This is a Women's Fiction/Romance, and this is the first book in the Hometown Brothers series. I found this was a really slow moving book, and I also felt it kept repeating the same things over and over. The characters I found to be good. I just wanted more from this book. I found the ending to be a good ending for the book, and I enjoyed it. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin) or author (Lee Tobin McClain) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
THE FOREVER FARMHOUSE is the first book in the Hometown Brothers series by Lee Tobin McClain and it is a wonderful story of second chances. Ryan Hastings has returned to his foster home on Teaberry Island in the Chesapeake Bay after the funeral of his father Wayne Raines, to see how his foster mother, Betty is doing.
Ryan came to the island many years ago as a troubled boy and lived next door to Mellie. They were best friends for years until Ryan left the island. Before he left, Mellie and Ryan were intimate and Mellie’s heart breaks when Ryan leaves. Well, Mellie kept a big secret from everyone after that including Ryan. She has a son now, Alfie, and no one knows that his father is Ryan. THE FOREVER FARMHOUSE is a wonderful story that deals with some very tough issues. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to continue with this heart tugging series. I was immediately swept up in this community, the lives and the loves of its residents… Truly, I can’t say enough good things about this wonderful story.
I totally enjoyed THE FOREVER FARMHOUSE and I wasn’t ready to stop reading when I finished the book. I just wanted to continue reading about these wonderful people. I’m going to try and be patient waiting for the next book in this series but I hope to return to Chesapeake very soon. Lee Tobin McClain is such a wonderful author and I love how her stories make it seem as if she is writing just for me. Ms. McClain really knows how to write about family drama, heartbreak, and forgiveness. I can not wait to read more by this wonderful and heart tugging author. You really should read it too. You won’t want to miss reading about these great characters. One of the things I like most about Lee Tobin McClain is she doesn’t just write romance, she writes about the whole community.

The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain is book one in her Hometown Brothers series.
Scientist, Ryan Hastings, has returned to his former foster home on Teaberry Island in the Chesapeake Bay after the funeral of his foster father Wayne Raines, to check on his foster mother, Betty Raines. Ryan finds himself doing what he often did as a teen, staring at the pretty girl next door.
Mellie Anderson, the girl next door, is now the widowed mother of a son herself, but still finds herself daydreaming about the cute guy next door, Ryan Hastings.
Will the handsome guy next door finally win the cute girl next door despite mistakes made years ago?
Lee Tobin McClain has another romantic hit to her credit. She also continues to visit serious issues within the scope of the novel. The characters are well-conceived and fully-developed. We even run into a familiar face from her Off Season series. The plot is compelling and holds the reader’s attention. Overall, The Forever Farmhouse is a seriously heartfelt romance, and a 4 out of 5 star read that I recommend to all readers of chaste romance.
My thanks to the author for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.
The past was filled with issues, bad memories, and the hurts. Coming back as an adult, his love from back them was still present when he saw her. Mellie has a son, he could help him with the problem of school.bullies. His dreams of more, he was too damage. A lot of subjects was brought out and was well written in this story. Along with second changes of a future. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
The Forever Farmhouse was a great second chance at love story! The main characters had some intense romantic chemistry that they worked hard to pull against. There were concerns on both sides. Ryan felt that he was not a good relationship choice for anyone, which is what sent him fleeing from the island and Mellie a decade earlier. Mellie was worried that Ryan would figure out that he was her son’s father and resent her for the secret she had kept for so long.
I appreciated the complex reasons that Ryan and Mellie’s relationship had fallen apart so many years ago and felt bad for Mellie that she carried guilt over the decision to not tell Ryan about his son. I also enjoyed seeing her connect with Ryan and realize that he was a wonderful man and just the person that both she and Alfie needed.
This complex story dealt with more than just a secret child and a second chance at love. Various characters struggled with many complex problems including grief, depression, the after effects of child abuse, infertility, bullying, and much more. I look forward to reading more books set on this island.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
3.5 stars Main male character, Ryan, wasn’t developed enough for my taste. Setting: Teaberry Island in Chesapeake Bay. Mellie and Betty Raines ( Ryan’s mother) were the most interesting characters to me. Slow read, repetitive as Mellie could not decide about sharing her secret. Will I read more of this series ? Not sure. Ryan’s also adopted brothers will appear in next books. Cody is recently out of the Army. And Luis is a businessman.
I loved getting to know the people of Teaberry Island. They came to life from page one! This book is warm and charming, but don't let that fool you. There is a LOT of tension! Loved the plot. Loved Bettie's journey. And I especially love how it all worked out for Mellie and Ryan. Can't wait for the next book in this series!
The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain Book 1 of 3: Hometown Brothers “[A] magnetic second chance romance…McClain pits her charming, authentic characters against the realistic problems of everyday life, making for a story that is deeply emotional but never soapy…Readers won’t want to put this down.”—Publishers Weekly, STARRED REVIEW A Chesapeake island homecoming—and a life-changing discovery Ryan Hastings first came to Teaberry Island, he was a troubled teen on his last chance. But in this close-knit community, friendship and forgiveness are always near at hand, and forever love might be waiting just next door. This is Ryan Hastings and Mellie Anderson and son Alfie's story. THE FERRYBOAT REACHED Teaberry Island just as the last bit of sun sank behind it, turning the bay into a glossy golden mirror. Ryan Hastings considered himself a serious scientist, not given to surges of emotion. Nonetheless, as he stepped onto the small, isolated island, happiness washed over him like a gentle Chesapeake wave. “Traveling light, are you?” The ferryman handed Ryan his single suitcase and accepted the substantial bonus Ryan had offered for the late-evening ride. “Got a place to stay?” Ryan nodded, even though he wasn’t sure of his welcome. “With Betty Raines.” “Oh, uh-huh. Shame about Wayne.” Then he squinted at Ryan. “You’re one of their foster kids. The genius, right?” Ryan glanced over at Mellie’s house. Lights on there, too, but no movement. If only he and Mellie hadn’t parted on such bad terms, he could have called her to get her take on how Betty was doing. Could Betty be hurt, or sick? He tried the doorknob. Locked, but easily picked. He pulled out his pocketknife and knelt, studying the lock. “Stop it right there. I have a weapon.” The female voice was pitched low, but Ryan would have known it anywhere. Static sparking up and down his spine, he dropped the knife, lifted his hands and turned to face his would-be assailant. “Mellie. It’s Ryan.” She went still, her features hidden by moon shadows. “Ryan...Hastings?” “It’s me.” Slowly, he lowered his hands and stood, but didn’t move toward her even though longing tugged at him, strong as an ocean’s riptide. For the first time her weapon registered: a baseball bat. His lips twitched, even on top of his deeper feelings. Mellie had always been a great hitter, driving balls way into the marshland when it was her turn at bat. A dark figure moved behind her. “Mom? What’s going on?” I recommend reading. The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain is a wonderful well written 5 star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Lee Tobin McClain. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hometown Brothers Book 1: The Forever Farmhouse Book 2: The Bluebird Bakery Book 3: The Beach Reads Bookshop
The Forever Farmhouse is the first book in the Hometown Brothers series by Lee Tobin McClain and it is a great start to the series. Ryan Hastings came to Teaberry Island as a troubled youth and lived with foster parents, Wayne and Betty Raines. He fell in love with the girl next door, Mellie Anderson. He left her to go to college and had not returned until the funeral of Wayne Raines. Now a well known scientist, he gets a job working on the island so he could make sure Betty is doing okay. It doesn't take long for his feelings for Mellie to resurface. Mellie also loved Ryan and they had one wonderful night together before he left. When she found out she was pregnant, she married someone else and everyone assumed that her son Alfie was his, but Mellie and Wayne knew the truth. Alfie is an extremely bright boy who is teased and bullied. Ryan knows how he feels and steps in and gives him some extra support. What will happen when Ryan realized that Alfie is his son?
This was a good story about new beginnings, second chances, bullying, gifted children, secrets and lies. Wayne and Mellie thought they had good reasons for keeping the secret of Alfie's parentage, but lies and secrets always have a way to come back and bite you. I loved Alfie and felt bad for him. He wasn't accepted by the other kids and was lost and alone, causing him to make some mistakes that could have ended badly. The story is a bit predictable, but the story was sweet and I enjoyed being swept up in it. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Tanya Eby. She is a narrator that I have listened to often, with her calm voice and sweet sound it is a perfect fit for this romance.
The Forever Farmhouse begins a new series by Lee Tobin McClain with the return of Ryan Hastings—a once troubled youth who found nurturing and love in his foster parents and is now making a name for himself in the environmental science community. Also on the island is the girl he may have loved in his youth but ran from when the fear of his past came knocking.
McClain gives readers two characters who are easy to like (Ryan because of the trauma he endured and overcame) and Mellie because of her heart for people and her desire to do the hard things in order to give her son the best life possible.
An Alfie-sized secret sits between them as they reconnect, each determined not to repeat the past yet drawn to the other like a moth to the flame. As Ryan takes time to connect with Mellie’s son, readers get a glimpse of the father he could become. But will finding out the truth push him away or draw him closer.
I look forward to spending some more time on Teaberry Island and learning more about Ryan’s brothers through this series.

Bestselling romance author, Lee Tobin McClain, pens a new heartwarming romance series, kicking it off with The Forever Farmhouse. Ryan Hastings hasn’t come back to Teaberry island much since he left for college, but when he gets word that his foster mother isn’t coping well after the death of her husband he decides to bring his research with him and come back to the place where he left his heart. Mellie Anderson, was more than the girl next door, she was Ryan’s first and only love. Like his foster mother, she is widowed, but has a ten-year-old son and seems to be doing just fine. But the reality is, she is not coping well being in such close proximity with her son’s father. Although he is an esteemed scientist, Ryan isn’t very good with dates and has no idea that he fathered a child, something Mellie is fine with him never knowing. But as they start to gravitate towards each other again and Ryan starts to fall back in love with the island and with her – secrets are bound to come out. Narrated calmly and expertly by Tanya Eby who breathes life into the small-town Chesapeake Island community. Extremely slow moving and filled with every inspirational trope imaginable, this audio is only recommended for those who like their romances to be all fluff and no substance.
Second chance romance with a very big and very inappropriate secret. Check. Leading man starring as the youth with a troubled past. Returned home a hero of sorts. Determined to help the foster mother who saved him. As she is now left to cope with the sudden death of her husband. Check. Hometown girl reappearing always just a little too close for comfort. Check. Annoying allusions to secrets too many times to count. When said secret is as obvious as the plot to a Hallmark movie.
That is what we have here in a nutshell with Ryan and the gang. This is a likeable read for the most part. The main plot device of the secret is what proves the biggest downside to the story. It deviates so much of the story away from romance, bonding, family, and second chances. That by the time that the fallout from said unnecessary secret has been dealt with. The HEA has been religated to a mere afterthought.
Thanks to Netgalley and Mira for providing the review copy upon which this critique was based. All opinions herein are those of WTF Are You Reading?
Ryan and Mellie were a high school crush. Ryan left the island where they grew up and established a career as an environmental scientist. Meanwhile, Mellie stayed on the island and raised the baby she had with Ryan. Ryan didn't know about the child and Mellie marries another man. Ryan ran away from Mellie and felt he couldn't have a relationship because of his awful childhood. Now we are in present, Mellie's husband has died. Ryan's foster father has died. Ryan comes to help his foster mother clean up the house and recover from her grief. Meanwhile, Ryan takes a new look at Mellie and his past. And starts to hope that maybe the future could include a family like he has always wanted.
Mellie is a single mother that has finally settled in life and living a good life. Her previous husband passed away (it wasn’t quite clear when exactly), he was good to her and she loved him but she could never forget her first love, Ryan. Ryan is her son, Alfie’s father. No one close to her knows and she has kept it a secret. Mellie has created a good life for Alfie but soon all changes when Ryan comes back into her life. I found Mellie to be that typical mom, wanting to make sure everyone was ok and safe. Though she also in turn kind of neglected herself and her needs.
Ryan is a successful professor and is currently trying to get a grant for a science project to help protect the shoreline. He has come to help his foster mother recover after losing her husband. The house is a mess. Her husband kept everything and it kind of reminded me of those hoarder houses. Well maybe not that extreme but they definitely didn’t throw anything away. She also was suffering from Depression and coming to terms with living alone after years of being married.
Ryan is surprised to see Mellie but more surprised to see her with a son. Her son Alfie is gifted and Ryan bonds with him immediately. Will he find out Alfie is his son? Will his relationship with Mellie heal?
Setting
I can just picture Teaberry Island. A small island where everyone knows everyone. A small town with that charm and coziness. It just reminded me of those holiday Hallmark movies!
Final Thoughts
This book just reminds me of those adorable Hallmark movies. I could definitely see this book made into a movie! Also, though this book is a love-inspired Christian book, there wasn’t too much scripture or religion written in the book. Therefore, I think a wide audience would enjoy this book.
I adored Alfie. He was such a cute kid. He was definitely Ryan’s kid. Like Ryan, he was gifted and smart. He was well advanced his age and struggled at school. Ryan was there for him and helped him through those difficult days. They immediately bonded and it was too cute to read.
This book’s whole theme was forgiveness. Ryan had to forgive Mellie for not telling him for 10 years that Alfie was his son. And robbed him of those years of not being with his son. What was most important though is that he was able to find out and had the immediate opportunity to become a father. Mellie also had to forgive herself for not telling Ryan, especially Alfie.
Overall, this was such a heartwarming book, perfect for those crisp fall days with a cup of cocoa!
Please Note- I was sent a copy of this book to review from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed reading The Forever Farmhouse. From the beginning the characters are wonderfully engaging, evoking all the emotions in me.
Ryan is such a sweetheart. Having gone through what he’s gone through in his past you would think that he would hold onto bitterness and anger, but he’s instead channeled his feelings for good, and is hoping to make a difference to the island that is home. Hearing about the abuse is gut-wrenching, but it also shows how far he’s come, and made me love him all the more.
Mellie is the literal girl next door that Ryan deserted after they spent one magical night together. What Ryan doesn’t realize is something was created that night, a secret that Mellie’s kept for many years, and it is this secret that is both a blessing and a curse. Mellie is a lovable character, but the longer she holds onto this huge secret the more I found myself resenting her and her fear. I found myself whispering to myself, “Haven’t you ever heard of the truth setting you free?” I know this is easier said than done, and that the secret is supposed to be what keeps the reader in suspense, but honestly I felt like the more drawn out it was the more it hindered this otherwise flawless narrative for me.
The romance is a slow burn, but I was ok with that, especially with my waning feelings about Mellie. I understood her motivations, but if you truly love someone wouldn’t you want to be completely honest with them no matter what?
Alfie was definitely the sunshine in this story, but I also adored Ryan and Betty. My grandmother lost my grandfather almost a year ago and seeing what Betty went through eerily mirrors my grandmother’s journey. The strength to go on after losing the love of your life is a long, slow process, and seeing Betty grapple with her new existence is powerful.
I do love the air of community and support that this small town brings to this character-driven novel. I do feel like it was a tad on the wordy side, especially when I started to notice things being repeated over and over, so there were moments that I caught myself skimming, but other than those brief moments I was completely engaged. The overall novel is pretty subdued, a sort of sweet sadness shrouding the entire story, but it was a calming read that was exactly the escape that I needed.
*I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I received from the author/publisher through JustRead Tours. All views and opinions expressed are completely honest, and my own.
There's something charming about small-town stories, and this one fits the bill. There is a great sense of community in this second-chance romance story. Though the romance angle in this one was a bit more than I generally read, it was an enjoyable book overall.
Ryan is an easy character to like and root for, especially after learning about his past as a foster child with an abusive stepfather. The author did a nice job of showing the emotional scars without going into a lot of dark details.
Mellie, too, is relatable and easy to root for, and her son, Alfie, stole the scenes. He was a nice addition to the story, and it's nice to see the development in his relationship with Ryan.
The romance angle is a slow burn, and rekindled love, forgiveness, reconciliation, and family are all key topics.
Possible trigger warnings: childhood abuse, abandonment, unplanned pregnancy, death, and mental health issues.
Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review.
McClain has once again written a fantastic novel that deals with some hard subjects. This book will keep you interested in it the whole way through with lots of surprises. Great characters that I enjoyed in getting to know and I loved the setting of this novel. I was happy to find this book. This author does a wonderful job in bringing her characters to life. I'm very glad that she doesn't make her characters perfect. I loved Alfie! He's such a wonderful character. He quickly became my favorite. He reminds me of my own son at that age. Brought back some fond memories of my son growing up. In my opinion he stole the show. The cover of the book goes with the story inside perfectly. The house on the front is my picture perfect dream home! Contemporary romance at its finest. 5 stars for a job well done! I highly recommend! My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
I enjoy Contemporary Romance books, especially when they are in a Small Town setting. The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain is Book 1 in the Hometown Brothers series. I have read a couple of Lee Tobin McClain's other series and I have enjoyed them.
Ryan Hastings has returned to Teaberry Island to check on his widowed Foster Mother. He used to live there as a troubled teen and his foster mother helped him greatly. He is now an adult and a renowned Scientist, and he has definitely matured. He still has feelings for the neighbor, Mellie Anderson, the girl he used to date before moving away. Ryan would love to rekindle the relationship they used to have, but he believes he might not be worthy of her love again. Mellie Anderson has a son and Ryan sees he is getting bullied at his school, so Ryan decides to mentor Alfie. Mellie is so happy that Ryan is in Alfie's life, but she has a secret she has been keeping from Ryan about Alfie. Will Mellie tell Ryan that Alfie is actually his biological son? How will Ryan react? Is there a chance for a Rekindled romance?
I really enjoyed this "Second Chance Romance" book. It did start out a little slow, I finally got the storyline in Chapter 2. My favorite character is Ryan. He has such a gentle and caring heart for everyone. He had a rough upbringing but he certainly has overcome a lot. I LOVE how he takes Alfie under his care and helps him through rough patches. Mellie is struggling as she really loves that Alfie has a male figure in his life, but she also wants to tell Ryan about Alfie. I LOVE the Small Town setting of this book. The book is one of forgiveness, moving forward and family. GREAT BOOK!
The Forever Farmhouse is the first book in the new Hometown Brothers series... and it most certainly has me excited to see more from this series!
We all know that we aren't supposed to judge a book by it's cover... and this one is really a prime example as to why. Looking at the book, it looks like merely a lighthearted romance. While the romance part may certainly be true, this story actually takes on a variety of much more difficult topics like an unplanned pregnancy, child abuse, depression and loss of a spouse. All of these topics were covered with grace, so while I certainly didn't feel like anything was sugarcoated, I definitely felt like it was kept from being too dark. While I certainly might not have agreed with the decisions of several of the characters, it added to the genuine feeling of the story that I really enjoyed.
If you enjoy a good small town romance with a lot of heart, this is certainly one to check out. I enjoyed this first book very much, and find myself anxiously awaiting to see what happens in book number two!
**Complimentary copy received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.
The Forever Farmhouse is the first book in the new Hometown Brothers series which is based on three foster boys’ homecoming to Teaberry Island. Betty and Wayne Raines were unable to have children of their own, so they fostered troubled teenage boys at their farmhouse on the shoreline of Teaberry Island. They provided Ryan, Cody, and Luis with a place to heal and find themselves. This was Mellie and Ryan’s homecoming story. Years prior Ryan Hasting had panicked and left the island after he spent one night with will Mellie. He never got over his love for Mellie so when he returns home to check on Betty all those feelings returned. He found himself hoping for another chance but the truth about Mellie’s son changes everything. Mellie Anderson’s heart was broken after Ryan ran after their one night together. When he returns to the island years later, she struggles with the decision she made years ago. She knows Alfie, her brilliant son, needs Ryan’s guidance but to keep her secret she needs to avoid him. Mellie was so a sweet character and she truly thought she was protecting her son by keeping the truth from Ryan. She realizes her mistake and wants to tell him the truth but is afraid of losing him a second time. Can they overcome their fears and anger for a second chance at love? This is a charming small-town romance that will give you all the fell goods and leave you smiling. It was beautifully written with an entertaining storyline. The characters were genuine and likable. I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for Cody’s story which will be next. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I’m a huge fan of small town stories. I think they’re adorable, and I love the community aspect of them. And this is a sweet small town second chance story. It was more intense than I was expecting, but it was still really cute! I loved Ryan! He was such a sweetheart, and I felt so bad for him as you learned more about his past. He was a foster kid who had an abusive stepfather. McClain doesn’t give a lot of details, but he was beaten often and shoved into dark spaces for hours upon end. Even though he has a huge heart, he thinks he’s emotionally damaged. He believes he can’t do relationships, yet Mellie and Alfie make him want to try. Mellie was struggling, and she didn’t know what to do. She wanted to protect her son, but she also wanted to protect herself. She didn’t want to get hurt again. Mellie was definitely a caretaker and a sweet character. I felt like she was understandable, so I didn’t end up resenting her for not telling Ryan about Alfie. Alfie was so much fun! I love books with kids in them, but I feel like generally they’re a lot younger. Alfie is ten and incredibly smart, so he added a different flavor to the book. It was sweet to watch him bond with Ryan. He also adored Betty, Ryan’s foster mom. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Betty honestly. I understood her grief, but there were many times when it felt like she was acting like a 20 year old. I think this is a cute romance about the importance of second chances. It was a bit more drama filled than I was expecting, but it was still really good! There is one moment where Alfie flips off his mom, but otherwise this is a clean read. I would recommend it for fans of romantic dramas :)
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.
I really enjoy reading small town stories and this one was a pretty good one. I also enjoy the second chance romance trope so I definitely enjoyed this aspect of the story. Being that this is the first book in the series we are introduced to quite a few characters and there was a good amount of background story telling that I am hoping will continue in the rest of the series. The story however, revolves around the lives of Ryan, Mellie and young Alfie.
The premise of the story I thought was a strong one but there were times that it lost my interest. I think the romance part between the two characters was extremely slow and at times their issues were a bit repetitive. That being said both characters were well written. Ryan definitely made a gallant leading man and Mellie is the sweet girl next door who has never forgotten him and also has Alfie which is a reminder of the past and what could be.
The resolution of the story was good and definitely led to not only a happy ending but open for you to eagerly await the next book in the series!
This was my first book by this author. It is definitely a clean sweet romance. If you are looking for an sweet romance for a little escape then this is a great book to pick up!
I received a digital copy of this book through Just Read. I was not required to post a positive review. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Ryan has loved Mellie since they were in school When Mellie and her young son return to Teaberry Island he finds he still loves her but now the nerdy Ryan is a famous scientist. Young Alfie is a nerd too and kids at the new school are making him miserable. Mellie has hidden the fact that Alfie is Ryan's son and soon they need to work together to help the young boy survive. Will he be able to forgive her for keeping this secret.
Best book ever! Scoop up a fresh batch of teaberry ice cream and buckle up for a ride! This will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. From hunks to junkyards to scientists to pie in fists (I’m pretty sure people eat pie at some point lololol), this is a book for everyone. Honestly I think they should teach this in high school English class. It was THAT good
If I had written this review after reading the first hundred pages or so, I might have given it five stars. The characters are appealing and the setting, an island in Chesapeake Bay is pleasant. The secret is all too obvious right from the start. As with all romance novels the reader knows to expect a happy ending. The question is, how the couple gets there. I wound up liking a secondary character, Betty, much better than I lied the main character, Mellie, who is pretty one-dimensional--a mommy with a "terrible secret." The secret isn't really terrible, what's terrible is not telling it to the person to whom it matters most. Betty has some spirit. Mellie is too good to be true. The hero, Ryan, isn't much more developed than Mellie. After those first hundred pages, the book got repetitive and tedious. Too much of "Should I tell or should I not tell?? What will happen if I tell? What will happen if I don't tell?" Adults expecting another adult to act like teenagers and teenagers expected to act like adults. After a while, it got to the point where I was looking to see how many pages were left to read, not because I didn't want the book to end but because I couldn't wait for it to end. The end seemed phony. At times the author forgot plot points and which character was which. By the end, she had Jimmy as a boy when earlier he was a grown man. I guess it's possible to have a farmhouse without a farm but the author could at least have included a couple of chickens. This would have been a better book if it were a hundred pages shorter.
Quick Summary: Rekindled love after a significant separation
My Review: The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain was a second chance romance. This story dealt with several heavy issues, such as childhood abuse, abandonment, unplanned pregnancy, death, mental health issues, and widowhood.
About the Main Characters: R, a scientist with a troubled past, had an encounter with M, a kind and compassionate woman with a secret, when they were young. Because of his violent upbringing, R withdrew from M, leaving her devastated and alone. Soon, she harbored a secret that changed her life plans. After years passed, her secret was exposed. Just as the secret was revealed, so were their true feelings for each other.
Although the love story between R and M was the main focus of this novel, there were several other side stories that were presented. The side stories hinted at the lives of R's foster mother, his foster brothers, and some townsfolk.
My Final Say: This book featured an incredibly slow to low burn love story. It was all about rekindled love, the power of forgiveness, reconciliation, and family. It will appeal to those who desire a clean, issue-driven romance and for those who enjoy reading a friends to partners match.
Rating: 2.75 to 3-/5 Recommend: Yes Audience: A
