Being a single mother living check to check is definitely not how Kyndal envisioned her life at 28 years old. When she started dating the love of her life Dorian at 16, she knew their story was going to have a fairytale ending until her reality slapped her in the face and has her questioning what’s her next step. Her son Dorian and daughter Journeigh, saw her trying and was willing to do what they could to pitch in even if it meant asking Santa to bless Mommy for Christmas instead of them. Life wasn’t always easy for Makhai, but he didn’t let that stop him from grinding and hustling to earn his way to the top. He didn’t like the bottom and refused to stay there no matter how much he had to sacrifice. Now at the age of 28, he had everything he needed. A beautiful daughter, a healthy mother, enough money to last generations, and a baby momma that was more of a headache than an actual help to him. As long as his money, mother, and his daughter was good, so was he. Life places Kyndal in Makhai’s path and the two don’t start off on great terms due to the circumstances. Little did they know, they were both apart of Journeigh’s Christmas wish.
Um, I didn't hate it. To be clear, this is not a love story. It's story about single mother Kyndal, trying to raise her kids and making ends meet and single father Makhai, AKA Money, getting shíť done. We barely even got a kiss in the story. But Mikhai showed up for Kyndal right when she needed it the most. Money was a real good dude, and loyal af. I will say this, Kyndal and money were great parents. Especially Kyndal. I usually don't like those "hood" stories. I've been trying to be more open to them, but this one didn't do it for me. Though I didn't hate it, I didn't love it either. But the sentiment of the story was nice.
DNF @39%. Not to sound pretentious but, what the actual fuck is this writing?? I get using AAVE but the grammar was all off, sentence structures too and the slang got on my fuckin nerves. I read ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Charles Dickens the other day and going from that book, to this was just felt like whiplash. Here’s an example at how ridiculous the writing is
“It’s like the minute I pulled up, hoes and niggas smelled me and was trying to either fucked or get put on, and I was looking for neither one. My team was solid and if I needed a nut, I knew who to call.”
Hoes and niggas? Really? And the men in this story are fuckin low life’s. They have no respect for women. They joke about domestic violence against women, cheating on their women, the main love interest joked to his mom that he was going to sell his baby momma to a pimp. And I’m supposed to like him? He chocked his baby momma and threatened to kill her on page in the beginning. It’s not attractive or giving BDE so I’m DNFing at 39%. The two love interest still haven’t even met yet. I couldn’t take the fuckin AAVE anymore. There’s a way to use it without sounded uneducated.
Mrs. Shay I have to tell you that I love to see when authors grow. This Christmas novella is most definitely growth of the last novel I read by you. I enjoyed Makhai and Kyndal's story, it was the kids that brought it all together. I am looking forward to reading more of the lovely couple. I want to know what Kyndal have enrolled in school to do. I think the two of them together is going to be quite the "power" couple. I am convinced that if Makhai loved and given to the wrong one, he will surely open the floodgates for the right one. Kyndal is his right one.
This is a great read, you will enjoy it. It's a Christmas story with a strong urban twist. The kids alone will just draw you in. The girls and their strong personalities are too cute, but it worked when they wanted something. DJ is the big brother to them both, he is going to always be over protective you can just tell. I highly suggest this read, download and indulge.
Okay, that Dear Santa letter on the first page almost took me out! Then to find out what happened to Dorian, and the hardships that Kyndal is going through! Whew, I had to take a minute! Kyndal’s kids knew she was having it rough, and they tried to do all that they could to help her. DJ, was mature for his age, but it was dangerous as hell for him to pull the stunt that he did! Thank God that Makhai had a heart, and wanted to help him, rather than put him in harm’s way. Makhai was a good dude, that fell for the wrong woman; and was now paying the price. That first meeting between Kyndal and Makhai was explosive! I was not sure how this was going to turn out, but kids have a way of bringing things together. The five of them quickly connected, and started moving as a unit. Can’t wait to see what becomes of these two, with the upcoming Valentine’s Day story! Good read! 👍👍👍
This was a great book. I would have loved to see more develop between Kyndal and Makai in this book. I understand it was a novella but the two didn't link up until the very end which left me hanging on how thing's started and grew with them. I will definitely have to read the Valentine's novella to follow up on their story. Makai was a great guy. I like how he supported DJ in a positive way and functioned more as a mentor and kept him away from the street life. His baby momma was horrible and got what she deserved. So glad Makai decided to take a chance on love.
Kyndal was doing her thing as a single mother and only wanted the best for her kids. Even if that meant quitting her job which she worked overnight to put more time in with her kids. Things worked out in her favor when she met her Prince Charming right on time.
This was a really good short holiday story. There were quite a few mistakes throughout which is why I had to take away a star. If this is ever edited and re-released it will move from good to great. Wonderful characters, dialogue, and plot. I can't wait to read more from this author.
I loved it. I don't normally read Christmas themed books or shorts but this one was so cute. It gave me all the feels and I couldn't stop smiling while reading it. Awesome job!
I can’t lie at first I didn’t expect this book to be this good but it was, I love stand-alone books but I wouldn’t even be mad if you made this into a series. I enjoyed this book so much and I’m glad you recommended it for me
Krystal Shay is one of my most favorite go to for romance. She never let's me down when it comes to a great read. If your looking for a great story I highly recommend this book.
Such a fell good read!! I have so much admiration for Money... He won me over by looking out for DJ instead of sending him to the wolves! I also enjoyed watching Kendal and Money relationship blossom!
When a child writes a letter to Santa their desires should be fulfilled if at all possible. Little Journeying was serious. Can't wait to get the next Episode of their life. Great read.
From the beginning to the end I couldn’t put this book down this is a must read I didn’t want it to end I’ll be looking for more good reads from you Krystal hopefully more from these featured in this book awesome job
This book held my attention from the beginning to the end. Jouneigh prayed for what she needed and got it along with much more. Desi was a poor excuse for a mom.
