something different and special happening between Darius and Sasha but he’s resistant because anything else would be unprofessional. He also has a dark past that he left behind years ago and it’s clearly shaped him. But Sasha’s different, a woman with a big heart and kind nature who breaks through Darius’ shields. Meanwhile, he’s also making serious headway with the investigation, getting closer to uncovering the truth.

the bottom line…
Sasha has been part of this series almost from the beginning and I’ve looked forward to seeing her as happy as what she’s brought to the community and the Team. She’s a fan favorite in the climbing community not only because of her skills but her giving spirit. While I loved her developing relationship with Darius and seeing him finally open up and accept the Scarlet Springs community, I was most intrigued by the investigation. I had early suspicions about that accident and my instincts were on target, though it was more than I’d fleshed out. I love this series because of the strong sense of community and service embodied by the residents. It resonated even more in this story as the town not only rallied around Sasha but thawed Darius’s damaged heart, giving him back what was taken from him as a teen. Maybe the ending was a little predictable but it was one I really wanted and loved.

I love Pamela Clare and I really like this series, especially when she uses characters from her I-Team Series. We get to see Darcangelo and Hunter in action in this one. The Colorado High Country Series is 90% Romance and 10% Mystery. It is great if you like Romance with a touch of mystery. Me, I prefer more mystery/suspense in my reads. "Bound to Fall" is a sweet tale about a woman everyone loves, but who hasn't found anyone to love just her and a man who had his life upended at 19 years old and shut down his emotions until he finds his one true love. It's a great story.

Sasha Dillon is one-week away from competing for a record 6th world championship in rock climbing when on a training bike ride, she is run off the road and nearly killed. Her injuries take her out of the competition. The small town of Scarlet Springs, CO come to her assistance, enveloping her and showing her what a true community is. She chose Scarlet Springs for this very sense of community and to use her talents with the Rocky Mountain Search & Rescue Team who have become her family. Her attack was no accident and that has everyone concerned.

Detective Darius Silva has lots of experience with celebrities and their stalkers. He spent a lot of years in Los Angeles and now prefers to call Denver home. When he is asked to take on the case of Scarlet Springs celebrity, he is not looking forward to a sport Prima Dona in a dinky town and wants to be done with the case as soon as possible. But both Sasha and Scarlet Springs are a major shock for him.

Past experience has taught Darius to be very careful in his investigations and he plans to be just as through in this case. His instant attraction to Sasha has him breaking some of his hard and fast rules. Breaking down his barriers is something Sasha and the town are doing without even knowing. But, keeping Sasha safe and finding the baddies is what Darius is determined to do. Falling in love and finding a home, well, that is the bonus.

Bound to Fall is book 10 of the Colorado High Country series by Pamela Clare. It’s a standalone contemporary romance. Dual POV with a happy ending.

Tropes:
➵sports romance
➵small town
➵bodyguard/police officer hero

After the world’s foremost female climber is attacked and almost killed, the small town of Scarlet Springs rallies around, not only to help her get back on her feet but also to help the big-city detective who’s come to investigate who would try to kill the climbing community’s darling.

Sasha Dillion is not like most celebrities Detective Darius Silva has dealt with while working in LA. She has fame and fortune, yes. But she’s also down to earth, caring and an overall sweetheart, loved by many.

She lives moderately in her small community and while she’s not training she volunteers in the Rocky Mountains Search and Rescue Team. Which is something Darius finds hard to believe until he gets to know her.

Because of his harrowing past, Darius knows the importance of following rules and sticking to the facts. It’s why he’s so good at his job. But things are a bit more relaxed in Scarlet Springs, and soon he finds himself not only falling for Sasha, but also for the town that welcomed him with open arms.

Pamela Clare is a staple in my reading list because she writes the kind of books I want to devour in a sigle sitting. In the case of this series, they’re romances with a great blend of action, suspense, charming characters and sizzling hot attraction.

This is the latest book in the Colorado High Country Series. As always, it’s a fascinating read from Ms. Clare.

Sasha Dillon is a World Class Champion climber, training to defend her title in Slovakia in a few weeks. She is taking a mountain bike ride, when a truck deliberately runs her off the road, and she lands against a tree. She is severely injured, but knows she must get help, and is able to use her phone to call the Rocky Mountain Rescue unit, of which she is a valued member. She is rescued and sent to the hospital.

Detective Darius Silva works for Denver PD and is on assignment to work with Scarlet Springs police investigating the hit and run of Sasha. He is originally from L.A. and Scarlet Springs is like another planet. All our favorite characters are featured, and the interaction with Darius and the towns people is very amusing. He is known as a pit bull when doing investigations, and this case is intriguing. Why would anyone want to harm a young athlete?

As always, the story starts out with a bang, and then it’s hold on for dear life for the rest of the story. A slow burn romance, lots of twists and turns and my favorite, interaction with a couple I-Team characters. My all time favorite, Julian Darcangelo. I never would have guessed who the “bad guy” was, so it was a surprise ending.
If you like small town romance, adventure and mysteries, grab this book!

World champion climber Sasha Dillon was supposed to go defend her title in Slovakia next week but her life suddenly takes on a different and dangerous turn when she's hit by a car while on a bicycle ride. It's not an accident. Two men ran her down. Badly injured, Sasha is forced to abandoned her presence at the championship and will stay in Scarlet Springs. At least she can count on her friends from the Rocky Moutain Search & Rescue Team and the sense of community in town to take care of things while she recover and be there for her. And the cute but oh so serious detective investigating her case is not a bad distraction either.

Detective Darius Silva is asked to go investigate a hit-in-run in Scarlet Springs. He's not happy he's going to have to deal with a celebrity again. Been there, done that, hated it and thought this part of his life was behind him. Not a fan of small town either and wondering where his boss send him, Darius is still a professional and take his job very seriously. Clues about Ms. Dillon's assailants lead to someone that Darius's gut tell him is not the culprit. And the detective knows only too well what it feels to be accused of a crime you didn't commit. Working with Deputy Julia Marcs, it doesn't take long before Darius start to realize the power and the beauty of a small town when people are nice with each other. And the biggest surprise for him is how nice and unselfish Sasha is. It's not long either before he become attracted to her big smile and bigger heart.

Darius is a stickler for the rules but that doesn't make him a stuffed shirt nor a rigid man. I loved his integrity and it was so great to see him open up to people when he feels comfortable with them. His chemistry with Sasha felt natural and evolved in a believable way, even if they haven't known each other for long. It's always a pleasure to see again my book boyfriend Darcangelo and his buddy Marc (they don't have a big part though). I guessed the vilain as soon as the person talked but the fun for me is reading about the MC falling in love and the interactions with the townfolks anyway and it was still interesting to see all the clues and steps that lead Darius and Julia to discover the truth and close the investigation.

3.0 stars. Hmm, this story didn't work for me and was a bit of a let down. Especially after the high that was Megs/Mitch's story (book 9). Definitely not as much action this time, the 2 main characters Sasha/Darius were meh, just ok, but the love scenes were a serious stretch of the imagination.

Sasha has broken ribs, a broken wrist and a concussion. She's just out of the hospital after an attempt on her life. She and detective Darius have sex after she's home a few days. SERIOUSLY?!? I've only had bruised ribs and mentally and verbally cussed a blue streak every time I got up and sat down in a chair or breathed deep for 3 weeks. She's just been out of the hospital for a few days. Who the hell feels like rolling around in the sheets??! Uh, uh, no freaking way. I suppose in romance fantasy land there's no time alloted for taking a break when you feel like crap and need some recovery. Eye roll.

Then Darius gets shot twice in his bullet proof vest. Bullets cracked the plates. Huge ouch! He takes a side trip to ER. What does he do immediately after that? Yep, goes straight to Sasha's place and they have more sex. 🤯
Mind b-l-o-w-n, no freaking way.

I'm in the minority for enjoyment of this story, but I'm hopeful this author will WOW me next time.

Darling Of The Climbing World Meets “Ethical To A Fault” Detective

Pamela Clare is an author who has the unique talent to put into words scenarios and subject matters that leave readers enriched and enlightened. THAT is why I SO love to read ALL of her books/series. This book is no exception. The characters of small town Scarlet Springs have graced the pages of Ms. Clare’s stories from Book One to the present Book Ten of this series. Wholesome Sasha, world class competitive climber, becomes the targeted victim of a hit and run, just prior to a major competition. Who is responsible and why becomes the focused storyline of this installment. Meet Detective Darius assigned to investigating and hopefully solving this criminal act, and the story unfolds.

Sasha can best be described as a loving, trusting, talented, and caring young woman deeply loved and respected by the people of Scarlet Springs and beyond. We learn about the downside of fame in today’s society as a result of hurtful, trashy social media posts. We also are reminded of the painful fact that not everyone can be trusted. Darius, as a result of a tragic course of events in his late teens, has become a truly reputable detective using the gut wrenching experience to benefit crime investigation. He learned the valuable lesson to “follow the evidence and see different possibilities.” Objectivity is key. A thought provoking passage in this story that is relevant in today’s society is as follows. “What happened to innocent until proven guilty?” “It died with the advent of social media.”

The attraction between Sasha and Darius and the developing relationship is satisfying to us romance junkies. There is also a humorous scenario when Sasha describes ways to make love and not compromise the healing of her injuries. Too funny!

I loved this story, all the towns people, and the cameo appearance of Hunter and Darcangelo, and their comical bromance. Chicken soup for the soul, indeed! If there was one negative comment to iterate about the storyline, I missed the adrenaline rush and “oh wow” moments experienced in many of her books. It was a predictable story without the angst that is almost expected of Ms. Clare in many of her books. That being said, if you are a fan of this author and the series, read this book.

Going back to Scarlet Springs (Nederland for those of us in CO) is always a welcome trip. I love all the characters from the Colorado High Country Series. Pamela Clare manages to keep it fresh for each book. This is Sasha and newcomer, police officer Darius's story. Bound is a fast paced story, with surprises coming right at you in the first pages. I loved both characters alone and together and rooted for them the entire way. Sasha and Darius made each other better people - what more could you want in a romance?
It is always great to revisit the "old" cast and see a few of the folks from the I-Team (set in Denver) series too - I'm looking at you Darcangelo!

Pamela does it again

Pamela Clarke delivers in the much anticipated "Bound to Fall." Anyone who is a fan of Scarlet Springs and the Colorado High Country books wanted to read Sasha's story. This book has it all suspense, attraction and a sweet connection between Sasha and Darius. I feel sad though, as those book says goodbye to Scarlet Springs. It is a fitting final take on the eclectic mountain town.

I really love this series. This entry is one of the weaker ones, but still satisfying. Adding a little mystery drives the story and the characters. A little more internal angst than usual. The mystery is fair, with a nice twist at the end. Some insight into international sports and laws added flavor.

There are hints that this may be the last book in the series, at least for a while. If true, I will miss this little town in the mountains.

I really like Sasha so I was excited to see her find her HEA. I really hated how this one started, hated that Sasha was hurt. I reserved judgement on Darius at first, he came off a bit cold/standoffish, but I wondered if that was due to his job. I did like that the two of them were smitten with each other right from the first meeting.

While investigating, Darius had a lot to learn about Sasha's sport and the town. You could tell he was a bit skeptical of both, but both won him over. I liked how the relationship changed and the chance that both took. They each shared secrets that seemed to bond them together.

I was so disappointed in who the bad guy was and why. It was such a petty reason and they deserved everything they got.

The ending to this one was great! Loved what Sasha accomplished, loved Darius's new job and loved that the two of them were building a life together.

This was alright, but Clares writing feels more like routine than imaginative writing. I was very bored at the ending which stretched for far too long, I didn't bother reading the epilogue as I felt the book could've ended with the last chapter as the epilogue, or maybe several chapters before that.
I didn't really feel connected to the characters and I miss the excitement I felt from reading her historicals and the I-team series. I doubt I'll read any future works of hers except for Joseph's, this just wasn't satisfactory in the least.
It wasn't outright bad, which is why I gave it 3 stars, but I've read many far better books by Clare and it saddens me that she has declined in her ability to write, I've felt similarly about many of the other books in this series, and I'm surprised I read so many of them. I guess I can credit that to the series (mentioned before) that I really enjoyed.

Bound to Fall, Colorado High Country, Book 10, Pamela Clare

Returning to Scarlett Springs is always a pleasure and followers of the series have waited patiently for Sasha Dillon’s story. Sasha is a champion climber who is looking forward to defending her world championship. Her hopes are dashed when she and her bike are run off the road and she receives injuries that will prevent her from competing. Enter our hero, Detective Darius Silva who, very much against his will, finds himself in the tiny community of Scarlet Springs to help local law enforcement track down Sasha’s attackers.

Darius is a big-city boy who for years had worked on a Threat Assessment Unit with high-flyers he saw as obsessed with themselves and only themselves. He was not enamoured at having to once again work with a celebrity, and particularly not in tiny Scarlet Springs. His introduction to the town and his initial reaction to its inhabitants does little to change his mind, not at all surprising when considering the first locals he sees!

And so the stage is set for Darius and Sasha to meet. Ms. Clare does a first-class job of mixing suspense with a heart-touching love story. As we have come to expect from Ms. Clare, Bound to Fall not only entertains, but educates, engages all the emotions, and pays meticulous attention to detail. We meet many of our favourite Scarlet Springs characters as well as a scattering of favourites from Ms. Clare’s I-Team series.

As always, the wonderful community of Scarlet Springs comes together whenever and wherever help is needed. That the quirky inhabitants of Scarlet slowly work their magic on Darius does not come as a surprise. It’s what they do!

If you love contemporary romance and are looking for a great series written by an author whose historical and romantic suspense series have already proven her worth, give this one a try.

Disclaimer: I am extremely biased when reviewing this author, as I would be willing to read anything she wrote - even if it was on a paper napkin.

I really enjoyed this story. I quickly came to like world class champion climber, Sasha Dillon, and DPD Detective, Darius Silva. Their romantic relationship felt organic while slowly building at a natural pace. The spicy steam that happens between them didn’t hurt either. As always, it’s a pleasant bonus when certain friends from previous books make an appearance, such as Marc Hunter and Julian Darcangelo, law enforcement heroes from the ‘I-Team’ series who show up in this novel.

This book is indeed a romantic suspense with Darius and his team attempting to solve who tried to murder Sasha. However, the story felt anticlimactic due to the lack of an unexpected twist usually contained within the last few chapters of the suspenseful stories that this author is known for. The story’s climax seems to occur after two-thirds of the way through with the last chunk devoted to the hero and heroine’s relationship BUT, if anything, I felt this was a benefit to Sasha and Darius working through any complexities of their blossoming relationship. It was sad to learn what happened to Darius’ previous girlfriend, of which he briefly mentions in passing during an earlier conversation with Sasha, but I wasn’t at all prepared for what he divulges in detail within Chapter 17.

By the end of the epilogue I still felt a sense of satisfaction - just without the usual ‘punch’ of suspenseful action I’m used to in these series. All I know is, at the end of the day, I’ve just read another well written romance novel by this author.

Two words.

A Winner by Pamela Clare

Competitive climber, Sasha Dillon, is almost killed when she is driven off her mountain road while bike riding. Detective Darius Silva Is on loan from the Denver police department and he is in town to figure out who tried to kill Sasha. The pair have an instant connection & a sexy one, too.

Now, if this were romantic suspense the focus of the story would be on the danger and the intrigue. But it's not a romantic suspense this is a contemporary romance and the focus is on the impact that meeting Sasha and all the other quirky people who live in Scarlett Springs has on Darius. He's been pretty closed off from people, as we learn because of a personal tragedy, Sasha is able to reach an emotional part of him that nobody else has.

This is a sexy romance with an insta love feel to it. It helps if you've had some prior Introduction to Scarlet Springs. Darius is a solid, decent guy but a little wary of making such a quick connection with Sasha (who is an all-American ray of sunshine). And of course we know Sasha from earlier books in the series. The pair really heat up the room!

I also hear this is the final book in the Colorado High Country series and I'll be sad to not have any more. Cameo appearances by bickering besties Julian Darcangelo and Mark Hunter are terrific. I loved it when Chief Irving brought the pair in to give Darius a reality check on the consequences of getting involved with the victim of the crime you're investigating. (or committing, as in Hunter's case 😄.)

Thanks, Pamela, for an entertaining read.

Sasha Dillon is an extremely talented woman, a World Class Champion climber, in a sport dominated by competitiveness and sexism. She's fresh, honest and one of the best heroines I've read about. She suffers a horrible accident and needs help. Darius is a detective helping her. He has a traumatic past that shaped who he is, but also made him very good at his job. I really liked him, his steadfastness and honesty, his sense of responsibility and in many ways Sasha helped him without being his "saviour" and vice-versa. It's like in different ways they took out the best of each other.

As usual Scarlet Springs (the small town where this story, and every other novel in this series takes place) makes me smile, the sense of community, every single character I've read on this series coming back and just being amazing.

This novel is excellent, like anything written by Pamela Clare (she literally never disappoints, and I've read 95% of her work). I couldn't recommend this author, this series and also the I-team series (one of my all time favs, and a series I re-read at least once a year) more.

World champion climber Sascha Dillion never expected someone would hate her so much they would try to kill her. Her world is shattered when she is run off the road while on a bike ride. To help protect her, and discover just who was driving the car that ran into her, local law enforcement calls in Denver police detective Darius Silva whose experience catching celebrity stalkers makes him perfect from the job. He's cold and closed off, but Sascha isn't anything like the celebrities he's worked with back in L.A. As gets to know Sascha and the people of Scarlett Springs, his closed off attitude disappears and he finds himself growing closer to her and to the small, usually quiet town she calls home.
I love the quiet, sometimes quirky town of Scarlett Springs and the people who live there and am always happy to return for a visit. The twists and turns of the story lead to a surprising and unexpected answer to just who the culprit was. Though the story can be read on its own, reading the previous Scarlett Springs novel will bring a richer experience as you come to know the characters. I always enjoy the visits from the I-Team characters as well.

Maybe it’s my mistake of treating this as a standalone when it’s clearly connected to the previous books in the series. The vivid small town setting was my favorite part.

I wish Sasha had a bit more shadows in her sunshine character - it would have made more her interesting. Saints are all well and good, but not the best character types for romance. Darius’s dislike for the celebrities he served had the whiff of misogyny. Also, if he hated protecting celebrities so much, why did he persist? Especially when he experienced only the bad parts of being in the limelight.

I also found the resolution of the mystery underwhelming - it happened mainly off page. We didn’t even get a confrontation with the person behind Sasha’s attack.

Clare is a lot more capable that what this book ultimately provided.

A lovely read

I have read the whole series so know all the characters well by now, meaning that I not only meet a cool new couple, but check in with some old favorites as well. Loved the book, love that Darius and Sasha are both so real. The story line is also realistic. I have never climbed, nor have I been to Colorado, but this series have opened a world that I hope to one day see.

Pamela Clare does it again

Open this book and step back into Scarlet Springs and the beautiful state of Colorado. If you've read the other Colorado High Country books, its like going home. There is laughter, pain, tears, friendship and love. I've never wanted to climb anything in my life, but this book makes you want to feel the adrenaline rush and excitement. Step inside and enjoy. You'll be glad you did.

Wow

Everything Pamela Clare writes is my favorite.

Sasha and Darius seemed destined to fall for each other even though they met under the worst of circumstances.

If you're a fan of Scarlet Springs, you know Sasha as a Team member and champion climber. Darius is a Denver police officer who comes to Scarlet to help find the people who tried to kill Sasha.

That's where it starts and you need to read to see how it goes.

Well done, Pamela. Great story!!

Always a treat ro read a book by Pamela clare. In spite of why, I loved visiting with old friends.
The theme: harrassement of women is very important. The double standard, sexisme, misogynism - we must NEVER let it be the normal, and never let anyone get away with it. Whoever cant handle a succesfull, independent, inteligent woman need theraphy, and learn to live with it ( and I am thinking some words that would probably get me banned from goodreads….)
Looking forward to the next book🥰🤗

Sasha and Darius' story was an excellent adventure to end this wonderful series with. These two characters were brought to life by Pamela Clare's deliciously descriptive and emotional writing. They were complete opposites who found each other and then brought out the best in each other, whilst danger lurked around them.
I shall miss this series, all of the books were beautifully written with believable storylines, wonderful characters and their individual struggles and adventures.

A wonderful read and end of a series

Pamela has engaged us in this climbing saga once again. I feel like I’ve been a part of the community and characters of this BoHo mountain town. She provided drama, suspense, love, tears and laughter along with some “steam”.
Oh how I wish this wasn’t the last we’ll hear of Scarlet Springs.

Overall Opinion

Bound to Fall By Pamela Clare
oh damn!! I was hooked from the beginning right through the ending.

The mystery surrounding the h's accident made this an absolute page turner, had my suspicion about who was behind everything...spot on👌🏻

I loved the relationship between the H and h, it was insta love and connection from the get go, even though the H tries to deny his feelings(doesn't last long though...lol)

Secondary Character
Julian and Hunter 😍 loved seeing these guys here. If I'm being honest I know this wasn't the I-Team series. But man did I want Darius to remain with the DPD 🙈
