While I made nowhere near all 101 of these soups, I read enough of the recipes and tried a good sampling to feel good with my critique.
This book is very well organized with a “Broths” section at the beginning and a “Soups” main section of the book. I actually didn’t pay much attention to the broths section but picked out several recipes I had ambitions to make. A big appeal of this cookbook was the beautiful color photographs of each soup. Other pluses include the super easy to read layout of pages and generally easy, manageable ingredients to obtain.
I tried making these recipes:
Lentil Vegetable Chili w Honey-Drizzled Cornbread Dumplings Year Round Corn Chowder Greek Lemon Chicken and Orzo Soup Creamy Coconut Thai Pumpkin Soup
All of these recipes had flavor combinations I should have loved, but they were all lackluster and plain, feeling like they were missing something. From a book claiming to have the best on the planet, I can’t say that I am impressed at this point. I had a few more I wanted to try, but I’ve lost faith that this book can take me as far as my culinary longings want to take me.
Not all bad but not quite good enough. I will seek more recipes elsewhere, but thank you to the authors for the inspiration.
I am in love with this cookbook. This one will be joining my at-home library very soon because I cannot wait to try each and every soup in this book. I cannot rave about this book enough. If you like soup, this is a MUST!
I rented this book from my library and went through every recipe. I ended up creating 10 new recipe cards from it and every recipe I made was a hit. It is THE soup recipe book that you want and need and you really won't want for another soup book after it.
If you like soup, then you will like this cookbook! The recipes I have made have been great so far. My favorite thing about the book: if the recipe can be made in a crock pot, it tells you how; if the recipe can be made vegetarian/vegan, it tells you how. I am vegetarian and the mom of a toddler. I don't have time to stand and cook soup or figure out how to adjust a recipe. This book does the work for me!
I won this in a goodreads giveaway. Best book I've won so far!
I’m not a great cook, but I like making soups because mostly you can toss a lot of things into a pot and have it become something delicious. Almost every one of the soups gets a gorgeous 4-color photo, which is a real treat for this novice cook. There are also plenty of recipes that I will try. The only downer is a lot of the recipes have a vast number of ingredients, and quite a few call for things I won’t normally have on hand and in small portions like 1 stalk of lemongrass. I’ll figure it out, um I hate having to buy a lot of stuff I might not use again or won’t use before it spoils.
