A ranger’s duty. The rotten heart of a king. Rebellion spilled from the blood of family.
Rew’s sorrow clings to him like a cape. He’s wrought death and destruction in his quest to defeat the princes, but the alternative is worse. The Mordens have ruled Vaeldon for centuries, and every generation collects its tithe in blood. It’s time for it to stop. It’s time to raise the banner, and march to the final battle.
Anne has felt Rew’s pain, and she finally understands why he’s kept her at bay. Cinda knows the grim price for victory, and that she must pay it. Raif and Zaine grasp for a life they can understand, but it is beyond them. The rangers are broken and scattered, hiding from the king they once served. All of them must come together behind the banner, or Vaeldon will be lost.
The king and his sons have twisted the people of Vaeldon into shadows of what they were. They’ve used nobles and common alike to feed their ravenous hunger for power. The rot in the kingdom begins at the throne, but it does not end there. Will Rew and his companions have the nerve to cut deep enough to remove the horror that has infected all of Vaeldon, or will their quest be for naught?

Never a dull moment. I was a little bummed about Alsayer’s fate for some reason but other than that, it was fast paced and action packed. It kept me invested in the story and these characters.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
With Caleb and Heimdal dead, Rew sets his eyes on Halcyon and has a simulacra. In order to win, he'll need Alsayer to train Cinda to be under her control. Even with his New family, can he defeat Valchon and then the undead king?
The characters are well developed and draw your empathy. There are many interesting elements to the plot but not so many you feel angst to follow and remember, a good balance.
I enjoyed the escape but I have one complaint, AC has taped this obnoxious marketing technique of writing short books that don't stand alone I assume so he can charge more. It's more like a soap building a dilemma you must buy the next chapter to resolve.
Wait a couple of years until you can pick these up for $1.99.
Just finished Book 5 Raise the Banner by Author A C Cobble, the story just keeps on keeping on & keeps expanding & involving different characters as Ranger Rew along with Cinda, Raif, Zaine & Ann head towards a confrontation with Rew's Father the King, After confronting his Brothers in an attempt to find witch Brother will become the New King, the current King will then take their sole & appearance, I've now started book 6 The Rangers Lament, I hope the story just keep getting more interesting. try this Author A C Cobble Laurie Stuart
The book was enjoyable and read very quickly. This is a great overall series. Of course, there is another book coming, plus there are hints of another book after the next one.
The continuing story stays fresh. The characters grow as they survive more perils and learn more about themselves and others. Replete with gruesome consequences, but not gratuitous ones.
So far, so much blood death and fratricide - put like that and you have to think what’s so good about that (and I forgot to mention the 2 towns that got wiped out)? Answer: um…….good point but, I still want to know what happens next
Another fine installment but lacks the fast paced action sequences and deep character development of previous books. It is more of a house keeping and stage setting piece that puts everything in order for the conclusion.
I thought this was a trilogy book 4 made m e wish it was. This book was well worth the wait and hopefully the last book 6 will not disappoint. I hope it will not be my lament.
Long running adventures that span a kingdom of increasingly difficult challenges to end the despotic rule of Rew's family including his necromancer father.
This series took a bit to get rolling, but once it did, it's nonstop. The children Rew took under his wing in the first book are now powers, to varying degrees in their own right. There's one prince left between Rew and the king. Let it be done
The wonderful imagination of the author is incredible! All the characters, unique and strong, continue their journeys into perilous circumstances where conflicts and intrigue abound. It’s definitely a great story!
There are no dislikes for the 5th volume. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoy great sword fights and magic. So well written, it's easy to form a picture of the scene being read.
A little too much exposition...found myself skimming pages waiting for something to happen. Still like the story and will finish the last book in March.
An excellent read, and an exciting money - despite being a little predictable. This writer has the touch of a real storyteller, and leaves the reader wanting more!
