A Fresh and Engaging Approach to Solving Real-World Problems!

I have to admit, I am not one for “games” when it comes to dealing with problems. However, it wasn’t long into reading the first chapter that I found myself rethinking the ways I approach planning, problem solving, and innovation.

The authors provide intriguing avenues for the reader to “zoom out” and reflect on big picture ideas. Their approach is not only effective, but it offers a much-needed departure from the stagnant status-quo processes often used in the professional world. The book feels particularly well-timed as many organizations are working hard to emerge stronger in a post-pandemic world.

The book is divided into three segments. The first part allows the reader to take a moment to contemplate, call out the “whopper of a problem” that is holding them back, and set the stage and ground rules for how to inspire new and effective pathways. The second section, readers are provided five lenses of innovation. This is the metaphorical “rubber meeting the road” for readers including several compelling exercises to identify vision and purpose. The final part of the book focuses on the art of facilitating a team through processes and creating a thrilling proposal.

This book transforms. I look forward to trying these ideas out with my organization!

Lance LaDuke is a wonderful, innovative music colleague of mine. When I heard he was working on this book, I expected that it would be accessible, actionable, and, if Lance had anything to do with it, a lot of fun. The Game of Innovation is all of that and more.

With innovation being such a buzz word these days, I appreciated that the authors defined it early (“extraordinary problem solving”) and encourage each of us to be innovators. The acronym of “GAME” strikes the more fun, creative approach they have to problem solving, but they also have well-defined steps that are critical to the process.

The design of this book is absolutely infectious. The illustrations and playful designs help the big ideas sink in in a more light-hearted way. You can imagine meetings with these innovative authors would be the same way – fun, imaginative, but focused on solving the extraordinary problems of our day.

It's got some great exercises for people who do corporate training. It's a leadership book and an innovation book. Not for everyone but it has value for team building in creative and illustrative ways.
