After turning the lower city into a true sight to behold, Rozemyne aims to continue her development plan and secure a greater influence over the country’s other duchies. As she needs the assistance of commoners to achieve this, she gets to work dismantling the wall that exists between them and the nobles. She tours the printing workshops in the Central District, holds a dyeing competition to unearth skilled craftspeople, and even fantasizes about designing her own library. Not everything is quite so straightforward, however—a normal wedding is enshrouded in complex interduchy politics, and as Rozemyne prepares for her second year in the Royal Academy, she finds herself needing to stay on guard against the rebellious former Veronica faction.
Kazuki started writing novels when she was in her second year of junior high school. After taking an entrance exam, she entered into a national university before graduating and becoming busy with work, stopping her from writing. Once she was married and her child entered kindergarten, Kazuki had more free time, which she used to start writing again. From 2013 onwards, she started publishing her novel Ascendance of a Bookworm on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō which saw success. In 2015, she officially debuted with said series under the T.O. Books imprint.
Plot developments are steady in this volume as usual. But there is the welcome addition of some new characters that will surely become more prominent going on.
The only hint of actual open conflict in this volume was sadly averted, but there are clearly things being plotted that may come to a head by the end of part 4. The undertones and new characters dynamic with the main cast (Rozemyne) are what make this volume especially interesting! It seems that new allys are springing from unlikely places!
Myne has too much on her to-do list, from her brother's wedding (which is a major political event) to her business concerns to her duties as the High Bishop.
I love seeing how Myne's influence has begun to extend to people she doesn't even know. People who are not stupid, and can see the current situation for what it is---Myne driving huge changes across all Ehrenfest. Also hilarious is how many of her changes have totally screwed over some of the schemers, simply because she doesn't do things the way anyone else would do them.
It's also interesting how this volume brings in more conflict between how nobility generally views commoners, and how Myne keeps subtly fighting for their rights. She'd be pleased to just upend the whole system, but even as an archduke's daughter there's only so much she can do. So she's working to change the hearts of those around her so that they'll understand why she values all people, not just nobles.
But her bridge-building goes even beyond that when she meets her brother's new wife. Rozemyne is that rare exception of someone embedded in a world of status and hierarchy and roles and yet everything she knows is secondary to her desire to be friendly with people. And it doesn't matter what people tell her ahead of time, because she's just fundamentally not living in the same world they are. She's still got too much of a modern mindset.
Overall this series continues to delight. Myne's frenetic everyday life remains a roller coaster of the best kind. I rate this book Highly Recommended.
Šoreiz man nav ko teikt. Man patīk jaunais tēls, kas tika iepazīstināts grāmata beigās - mazais princis. Vai karalistei ir ciešas saiknes ar šīs pasaules dieviem? Grūti pateikt, bet pieņemu kā iespējamību.
The royal academy arc is really shaping up to be my favorite. This one was so good! I am loving this series so much I did start reading the new released chapters on J-Novel. Still reading it all in one sitting like this is the most satisfying. Can't wait for the next book!
I procrastinated reviewing this a little too long, but...
Another great volume, as always. I'm sad for the break from the Royal Academy (at least, for much of the novel), but there is much more to this series than that.
The Prologue is told from Matthias' POV. I honestly can't recall if he's been mentioned before--and, if so, I think it was a minor mention--but his viewpoint works well both to talk about the various engagements and weddings that have been going on, as well as to show his thoughts on the faction war in Ehrenfest and how it is affecting him and his future.
This book is a little fuzzy because I'm actually two books ahead right now... (again, that procrastination for reviewing this), but the beginning bits touch base with what's been going on with the merchant side of things, and then we get the big event that is the wedding.
Aurelia is an interesting new character, and it's hard to be sure what to make of her. It's hard to tell if she's hiding secrets or if it really is as simple as being self-conscious of her face. Her introduction does help to shake things up, though.
I really enjoyed seeing how the printing industry was coming along with Groschel. Things go differently than in other places, and I enjoyed seeing how Rozemyne handled things while trying to do so in the noble manner. It really is a tough line to walk.
Once back at the Royal Academy, there's a moment I've been waiting for, though I can understand Rozemyne's hesitation.
Then there's the fun of the fellowship gathering. I won't say anything because of spoilers, but it was quite the surprise. It makes me all the more excited for Rozemyne's second year at the academy.
The Epilogue is told from Hildebrand's POV. I won't explain who he is because of spoilers, but I was excited to see his perspective on things. He is a fun character to read about, and I love the misunderstanding.
Bonus story time. The first one is in Philine's POV, and it's a look into what she does when she is in the castle without Rozemyne. It's cute to see her crushing on a certain character, and I really do think they'd be a good match considering their circumstances. We'll see where that goes in the future.
The second story is from Aurelia's POV. I won't say much for spoilers, but it does give a bit of an answer as to why Aurelia seems a bit aloof. It's also nice to see her thoughts on the various things going on around her. There's even a family tree at the end of her story, to help visualize how she fits into things that way.
There's a third bonus story, this one from Effa's POV. It's nice to see a bit more of her, and to see her both in her work environment and with her love of her child driving her so much. It's nice she has a new path open to getting a closer connection to Rozemyne, and it's just a sweet story.
As for the bonus comics, they're all cute. I especially love the single-panel one. It made me laugh.
Overall, this volume does a great job at covering a bunch of different events to move the story along. The introduction of Aurelia felt like the biggest shake-up, and I'm interested to see if that plays a big role in the story later on or not. Some of the events end up connecting to one another, which helps move the story along. I'm super happy this volume ends back in the academy, as I can't get enough of Rozemyne's time there. Just the few chapters there already sets things up to be quite interesting during her second year.
Like I said earlier, I've actually already read the next volume, but... I'm always excited to read more of this series!
Several interesting things happening, the commoners mistaking Ferdinand's flashy magic circles as the archduke's remodeling was kind of amusing, Elvira interrogating her son looking for material for her next novel and Rozemyne scolding land owning nobles about the need to protect the commoners of their region.
The extra chapters were pretty funny, Aurelia mustering up the courage to socialize, prince Hildebrand mistaking Charlotte for Rozemyne (they must have forgotten to tell him she has stunted growth because of the jureve, apparently the reports were from Anastasius and he's not exactly the best at communicating), Philine pining after Damuel who doesn't understand her flirting and lastly Effa giving her all for the dying competition.
That was, in large part, a relaxing read. There is yet again an undercurrent of chaos in this book though. A seemingly quiet promise of something huge and dramatic to come. The story is slowly progressing to tackling the huge problem that is Georgine and Ahrensbach. More and more Ahrensbach-related characters are being introduced and the story, slowly but surely, begins to become gripping.
The short stories are yet again heartwarming for this book in the series. It's always nice reading other POVs (especially when it's from someone really close to Rozemyne) and learning about what they think of her.
This is yet again a very enjoyable read. I can't wait to read the next!
Miya Kazuki has successfully completed editing and publishing another portion of her epic story of an avid bookworm reincarnated into a society where books are not readily accessible. Her quest to produce enough paper and many books to print is taking root. Liaisons are forming that will insure our tiny protagonist will succeed against the odds. Jealous factions are still at work but Rosemyne’s unconventional ways continue to confound her foes. I hope the author and her publisher continue to adapt her original manuscript to light novel format to showcase the trials and triumphs of this imperturbable little hero.
I honestly cant belive that i made it to book 17. This is the first time have continues a series so long that isnt mange. I really thought that this book was going to be boaring but it actually wasnt that bad. Origionally i started the preface and then stopped 3 or 4 pages in but then i realized that in about a week the next book was about to com out so i needed to finish this one so i can immediatly stat that next one soon.
Well im glad i did. I can wait for the next one to see how its going to be becaue of how this book ended. I feel like the next one is going to be so cute with the young prince being there.
These books are fantastic as always I am always eagerly awaiting the newest release. I found this book seemed to focus on surface drama nothing too in depth, maybe a prelude to the next book? It lacked an action type section and i felt like I finished the book all to quickly. Putting that aside I always still enjoyed reading this book. Mynes manical fasination with books and everyones willingness to go along with her craziness. Thank you for your hard work time and effort into making such a wonderful series
A fine conclusion to this recent bunch of books. But this one felt way more plot driven, way more mechanical than the previous two. It was nice to have a Myne's mom story though at the end. It seems from this books perspective that the school year is surprisingly short. It is hard to get the mix of plot and character right - after all the characters do need to grow up eventually. This series does feel like it could be written deeper at any point. In the particular book, I wanted just a little bit more. 3.5 of 5.
A welcome respite from all the politics and scheming (will forever be present but not a lot of those in this book, imho), so I imagine the next volume will pick up the pace again.
Can't wait to see what will go down in the Royal Academy and find out about that other bride. Oh, and that bit about Philine - I Did Not See That Coming At All, talk about a curveball but I should've figured. Loose threads in this series are never left alone.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Back to a more fun volume whereby Rozemyne was devastated to find out that . And her obsession with seafood was hilarious to read, it might be the third (after book and family) most important thing in Rozemyne's head. I eagerly awaited her seafood culinary adventure!
Mayne still is busy as usual. Her printing business, taking off. Two new brides from Ahrensback, one seemed a spy and the other just rly want to escape that dreadful place.
I'm more excited in the next book as it will be their 2nd year at the Academy. And i'm dreading the day Ahrensbach will recommend for Ferdinand to marry someone from them again.
So much information from the extra chapters that really give more perspective of the storyline. I'm a little surprised how Wilfred and Charlotte can't really see Rozemyne's objective. I can't wait to see what the third prince presence brings to the storyline.
Lots of things happen in this one - there's a competition with a new dye method, the lower city is cleaned up, Rozemyne teaches several nobles that commoners are people, too, there's a lot of political stuff, and school starts up again. In many ways, it felt more like a lot of short stories than one cohesive one. I'm hoping the next volume pulls things together for me.
I really enjoyed this one, and I am glad that I read the author's notes at the end that said this and the previous three books in the series were written back to back because altogether they were great, but separately they felt so quick.
I enjoyed this a lot... and as usual can't wait to see what comes next.
Time is going a lot faster, but I don't mind. Kind of disappointed nothing dangerous happened, but it still stays true and makes sense in the context of the world. I'm looking forward for the next volume.
How oh how I wish that Goodreads had a "Select all that apply" option for adding books to your shelf, especially books in a series, especially when there are more than 20 books in that series and you binge-read all of them, not quite in one sitting, but close enough.
Just as amazing as always. The joy I feel getting a new book to this series to the sadness I feel when I finish it the very next day cause I can't put it down and now have to wait for the next issue is undescribable. WORTH THR WAIT THOUGH! Can't wait for the next book.
