Help: A Survival Guide For Life

Rate this book
Part autobiography, part comedy, HELP Is a survival guide for life from Katie Hopkins.

Laugh-out-loud funny, the 'biggest bitch in Britain' lays bare her life, exposing her many private and public failings and how she has survived them.

With tactics for keeping going, new ways of thinking about problems that seem too big to handle and strategies for coping with unkindness, especially online, HELP Is here to do just that.

Whether it's your college mates, job, sex-life, marriage, kids or social media that's making you want to shove your head in a blender, HELP wiil give you fresh eyes to see things differently.

Katie Hopkins does not hold back. Loved and loathed in equal measure, she has faced more personal dramas than the Real Housewives — all of them.

Because of her uncompromising views she has faced unprecedented attacks from governments, the media and the mob. She was deported from Australia, banned from South Africa, has a fatwa on her head from Pakistan.

She survived brain surgery that nearly ended her life, she lost a High Court case that cost her the family home and was a target of a jihadi plot to behead her.

Hopkins knows how it feels to be floored. But, she just keeps getting back up, and she has prevailed. What's more, she still has a sense of humour.

Written in response to all those asking how she does it, she is on a one-woman crusade to help people feel better about themselves.

When you really think you can't face your own life any more, or want to throw yourself on the floor and scream like a three year old in a supermarket, HELP will pick you up, dust you off and get you back on your feet again.

Love her, hate her, this is a must-read for anyone who is struggling. Don't try and do it on your own, reach for HELP.

No, I am not politically aligned with this author (tbh I’m not a very political person, so I only know her beliefs on a very surface level)—but this book was exactly what I needed in life right now. I’m a lost soul who has no idea what I’m doing , and this book spoke to me as such and met me where I am. It’s a collection of essays detailing all her colossal fuck-ups concluding with life lessons on how to laugh through the pain (cuz sometimes that’s all you can do) and, well, SURVIVE this shitshow we call life on planet earth.

This is the book everyone should read regardless of your opinion on the author as there is advice for all here no matter your perspective. I picked it up because she saved my life during lockdown with Katie’s arms.

I excepted a lot of things when I picked it up. I expected to suck air through my teeth at some of her opinions, to laugh uncontrollable but I didn’t expect to cry ugly tears.

I didn’t cry at the quality of the writing but at Chapter 8. I won’t spoil it for but I will just say that Katie and me have something in common, she is also the mother of a unique gifted girl and the words she says are truly beautiful and inspiring.

Others will comment on other chapters they like more and that’s the beauty of this masterpiece it has something for everyone.

If you like Katie Hopkins buy the book, if you don’t like her buy the book. If you have believed all the rubbish written about her in the media, definitely buy the book.

This is a woman who has withstood it all with humour and good old British grit. Put your prejudice aside and pick up a copy you will not be disappointed.

First I dont read books like this, honestly I tend to just read the fantasy book cause they allow me to escape the world. But I decided to give this one a try cause Katie says it like it is. And I tend to align with her thinking. This book offers so many amazing little antidotes to life. This one to reread again and again.

Brilliant

True hopkins style writing. Absolutely laughed and almost wet myself at some points in this book. Love the humour when we need it the most.

Katie Hopkins is something of a divisive personality. She can induce extreme forms of reaction from those who adore her and from those who hate her. There is definitely a TV personality that she adopts, but I wonder how much of that is the real her. How much of that is to massage upwards the TV ratings? It was with these questions in my kind that I approached this book - what would it tell me about Katie Hopkins?

The first thing that I found was that, despite finding her TV persona appalling, I actually quite liked the Katie Hopkins I found in the book - the book Katie. The TV Katie is very brash and abrasive. The book Katie is a bit more nuanced, a little less certain of herself, a little more open to comment. I quite liked that. I quite like that she admits to writing a self-help book that doesn't have all of the answers. That sometimes we just have to make things up as we go along. That sometimes the best plan is to just aim to muddle through. There is something comforting for me to read this because that is how I have spent much of my life - getting by and muddling through.

There is very little politics in this book. When politics does make an appearance, TV Katie takes over and she becomes a bit of a dick. However, this book is not about politics, it's about human coping, and that's where it's strength lies. The author speaks from experience. She has coped with a life that seems to have been a bit chaotic and dysfunctional at times. She manages to get herself into a number of scrapes, but then she gets out of them again. Good for her. What comes out in her writing is her irrepressible spirit, and that has to be applauded.

On the whole, I quite liked the book. There are parts where we simply face-palm because the muddle appears so immense. However, just taking one thing at a time manages to work. Dealing with those things you can influence (and not worrying about things out of your control) has an impact. Just continuing to move forward has a cumulative effect. Much of this is self-belief, and if this book gives a bit of self-belief to those who have little, then it will have been worth producing.

A little R and R....

Not talking rest and relaxation- but raw and real. Helpful in so many ways, wish this book had been around when I was a teenager! But no matter, I am now 60 and still found tremendous value and wisdom in reading it. At times I was laughing out loud, sometimes I had tears streaming down my cheeks. Other times I was thinking or yelling out loud " you go, girl!!" So many times I saw myself in Katie's words and in that seeing, I also let go of a lot of sh*t that I was still carrying with me. Much gratitude to you, Katie for what you do. Thank you and God Bless!

I had the pleasure of hearing Katie speak and meeting her a few months ago. I hadn't laughed that hard since before Covid! Katie's humor is blunt and a bit crass at times, which makes her so gloriously unique and bold! I love her messages in this book. She is unafraid to speak her mind, and much of what she has to say, while laugh out loud funny, is also extremely wise and inspiring. I plan to give this book to my adult daughter to read.

Wit, Wisdom and Irreverence

If you enjoyed reading ‘Rude’ you’ll love this.

This book has been out since December 2021 but big tech’s Joe-Biden loving, zero-carbon pushing, Hunter Biden protecting algorithms decided to try hide it from me until it popped up on my Amazon feed a couple of days ago.

Great read. Laugh out loud funny. Highly recommended.

Humanises her. But needlessly mean. Full of advice to toughen up and do things 'like a man' ...
Raises question of how someone who's been through so much still chooses nastiness at every turn

Update: 28.10.23- Finished this book, for the second time of rereading it, still a brilliant book. I took my time on reading it and absorbing in the information that Katie spoke about and knowing that whatever you say, you have to stand up on your two feet and just stick with what you know. Keep fighting on.

A fabulous book! Brutally honest and just speaks truth about life, and how you should take on board with it. Katie Hopkins you are a genius! Read this in a day and a bit, just wonderfully written, and fast flowing, just like watching her talk on Instagram about anything that's going on in the world. You may not like her as a person, but give this book a go, and you'll thank me later, trust me.
