New allies are found by Tom and Samantha in their journey to get home, but the cost to reach the rest of their family may be higher than either one of them wish to pay. Meanwhile, the rest of the family struggle against the encroaching cold and a new, sinister foe in Epoch’s End Book 3.
In the North Atlantic, a massive fissure in the sea floor has opened up, and an underground reservoir is releasing quadrillions of gallons of water into the oceans.
A dozen Naval ships investigating this strange anomaly are sunk, leaving one scientist and his daughter as the only survivors.
As unforeseen consequences spread from the anomalous rupture, those on both land and sea are faced with the reality that life in the world is rapidly changing as the current epoch ends… and a new one begins.
Epoch’s End Book 3. A good read lots going on. I can’t even imagine being in a storm like that, living in California we barley even get a winter. We would never make it though something like this. I can’t wait to read the next book, and find out if they get their family back and if he ends up doing what Banks wants. Thank guys for another great book.
This has generally been an interesting series up to this book. There are some editing issues but I'm more bothered by the depiction of the military and the government as generally evil guys. I had thought Banks was in the Navy, commanding a mission on a ship, but she is continually ranked as a Lt Colonel. There is a disaster that threatens the northern hemisphere, the US, Canada and Mexico in particular, but most of the military people in conference with the president are Colonels, Lt Colonels and one scientist. Really, is this the best you have???? And if we don't get the one guy that is a contractor, the world is doomed? Not at all feasible. Canada and Mexico are allies, yet we are wasting resources fighting both. Diplomacy? Nope, just annex Mexico. The military are portrayed as a bunch of thugs, forcing people at gunpoint to evacuate and if that doesn't work, take their kids to make them compliant. They would not have time to waste on that. Mandatory evacuation means you try to get people to leave, give them a way to go, but if they don't want to evacuate, move on. You don't waste time, bullets and energy just shooting at them. The authorities try to trick Tom into coming with them and when that fails, kill a bunch of innocent people and threaten the family. Get this one guy at all costs. The FBI and government is not this homicidal, not even in a disaster and there would be a team of scientists, high rank officers etc working on this. This is way off base at this point. I'm kind of interested in what happens but rather disgusted as to how this is unfolding.
Mike Kraus continues his riveting Epoch's End Series with Book 3, Retreat, that sees two halves of the McKnight family doing all they can against the odds, to survive and be reunited.
Barbara McKnight, her children and their friends the Everetts, face-off against an Army convoy that's trying to force them to evacuate the family's farm, using the current martial law to enforce it. Who becomes a casualty in the standoff?
Who is Keith and why was he at the camp? Where do Tom and daughter Sam meet Guy? As the vestiges of civilisation fall away, it takes desperate measures for those who are left on the outside to survive the extreme weather conditions. As Sam and her father finally make it home, what are they stunned to find? How will they resolve it?
A riveting part 3, Retreat is proved to be an apt title - it is better to do so, tactically and live to fight another day - and we can be sure the McKnight family will fight back with everything and anything!
Another epic addition to the adventure that is Epoch’s End Book series! I was very pleased to see some new characters introduced, and a bit more active direction - as opposed to chapters and chapters of Barbara’s day to day ‘house and farm survival tactics’. Indeed the story sped up so well I found myself clicking (reading on a kindle) page after page to discover what happens next well into the night!
I find myself often thinking how unprepared I would be for such an event 🙈
What a great book, This kept me up all night, it is so intense, you just can't put it down until you know what is going to happen. While Tom and his eldest daughter Sam are fighting extreme freezing weather to get home to his wife and children, the government have sent a mad man to capture him using any force necessary. One crazy government official who has a problem with Tom, thinks he is the answer to saving the world.
I am enjoying the series so far. There's about 6-8 typos and missing text. Although they didn't distract too much like the first book did, I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. I'd stay away from the Mexico invasion though, it really made me angry. I hope that Keith and Banks get what's coming to them.
Enlightening and will keep you reading to the end.
Trying to get home to your family makes Tom go to any length, including his daughter while trying to evade military trying to bring him in. They think he can stop what is happening with the weather. Will they catch him or his wife and family?
This third book in the Epoch’s End series keeps the pressure on to deal with this earth changing event and keep our characters alive. Despite the great story, it felt like the typical error free editing was missing to the point that it actually was distracting. I also felt that several of the character actions were hard to justify. Even with all that I gave Book 3 a solid 4 stars and look forward to the next book.
This series deserves more than 5 stars. It is a series that totally emerges the reader in a non-stop, action packed adventure with the McKnight family, their trials to survive the onslaught of apocalyptic event. They are fully prepared the the disaster but nothing can prepare them to have a battle with Feds hunting them and kidnapping their children.
I was filled with lots of emotions in this book, including anger at the bad people who forced children into some situations. Evil is real and children get hurt sometimes even when they have good parents. I was rooting with every fiber for the parents and how they handled themselves!
Absolutely loving this series I accidentally stumbled across, found this one really frustrating, mostly in a good way! So much going on i could feel the characters stress. So many twists and turns, some more brutal than I expected or wanted but this is what makes you keep on reading it. Ready for the next one!
This book pulls you in from page one and doesn't let go until the very last page. I can't wait until book 4 to see how Tom and Samantha get their family back and take care of Keith.
For the most I love all of the authors books. One thing bothers me regarding all books in this genre. It seems as though the husband/father is never home. David husband/father always seems to be out saving someone or something else.
This was a very good book. Gripping third book in series. Can’t wait to read the fourth book! Mike Kraus is a very good Author. He really knows how to write a story that keeps you wanting to read more.
Boy, this is really an awesome series! Getting better and better. I can see how the government we have would stoop as low as they would to get their way. But time is running out for a ruling body or government that deprives the people of their rights! The time is nigh.
Retreat, the third book in the Epoch’s End series, is chock full of danger, the stress of survival, the importance of family, and war. Absolutely brilliant and it has an incredible cliffhanger!
Aaarrggh what a book, what an ending, I’m left screaming. Exciting, enthralling. What’s going to happen next to any of the family. It just keeps you going.
I read late into the night to finish Retreat, because it had me on the edge of my seat (bed ). So much happening to Tom and Barbara that I kept holding my breath. Brilliant series ! Loving it. Onto book 4.
Not the typical storyline for this author. The Idea that the military would waste resources forcing people to excavate , just crazy! And now the story turns fairly dark. Not liking this one at all
Amateurish and boring like all of Mikes books. The characters are all predictable and Mike has no creativity when telling a story. No surprises. No twist. Perfect book if you want to read to go to sleep.
Once again the author has created a superb book that draws you into the story. To survive is the important thing and it’s definitely not easy. You feel as if you’re on the journey.
Tom and Sam have been through alot. This is edge of your seat time. It's going to get real from here on out. Can't wait for the next book to see what happens.
This is a great set of books 1 dragged you in 2 set the hook and 3 has you hook line and sinker can't waits for 4 & 5 great read couldn't put it down I am on to the next set of his books
