“You think any more about what I said to you yesterday?” Stan says eventually. “About me and Patty setting you up with a date for the wedding?”
“Oh, give it a rest Stanley...” Richie shrugs Stan’s hand away and rubs his eyes tiredly under his glasses. “Who do you even know in New York? You live in a swamp.”
“I live in Atlanta, and half of Patty’s family is here, plus she’s here for art shows all the time,” Stan says, which Richie already knows, because Eddie’s fledgling Instagram often has pictures of him at galleries with Patty or at baseball games with Stan or getting dinner with them both and it makes Richie ache with the three-thousand miles of distance that’s usually between them.
“What would you even tell a guy about me anyway?” Richie asks. “Hey Jeff from Patty’s gallery, want to go on a date with my friend Richie, who’s so in love with his best friend – who is gonna be there the whole time, by the way – that he’s probably not gonna look at you twice the whole night? Sounds like the offer of the year.”
Or: Stan and Bill come up with a plan to get Richie and Eddie together. It works. Eventually.
