With Vengeance

Rate this book
A struggle between business and pleasure is further challenged by secret identities and a malicious enemy.

SHE HAS A MISSION

Katana James’s dreams come true when she gets to audition for the new lead guitarist for her favorite band, Bleeding Vengeance. Kat knows the odds are against her with her gender, her anxiety disorder, and her crush on the lead singer. But as soon as she overcomes two of those challenges, two more come up: First, her infatuation with the singer fades away only for the brilliant, kind, and mysterious Klement Burke, the bassist, to set her heart aflame. Then she becomes the target of a malicious stalker.

HE HAS A SECRET

Klement Burke, the brains behind Bleeding Vengeance, has a huge secret. He didn’t offer Katana James an audition to repay a favor owed. The real reason he recruited Kat is that he already knew of her talent, since he’s been providing tech support for Kat’s website for years. He’s confident that he can suppress his attraction to her—until he meets her in person. When Kat’s car is sabotaged, causing him to invite her to stay in his mansion with the rest of the band, so is Klement’s willpower to keep things professional between them. Now he has to figure out how to keep her in his band and in his life, protect her from a crazed stalker, and reveal his true identity.

Smooth Writing and a Well Developed Story

Very well-written. There was a lot going on, but the writing never felt forced.

Engaging! I devoured this book, wanting to know what would happen next.

Great chemistry between Kat and Klem. I liked her, but I loved him.

Exquisite attention to detail.

As intended, I despised Richard. At times he came off a little too cartoonish villain for me.

No doubt I will be going back to read book on and

Can’t wait to read the third book in the series.

Excited to recommend this book to my friends who love m/f romance!

SHE MEANS BUSINESS

Twenty-three year old Katana James can shred on the guitar. Not that anyone would know, as she’s spent most of her time working on a popular news and gossip website for Heavy Metal fans since her own band broke up. But her dreams are in reach when she gets an audition to play with her favorite band, Bleeding Vengeance. Kat won’t let her gender, her anxiety disorder, or even the pranks of a malicious stalker stand in her way. The only thing to threaten her focus? A growing fascination with the group’s brilliant, mysterious bass player.

HE OFFERS PLEASURE

Klement Burke has always been the heart, soul and brain of Bleeding Vengeance. He’s the kind of rock star who stays in the shadows, a perfectionist more interested in satisfying his brain than other parts of his body. Until he auditions Katana James. At first it seemed a perfect idea, as he’s been aware of her talent for some time. But meeting her in the flesh ignites thoughts far from professional. Despite the conflict of work, the odds against her falling for a geek like him, and the secret he’s been hiding, his heart, body and soul now belong to Kat.

Review:
“Klement’s breath hissed through his teeth. He stiffened, and his fingers stopped their exquisite ministrations. Not wanting him to let her go, she rubbed her cheek against his chest.”

5 vengeful stars!!! Heavy metal, hot couple, sexy story… what more could you ask for??

Katana works for a gossip website for Heavy Metal fans, but she longs to be on the stage again shredding on her guitar! Luck comes her way when she’s offered the chance to audition with her favorite bank Bleeding Vengeance. And with that under her belt she refuses to let anything stand in her way… even the creeper stalker she has. Except that changes the minute she sees the bass player Klement. Klement is the force that drives Bleeding Vengeance, and is fine living in the shadows of his other bandmates. He’s not your typical rock star. He’s been following Katana for a long time and now that she’s in front of him, he’s smitten. But can she fall for him?? Not to mention he has a huge secret that could ruin anything he has planned for them….

I was hooked the minute I started reading!! This is a totally different rock star book, but that’s not a bad thing at all!! It’s refreshing to see a rock star not be all about the “rock star” lifestyle. Klement and Katana’s relationship is pure and genuine and I can’t say enough good words about it! I can’t wait to read more from this series!

Katana James can shred a guitar with the best of them, but she spends most of her time running a heavy metal website with her best friend Kinley. Then she is given the chance to fulfill a dream of playing with her favorite band, Bleeding Vengeance, and nothing is going to stand in her way. Not her anxiety issues or her crazy stalker ex-boyfriend. Enter Klement Burke, the mysterious bass player for the band. From the start, the connection between the two of them was sizzling hot, but he is hiding something from her. Will their relationship be able overcome this big secret?

With Vengeance was my first read by Brooklyn Ann and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I love a good rockstar romance and this set the bar pretty high with all of the twists & turns thrown in there. I would highly recommend this to anyone and look forward to reading more of this author's work.

"With Vengeance" by Brooklyn Ann

My Thoughts....

What a perfect pair as the author brings to us ... Katana and Klement. But as the story starts out it seems like Katana may have had eyes of another member of the Bleeding Vengeance band [Cliff] until great chemistry starts and she knew it was for another member of the band....the metal band's bassist, Klement. Be ready for a well written story that was a little predicable at times but still engaging where you will find yourself turning the pages to see what was coming next. This was especially in the part where Katana's ex boyfriend [Richard] was their being the villain that would bring in some suspense into this well told story. However, also what secret did Klement have that he was keeping from Katana? I liked the characters that were brought into the read a fun part being so well portrayed and believable giving the story some hilarious moments where you will definitely put a smile on your face especially with the hot steamy chemistry that these two had. So to find out how Klement [hot nerd & had ADHD] and Katana [who pops Xanax suffering from PTSD] will form this relationship you will have to pick up "With Vengeance" to see how well this author will pulls the reader into this well told story. It was great seeing just how these two were able to help each other.

So, if you are looking for a story about epic rock star romance pursing metal music with 'mystery, suspense, drama, erotic passion and steamy hot sex' then I would definitely recommend this good read for you.

The Rockstar Book I Have Been Waiting For. I Loved This Book It Was Amazing, Epic And Out Right Hot As Hell. There Was So Much More To It Than Just The Rock Star Element. There Was A Huge Back Story And A Whole Lot Of Passion. Not Only For The Characters But For The Music That I Love Too.

The Chemistry Between Katana And Klement Was Off The Chart. When They Acted On It Its Hot As Hell. There Is A Lot of Secrets In Parts Of This Book But I Won't Spoil Any Of That For You.

This Book Is Full Of Music, Love, Fear And Hope. I Recommend This Book Greatly. A Must Read For One Of My Favourite Genre's.

Think you'll never read a romance novel - let alone sit up all night with one until you've finished it?

Think you'd never spend hours at parties telling astonished friends (many of them hyper male musicians and surfers) that you've recently become a romance novel convert - and explaining why?

Neither did I...until by a total fluke (I was looking up music biographies of various genres, including heavy metal) I got directed to Brooklyn Anne's "Hearts Of Metal" series as a suggested read.

Now I'm a long-time journalist who has done a lot of "serious" music writing, including working on a heavy metal/hard rock magazine, and I was immediately fascinated to discover that someone was writing romance novels set in this (until relatively recently) hyper-masculine world.

I was even more amazed (given my knowledge of romance novels was zilch) to find these books were peppered with strong, independent, openly feminist heroines (such as "With Vengeance"'s music blogger and guitar shredder Katana) who are more than a match for their rocker heroes!

I was not surprised to see metal musicians (like the bass playing hero, Klement) being portrayed as cat-loving, hyper-intelligent, socially aware and strongly moral: anyone who has seen the best-selling "Metal Cats" book of photographs of hunky metal musicians proudly posing with their pampered felines, or has moved in these circles, knows plenty of metal musicians who fit this description. Likewise, just as in any area of society, there are plenty in that scene who are selfish, sexist and just plain dumb...as some of the other characters in this book are accurately portrayed.

But what most impressed me most - apart from author Brooklyn Ann's accurate insight into this growing musical culture (in her Christmas e-book "Metal And Mistletoe", she even sets up a Romeo and Juliet pair of musical lovers who are from different metal genres, as well as different socio-economic backgrounds and races!) - is how from page one she hooks you into caring about her characters and wanting to know what's in store for them. Because, dammit, you like them!

The minute I had finished "With Vengeance", I immediately ordered "Kissing Vicious" (which actually flows into "With Vengeance"...a surprise joy was to discover that all the characters in the "Hearts of Metal" series are subtly intertwined in a flowing chain of stories), "Rock God" - the third in the series - and then the Christmas e-book as soon as it became available. And they have become my surprise Australian festive season reads, being devoured along with other Aussie summer sweet treats like passionfruit ice-cream, mangoes and (of course) giftwrapped chocolates.

Now that I've lost my romance reader virginity, I'm now going to delve into this auto mechanic turned novelist's other series while waiting for another "Hearts Of Metal" book (she's got to do one with a drummer hero/heroine this time!). And pin a photo of one of those lovely longhaired boys from "Metal Cats" up on my office wall, because I've learnt it doesn't hurt a girl to dream...

Kat gets a dream audition for her favorite heavy metal band, and yes she's a chick. I have to be honest I liked the fact that she wasn't a hard ass chick who likes metal. She wears makeup and dresses and is five feet tall. But I love that. Klement is in the authors words a geeky Viking. I know I know seriously hot right? He's the bass player for the band Bleeding Vengeance that Kat is auditioning for the spot of guitarist. She's twenty three, he's 35. He also has a secret! But Klement is immediately smitten with Kat. Kat on the other hand had always had a major crush on the lead singer. However, that doesn't last long before she's looking at Klement in a new light. Klement is the brain behind the band, writing the songs, and is a perfectionist in the studio. Their is a nice build up to Kat and Klem's relationship. In my opinion the author did an excellent job of timing, which for some is not as important but the flow of the book was just right. Again, in my opinion its the difference between a good story and a great one. This is a great one and I recommended.

"4 out of 5 stars! Katana's (Kat) dreams are about to come true ... she just got the position to be the lead guitarist in her fave metal rock band. However, to prove herself, the band agrees to have her only be with them to record their latest record. Soon she proves herself to them while charming the pants off Klement (Klem), the lead bassist and the "band manager." Yet, with an ex and past fears trying to keep them apart, can Kat and Klement find a way to stick together through it all?

It’s one sweet erotic rockstar romance intrigued me from the beginning..."

This is the second in a series but is a standalone with a little cross over. A dream come true, getting to play with your favorite metal band. Katana, despite all her personal problems, wants this more than just about anything. She is taken by surprise when it is not her teen heart throb that gets her attention. Klement has not told Katana the truth about their first meeting and he is worried that it will come back to haunt him. The attraction is strong between the two, and they come through with flying colors. Her past tries to reclaim her, but with Klement's love and support, she survives.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review, and I highly recommend this book.

Great book! This is my first book by this author but it definitely won't be my last. I love books with strong females and Kat was just that. Her dreams come true and she's gets a interview to play guitar with one of her favorite bands.
Klement is the bass player for Bleeding Vengeance, he has a secret that he's keeping from Kat. When the two act on their feelings and become more then just band members, he knows he has to tell her.
What a great book! Not only are the characters awesome but the writing is fantastic. It's a hot suspenseful read that your not going to want to miss.

What’s it About? Katana James is a supremely talented guitarist. She’s so talented she lands an audition to play for her favorite band. She thinks she’s got a good shot and she nails the audition but it’s the band’s bass player, Klement Burke who threatens her control. His quiet intensity and intelligence interests her like no one else before. Klem didn’t expect to be so drawn to Kat but he doesn’t want to make things more complicated than they already are because he’s hiding a secret from her and doubts a geek like him could ever get a woman like Kat to fall in love with him.

Overall reaction to the story? Brooklyn Ann is one of the most talented authors I’ve come across since I started reading romance again. She brings her characters to life in a way that seems so realistic but without all the unnecessary human drama that sometimes accompanies rock star romances. One of my favorite things about the Hearts of Metal series is the strength and fortitude of the heroines. They’re strong without seeming invincible and they don’t let anyone put them in a “category.” They make their own mark and the heroes are confident a genuinely good guys even with their mistakes. They don’t make you want to kick them for annoying you to death.

Describe the hero in five words: Geeky. Talented. Caring. Secretive. Stubborn.
Did you like him? Yes.
Why? Klem is a geeky musician, do I have to explain further??? He’s got this shy, quiet magnetism to him that is completely irresistible. I loved that about him as much as I loved his intelligence and humor. I loved that he was looking for the best addition to the band and it didn’t matter if the best was a female as long as she was what they needed. I can’t tell you how sexy that is. Klem’s being a musician was only part of his charm though; he was also a really great IT guy too which lent itself to quite a bit of humor throughout the book. It also provided a real sense of insecurity within Klem when it came to Kat because he just didn’t see himself as the type of guy that could genuinely keep a good woman like Kat interested in him (Ridiculous, he’s a gem). I loved that slice of doubt and insecurity that made him seem more human rather than rock god.

Describe the heroine in five words: Talented. Determined. Scrappy. Snarky. Stubborn.
Did you like her? Yes.
Why? Kat is super talented to begin with but really it all has to do with the fact that she’s a woman kicking butt in a male dominated profession that makes me love her all the more. She’s different than typical female characters but at the same time she is STILL a woman with a woman’s heart. I loved her tenacity and her dedication to not only doing her best as a guitarist but to being a better guitarist. She was confident about her abilities without being cocky about it and she never made anyone feel like she was better than them unless they tried to make her feel lousy. She’s definitely BFF material.

Let’s talk about the romance: Klem and Kat were electric together. From the start there was a great connection and chemistry between them but because they worked together Klem wanted to protect her and not feel like he was taking advantage of the situation (Insert Swoon Here) but Kat knew what she wanted and she didn’t need to be protected from her feelings. I loved them as a couple because they were always equals and I never felt that Klem was using his position as a member of a well known band to get what he wanted from Kat. Both of them were just themselves and their connection had a chance to really grow before the conflict set in and tried to tear them apart.

Song Choice: Parallel Line by Keith Urban. Yes I know this is technically a country song for a rock star couple BUT the lyrics definitely sound like something Klem would say to Kat. It’s a song from the point of view of an emotionally vulnerable man.

How about that supporting cast? Klem’s band mates are quite the cast. They each have their own personalities and they’re a bit wild now and then but completely likable. Sometimes they can tread the line between right and wrong but at the same time they’re totally real and relatable. I liked them but it was Cliff who really got my attention. He’s just itching for someone to put him in his place. He’s arrogant but I couldn’t help liking him anyway.

Click It or Skip It? Click It. These rock stars know how to put on a show on and off stage.

With Vengence by Brooklyn Ann is the second on the Metal Series and features two of my favorite secondary characters from the first book, Klememt and Kat. This book has intrigue, a little angst, mystery and heart which are all components of a great story!

Kat has the opportunity of a lifetime with an audition as the studio guitarist for her favorite metal band Bleeding Vengence. When she gets the gig she is determined to work hard to make it permanent.

Klement is the bassist for Bleeding Vengence but he is also IT Guy for Kat and Kin's website. He gives Kat a chance because he knows she is talented. What he never expected was his reaction to her and the want for her that was almost instantaneous.

While Klement is determined to keep Kat at arms length because she was a colleague he also wants to keep her safe after her tires are slashed and a dead cat is delivered to his house. But in a moment of weakness the kiss they share makes it harder to stay away.

Will Kat and Klement give on to their feelings? Or will their secrets and Kata stalker get in their way? You need to read to find out!

Another beautiful story after Kinley and Quin's story. I like how feelings were developing between Kat and Klement. The fact that she had years of collaboration with him as the IT-guy is such a powerful background to build friendship.

I like the idea of how friendship and support slowly grow into love. I like how the plot goes. To be honest, I'm a bit frustrated for Cliff to have bad breath and stealing her solo 😄 but he does not look so bad. I like him.

Maybe somehow I feel like it was too much of slow burn before Kat and Klement had their intimate relationship, but I'm fine with that.

The final episodes are overwhelmed by action, all loose ends come together and everyone gets what they deserve. Maybe it was somehow unexpected for the romance to be so intense, but after the first book of the series I am not so surprised.

Thanks for this great story. It's easily readable but resonates for long. 💔🤘

I am reminded of the anime "Full Moon wo Sagashite" and the song titled "Eternal Snow". It talks of needing the love of another, finding it, and desiring nothing but that to keep the nightmares at bay. It's a must-watch show as much as this is a must-read book.

This book is very fast paced. There's a lot of action even when nothing is happening. It's easy to say this is not much of a romance, but an observatory story of the reality that is anxiety, PTSD, and a haunting past. With romance tossed into the salad mix.

It helps to have read the first book, Kissing Viscous, but it's not completely necessary. It would give you knowledge of what happened to Kinley, but even then that's not hard to guess from the information given in this book.

Kat was getting the audition of a lifetime. Lefty the lead guitarist of her favorite band had died of an overdose and Klement, the bassist had invited her to this audition. It’s a dream come true for her and she won’t mess up this opportunity. Cliff, the lead singer was Kats crush but when Klement spoke to her she would literally flushed. There was just something about this Viking of a man that turned her on. I’ll need to ask someone what a bowl of weed is, I’m totally at a loss and I thought I’d heard all lingo related to this. Did I mention that I’m totally in love with Klement? I think his problem makes him even sweeter.
I loved this story, it’s romantic, there’s a stalker, and it just works. I’m giving this book five stars and highly recommend it.

I voluntarily read an Advance Review Copy of this book. I became easily lost in this story. I enjoy the way she portrays her characters, their strengths and weaknesses.
The female character suffers PTSD, however she is feisty and determined to make it in the world of heavy metal. She can fix cars, run a blog, and shred on a guitar with the best of them! The only thing she has not been good at is relationships - until now! This is the second in the series. I have not read the first yet, but it is a stand alone with a little crossover and I look forward to reading more.

I really enjoyed Kat and Klement’s story. It was funny, informative and entertaining. I laughed when you find out Klement is the head of Bleeding Vengeance and also the IT Guy. I really got to like him when he falls asleep with Kat’s nightie. There is also a stalker who is really nuts and scary. This was a good read that I would recommend. I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved the dynamic between Klement and Kat. I wish Bleeding Vengeance was a real band so I can listen to them because the songs that were described sounded really cool! I love that Kat can hold her own but Klement still takes care of her and protects her. I will definitely be reading the other Hearts Of Metal books!
