Bird & Squirrel go treasure-hunting after finding a note from Gopher Gosford in a locked treasure chest. This time, Red and Birdie get to come along. This gives Squirrel a hefty dose of anxiety so he compensates by creating "Squirrel's Perfectly Safe Treasure-Hunting Itinerary." Bird promptly eats his copy. This book has some of the great villains and tropes from the whole series. In the end, the memories they have created together are the treasure. I have loved following this odd couple duo through all their adventures. If you haven't read any of the books in this series yet, just try Bird & Squirrel on the Run, I think you'll be hooked.

I love this finale to a great series. Every year I have a few fourth graders that fall in love with Bird & Squirrel and thus fall in love with reading. Thank you James Burks for creating these awesome books. I will miss new Bird & Squirrel adventures and their great friendship.

I'm in a bit of denial with this one because it says "final adventure" on the back cover... please James Burks, say it isn't so! But if this truly is the last Bird and Squirrel, it at least goes out in grins, laughs, and giggles, and maybe your heart feels a little warmer at the end.

Bird and Squirrel find a treasure map, but Squirrel doesn't want to endanger Red or Birdie in the perils of a treasure hunt. Red and Birdie have their own ideas, though, and soon all of them are off following the clues to legendary adventurer Gopher Gosford's treasure. And all the while Bird is working up the courage to tell his friends something important.
Aww, so sad to see this series come to an end. But Burks has left it open enough he could definitely come back to it if inspiration strikes. It is very fun to have Red and Birdie along. And some critters from past adventures make a reappearance. There are little puzzles for the gang to solve along the hunt that readers can solve with them. And the treasure is not a materialistic one. A feel good finish to this amazing graphic novel series.
Notes on content: No language issues. No sexual content. There are perilous situations but friends help friends out of them.

August 16, 2024Sage picked this graphic novel off of the library display yesterday and we decided to try it out. Cute story and it was fun, bright, and engaging enough to keep my 2 1/2 year olds attention. Not made for her age, but if it can keep a toddlers attention it must be a fun story. We finished it in just two sittings.

What a fitting ending to this series. The whole gang go on an adventure to find a treasure. They solve clues along the way, meet up with old friends and old foes, and realize that life is all about the journey.

Ohhh the last one. Sweet, nostalgic, and fitting. I loved the brief recaps of previous adventures tucked in the story. The ending is great.

Bird and Squirrel discover a treasure map and Bird insists that they give it a go. Squirrel however, is hesitant, and doesn't want to put the safety of Red and Birdie at risk. With his mind made up, Squirrel decides that they will not go on this treasure hunt. Red and Birdie, on the other hand, have their own minds made up that nothing will keep them back. So the foursome set out on a humor filled quest to find the treasure. With puzzles along the way for them to solve, will they find the treasure the seek? Bird is also trying to tell Squirrel something important throughout the book, but stops short of saying what it is until the very end. What news does Bird have to say?
This was such a feel good and positive story of how these four show care for one another, are willing to sacrifice and protect one another, work together, and ultimately support one another to the very end. What a great way to end this series. But will it really end? There's some wiggle room in the ending that it doesn't have to really be over.

The entire squirrel family heads out on adventure with Bird in this new book in the series. Bird and Squirrel find a treasure chest and force it open to find a treasure map and a clue from the famous explorer, Gopher Gosford. After a bit of a rocky start, Squirrel agrees that his family can join the fun. Bear and Cat return to assist and cause mischief respectively. Brightly colored illustrations support the dialogue. At the end, readers see Bird head out on a solo adventure and the Squirrel family set off to find another adventure together. I love the Eleanor Roosevelt quote to end the book.

Another fun Bird and Squirrel but I have to say that I am a little sad that this may be the last in the series. It ends on a relatively good note, although some littles may need to talk through their feelings if they are really into the characters.
I didn't give this 5 stars because it was still a bit choppy in parts for me like Burks was trying to jam in as much as possible and not thinking through how to get from A to B, despite it being a treasure hunt story.
Artwork is, as always, nice, and some characters come back as a bit of an homage to the previous volumes.

My students love this series so I picked this one up to check it out for myself. I was pleased with a nice mix of adventure, humor, and like-able characters. The clues in the story were fun and it has a positive message. A great graphic novel choice for grades 2-5.

In their last adventure, Bird and Squirrel are joined by Squirrel's family (wife Red and daughter Birdie). Bird and Squirrel find a treasure map and all four go to find the treasure. As always adventure and humor follow.

My son and I have been reading Bird and Squirrel together for over two years now, and finally read this final installment. No exaggeration to say we both had tears by the end.
But that isn't to say that this book is any more serious or less hilarious than the previous ones!!

Treasure hunt caper. Return of a couple old characters.
After everything Squirrel has successfully been through, it was odd to see him regress into full panic mode. But some of this was more a comment on how much he loves and wants to protect his family. Family can make a person (or squirrel) more cautious.
Regardless of the possibly out of character moment for Squirrel, the book is entertaining. I love a good caper / treasure hunt story. The gags were silly. The timing was perfect. The art was beautiful.
