Someone is playing deadly games. Lieutenant Luke Pittman lies in the hospital in a coma after being attacked by one of their own. Veronica Manes, Burning Lake’s most respected modern-day witch, is dead, her murder left unsolved. Natalie Lockhart has become embroiled in a case with threads that become increasingly difficult to untangle.
Now, a new horror is uncovered, one that shocks the town as never before, and the dark, shadowy path forward for Natalie is paved with challenges that haunt her past―Veronica’s unsolved case. Her sister’s traumatic murder. The long-lost disappearance of her old best friend. My thanks to St. Martin's press, Alice Blanchard and Netgalley. I do wish that I had known that this was part of a series. Not only that it was the end of the series, but that there was so much baggage to unpack between them all. So...coming into this as the forth and final book, I was mostly lost. Usually even if I get in on the last book, and find I like it, then I'll order the first books and read them. But, honestly? I was not a fan of the characters or even the writing style. Believe me, it's a rarity to find something from this publisher that I don't like. But..I really didn't like anything about this. Also, the fact that it comes across as a mystery is decieving. It's mystery lite. Mostly though, it's just romance. "Excuse me while I gag!" Not my groove.
Exciting scenes, a twisty plot, and an engaging protagonist will keep readers rapidly turning the pages in The Shadow Girls by Alice Blanchard. The fourth book in this police procedural series continues to feature Detective Natalie Lockhart with the Burning Lake, New York police department. This is a town that makes the most of its history with witchcraft and has a large tourist trade around it that culminates with the Halloween celebration. It’s March, so the town is quieter until police lieutenant Luke Pittman is attacked, Veronica Manes, a modern-day witch is murdered, and a new body is discovered in a costume shop. What is happening in this small tourist town?
Natalie is a protagonist that solved several high-profile murder cases and is questioning her career and her love life. She is strong when she is pursuing leads and has insights that others miss, but she is also overworked. Her character felt real with clear goals for solving the case and believable motivations for why she is questioning her lifestyle. Hunter, the wealthy man she moved in with four months ago, loves her deeply, but is also overprotective and somewhat vulnerable. While he is a successful and shrewd owner of a technology company and exhibits a strong determination to succeed, his vulnerability around his relationship with Natalie seemed uncharacteristic. The secondary characters were well-rounded and enhanced the story.
As in the previous books, the prologue easily hooks readers. The writing is fluid, atmospheric, and descriptive. The world-building enhanced the setting and gave me a clear sense of place. I felt transported to Burning Lake as though living through the events with Natalie.
This novel shines a light on corruption, love, power, friendship, murder, trust, and much more. Blanchard is a superb storyteller who provides compelling characters, a fantastic plot, and gripping scenes in this disturbing story. The tension is high throughout and the suspenseful narrative kept me fully engaged from the beginning to the end.
Overall, this has a riveting and dynamic plot and is a well-crafted story. It is a page-turner with its complex characters, twisty story line, and fantastic writing that keep me coming back to this series for more. I can’t wait to see what is next for Natalie and the town of Burning Lake. To get the most enjoyment from it, the first three books in the series should be read before starting this one. That will give readers a better understanding of Natalie’s situation.

----------------------------------------- My 4.41 rounded to 4 stars review is coming soon.
The Shadow Girls by Alice Blanchard is the fourth novel in the author’s Natalie Lockhart series, a fact of which I was unaware when I downloaded this book.
The novel begins with the discovery of the body of sixty-four-year-old Randolph Holmes in a warehouse where he had been employed. Though his employer praises his work ethic the deceased’s female colleagues were wary of him. Detective Natalie Lockhart leaves the side of her comatose senior officer/friend, who was attacked by one of their colleagues who is now absconding, to attend to the case. Her investigation reveals a sinister side to the deceased and links to other crimes being investigated. The narrative follows Natalie as she investigates several cases which seem to be connected including one involving the disappearance of her best friend more than a decade ago while navigating her personal life and relationship issues.
I loved the premise and the setting of a town known for its “witchy" history, covens and Wiccans and thought the procedural aspect was really well executed, though I thought the drama in the protagonist’s personal life (the romance tracks) messed with the pace of the novel and distracted from the mystery angle. Usually, I don’t have problems picking up a series midway if the story is well-rounded. However, this book does not work as a standalone. There is a strong continuity with the preceding books and I felt that I was missing out on a lot of the backstory and important plot points since the resolution of several previous cases were related to the present one.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the digital review copy. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Natalie Lockhart works a detective in the small town of Burning Lake, New York which is famous for it's incomparably enticing and spectacular Halloween celebrations in the U.S. and people come from all over to see and take part in all the festivities that Burning Lake has to offer with all of the uniquely charming and whimsical shops that are run and owned by real modern day witches. The town still has many covens of witches who practice and deal in white magic magic with their healing herbs and potions etc. Natalie has gained unwanted notoriety with the last two cases she solved that has left her with a lot of emotional and psychological baggage which has left her seriously thinking of leaving the police department.
Before Natalie has a chance to catch her breath another savage and gruesome murder takes place inside the wonderful Halloween store which is opened year round carrying the best costumes anyone could imagine wearing to any type of costumed occasion. Still reeling from the critical shooting of her longtime best friend Luke Pittman from her unsolved previous case Natalie knows she's not going anywhere which doesn't sit well with her current boyfriend who wants Natalie to settle down with him and leave her stressful work life behind.
While investigating this current murder Nat discovers a mysterious house of hidden horrors that may be tied to many unsolved cases going back a few decades and wonders if her friend (Bella) who disappeared when they were teenagers might also be part of this case. Natalie has never recovered from Bella disappearing without a trace on their high school graduation night so she is always trying to find her even though it was listed as an official closed case and Bella being confirmed (with evidence) as a runaway. As the cases get more complex with so many suspects involved Nat finds herself being watched or maybe stalked and realizes her life is now in the crosshairs of one or more dangerous unknown persons who want to see her as their next victim.
This was another entertaining and atmospheric book in the Natalie Lockhart series. Natalie is a wonderful character with a life full of unwanted drama which follows.her everywhere. I enjoy watching her growth as a woman and a detective. The town of Burning Lake is so enjoyable with all of it's history and atmospheric back stories of modern day witches and and the lovely whimsical shops that tourists love to come and visit especially during the Autumn season. While this story takes place in March and early April, the author "Alice Blanchard" never fails to bring a creepy atmosphere to her books which is delightfully and wickedly mysterious. I enjoyed this book very much especially since it wrapped up many missing pieces from some previous cases.
This book can be read as a stand-alone as the author does a great job of bring the reader up-to-date on some real puzzlers although I would recommend reading book #3 "The Witching Tree" first if possible especially, since it was a fantastic and eerily, scary story and is very intertwined with this book and I believe it made this book more enjoyable for myself. I can't wait to read more books with Natalie Lockhart and the town of Burning Lake and I certainly hope (cross my fingers) there will be more written in the future!
I want to thank the publisher "St. Martin's Press/ Minotaur Books" and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this complimentary digital copy and any thoughts or opinions expressed are unbiased and mine alone!
I have given this entertaining book a rating of 4 PUZZLING AND DEADLY 🌟🌟🌟🌟 STARS!!
This police procedural is book four and the end of this series following this police detective. Usually with books like this I don’t mind, but while everything was explained I think some of my enjoyment was lessened by the fact that I haven’t read the first three books. I also struggled to really get into the characters and found the writing style hard to get into. I loved the murder Natalie was investigating and all of the rabbit holes to other unsolved pieces she found along the way. Natalie hasn’t recovered from the last murderer they caught and Luke, the man she secretly loves, is still in a coma, but she is next up and called to a man who worked in a Halloween costume shop is found dead. Investigating this crime leads her back to the other murders she and Luke have been investigating and it seems that there may be more than one enemy among those pretending to protect and serve.
3.5 Stars I have no issue reading companion mystery series out of order so I didn't hesitate to pick up this one. But apparently this is not a companion, but a proper interconnected series. I was intrigued how this one opened and would love to experience this series in the proper order.
This book gave me similar vibes to the Kate Burkholder series. Like Linda Castillo's popular series, this one features a strong female detective with a good mix of mystery, action and a touch of romance.
I would recommend this series to fans of this series, but I would strongly recommend starting back at the beginning.
Disclaimer I received a copy of this book from the publisher.
Special thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free, electronic ARC of this novel received in exchange for an honest review.
Expected publication date: July 25, 2023
A dead body is discovered in a costume warehouse in Burning Lake, New York. Detective Natalie Lockhart is called in on the case, even though her partner and long-time love Luke is lying in the hospital in a coma and she is more than a little distracted. As Natalie and her team investigate, the case becomes increasingly more sinister as the dead man leads Natalie back to two more murders she solved years ago, and to the disappearance of her best friend from high school. The connections run deep, and Natalie is faced with the ultimate confrontation from her past in order to save her own future, and the future of her town.
“The Shadow Girls” is the fourth novel in the Natalie Lockhart detective series by Alice Blanchard. I was given the chance to read this story and I jumped at it, as I love police procedurals with female protagonists. I haven’t read anything else by Blanchard, or any other Lockhart novels for that matter, and in this case, “Girls” is one that should be read after the preceding three novels. Although the story was strong enough to be enjoyable, I felt that I missed a lot of the backstory and vital character development by not reading the other Lockhart novels.
The story starts with a dead body in a warehouse, then the trail leads to an abductor/predator, and I was instantly hooked. Somewhere in the middle of the story, I thought I had dropped the plot, as it shifts entirely to incidents that happened in Natalie’s past (and the other novels), but Blanchard manages to seamlessly connect the plot lines by the end.
Police stories with a female lead always seem to have a romance component (for some reason), and “Girls” had that in spades, as Natalie struggles with her feelings for her ex-partner, Luke, and her current boyfriend. This triangle ends as you’d expect, and just the way that the reader wants it to.
Overall, this novel had a twisted (in a good way) subject matter, and I am always a sucker for police procedurals. However, this novel isn’t great as a stand-alone and should be read in order. “Girls” has intrigued me enough, though, to add Blanchard’s other Lockhart novels to my TBR.
I've read all the books in this Natalie Lockhart series and this is the fourth - they are addictive. You really should read these books in order - I don't think it would be good as a stand alone, but it's great if you've been following the story. This is a good police procedural with a strong female lead, and there's a good mystery here as well as a romance triangle involving Natalie and her ex-boyfriend and her current boyfriend. This book seemed like an ending to me and I hate to think Natalie the series has ended, but they have to end sometime, right?
Thanks to St. Martin's Press, Minotaur Books through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on July 25, 2023.
First and foremost, if you have a love of strong female characters, you're going to need this series!! Detective Natalie Lockhart is by far one of my most favourite fictional characters.
The Shadow Girls is excellent. Fast paced, unreal discoveries, deception, dark secrets, tension, and witchcraft...
I have loved my many hours reading this amazing series! The fourth book feels very final. If so, this series wrapped up absolutely perfectly. Not a cliffhanger in sight!
Pro Tip: Read this series in order. The journey to get to The Shadow Girls is a truly excellent one. As much as I loved the recaps in each book, you need to read these books in order to get the full picture. Trust me, it's worth it!!
My thanks to Minotaur Books for this gifted copy and to Alice Blanchard for writing these fantastic books. I can't wait to see what's next for you!
I stayed up late last night to finish this one. This is the fourth book in the series about Detective Natalie Lockhart and it's a nail-biter to the finish! When we last saw Burning Lake NY, Natalie's boss and longtime friend, Luke, was found at the bottom of a ravine, seriously injured by their corrupt colleague Peter Murphy. In this instalment, the recently-recovered Luke and Natalie try to fit all the pieces together and link up the violence and strange events in Burning Lake. Natalie makes a gruesome and unsettling discovery at a property in Burning Lake, uncovers startling new information about her missing friend Bella Striver, and makes some decisions about her relationship with Hunter Rose.
The tension is ratcheted way up in this latest book about Burning Lake. The descriptions of the grim discoveries, dark witchcraft, and dilapidated houses create that classic Burning Lake atmosphere of foreboding mixed with anticipation. The pace is quick and the revelations come fast and furious, especially in the final chapters of the book (the reason for my late night). Natalie's hesitation to commit to Hunter finally comes to a resolution, proving that you should never, never ignore that little voice inside, and there are some character stories that take a surprising turn.
I was definitely all in on this one. It is a satisfying conclusion to the many professional and personal mysteries haunting Natalie throughout the four books. It felt rather final in the last pages which leads me to question if perhaps Alice Blanchard is finished her series about Natalie Lockhart. I certainly hope not, as I have grown very attached to her. So many thanks to Alice and Minotaur for allowing me to read an advanced copy. It was a complete pleasure and a privilege.
If you love a tense mystery and a modern, gothic Salem-ish setting with witchy themes then, witch, get yourself to the bookstore and buy this series!
First I’d like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to read this. Unfortunately when I started the book I didn’t realize it was a series… so maybe if I’d read the earlier books, this one would have made more sense. There was really just way too much going on. I think the cliffhangers from all the other books converged in this one. As for the writing, I felt like I was being told the story rather than experiencing it. The characters felt like cardboard cutouts more than actual people and I was never invested in any of them. I may be in the minority here but this book definitely didn’t work for me.
I missed the first two books in the series but am so glad I found book 3 and have now read book 4.
I love the main character but not some of her choices. The stores are interesting and interconnected. It’s not necessary to have read them all but it does bring some deeper understanding of what’s occurring in the story.
I would like to thank edelweiss and the publisher for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review. I have really enjoyed this series so I was excited to read this one. We follow Natalie right after the last book ended, everything is a mess and she’s starting to slowly wrap her mind around all these cases and how they can be tied together even decades later. This novel was fast paced and I couldn’t put it down. Can’t wait for the next one.
I received an advanced review copy of this book for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I know I'm reading a good book when I'm fully immersed in the world the author has created. I'm able to glide right through the inevitable editing mistakes, misspellings, or typos that can otherwise pull me up short. The overall story is so well told and captivating that I can forgive all manner of missteps. Sadly, this was not the case with The Shadow Girls.
I fully understand and appreciate that this book was part of a series in which I hadn't read any of the prior installments. But I felt like, as the reader, I was dropped into the middle of a book having missed the first half of the story. Characters were mentioned with no context or backstory, and it felt like the author assumed everyone had read all of the prior books. I don't expect every book in a series to retell what came before, but there is a way to include brief background to support those readers who do wander in mid-series.
The plot itself had several different story lines that were, in my opinion, tied together quite clumsily. There was a murder of a local witch from a prior book in the series, the long ago unsolved disappearance of a local teenager, a dead clown in a year round Halloween costume shop (this whole idea really threw me), and a basement dungeon. Connections between plot lines felt forced and unnatural. I'm not one who needs my stories to be rooted in reality, but this one was too farfetched even for me.
The main character of this book, Natalie Lockhart, comes across as unlikable. Several scenes are written with so much additional drama and hyperbole that, again, it was distracting. There's a whole history with her family that, again, wasn't really explained. Even with all the unnecessary, and often just confusing, detail, the character of Natalie Lockhart is one dimensional and underdeveloped.
I fought to stay engaged in this book until the end and give it a fair shake. But I had to fight too hard for it. I just couldn't ever find that groove where I was fully engrossed by the story. This book needs serious editing, revision, and proofreading before I would recommend it to anyone.
I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is the 4th in the Natalie Lockhart Series. This series needs to be read from book 1 to really understand what is going on with the characters and the plot. I have really enjoyed this series and couldn’t wait to read this latest addition. Blanchard has a great way of pulling you into her stories. Great suspense, love Natalie and Luke plus the stories themselves. Lieutenant Luke Pittman is in a coma after being attacked by another officer, Veronica Manes a witch has been murdered and Natalie who was going to quit her job becomes embroiled into the investigation and decides to stay on until she can solve it. Natalie is struggling with Veronica’s murder, Luke in a coma, her sister’s suicide and her best friend's disappearance plus whether or not to leave with her boyfriend, Hunter. Pick up this book and find out what happens to Natalie and can she solve this mystery and does she have her happy ever after.
4.25/5 stars! I didn't realize that this book was part of a series, but it worked well as a standalone. This book was non-stop action and I couldn't put it down. The description of the settings was masterful and I found myself clenching my jaw for Natalie at some of the most epic portions. I really appreciated that this book felt like the completion of the story, rather than leaving a cliff-hanger for us to suffer from.
I received an advance review copy for free through NetGalley, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
This is book four in the Natalie Lockhart series, and it was a fantastic addition. The Shadow Girls is a complex and thrilling police procedural. There are multiple cases being solved, and Natalie is dealing with a lot of personal drama.
I loved how action-packed and fast-paced the story was. It was certainly never dull. Finally, there were answers to a mystery that spanned the entire series. There was so much going on in this book that, at times, I had to slow down to take it all in. But it was wonderful and compelling in the best way possible.
This read like it could be the last book in the series. If it was, it was an excellent and exciting conclusion.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
The Shadow Girls is an unpredictable, sinuous thrill ride that takes us back to Burning Lake, NY, where Detective Natalie Lockhart and her team now find themselves not only keeping their fingers crossed that Lt. Pittman will quickly awake from his coma but also investigating the death of a local employee of Murray’s Halloween Costumes, Randolph Holmes, who unbeknownst to most, seems to have had a penchant in the past for kidnapping, confining, and murdering young girls.
The writing is seamless and fluid. The characters are tough, determined, and flawed. And the engrossing plot is a tightly-paced, ominous tale full of twists, turns, surprises, violence, manipulation, depravity, and murder.
Overall, The Shadow Girls is a highly entertaining, gripping, eerie thriller by Blanchard that highlights her exceptional ability to write police procedurals that have well-drawn characters and disturbingly realistic storylines. It is the fourth novel in the Natalie Lockhart series, and if you’re not already reading this series, you really should be!
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press – Minotaur Books for gifting me a copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! I did not expect to fly through this book at the pace I did! The Shadow Girls is a propulsive story with a twisted plot, exciting and nail biting scenes, and a beyond engaging mystery.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆?
I was immediately hooked by the prologue and from there the story fluidly progressed and I was immediately transported to Burning Lake.
𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿?
I had no idea this was the fourth book in the series when I picked it up, and I immediately started kicking myself for not reading this series in order. In order to really enjoy this book and fully understand what has been going on, you have to read the first three books in the series before starting this one, because, from what I’ve gathered, the last book ended in one heck of a cliffhanger in order to lead into this one. Plus, this will give you a better understanding of Natalie’s situation.
This book was absolutely phenomenal. PHE. NOMENAL. You must read the first three books in order to understand the full scope of what happens in The Shadow Girls. It’s this fourth book that somehow, outrageously, ties storylines together. Natalie has regularly been dealt crappy hands in life, but she finally allows herself to really trust her instincts, and it pays off handsomely.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.
I have read all four of the Natalie Lockhart books and have really enjoyed this series. You definitely need to read this series from the beginning (Trace of Evil) to understand Detective Lockhart and everything she goes through emotionally and the things she sees and experiences while on the job.
There is a lot going on in this book. A lot. Natalie gets a new dead body case while still trying to figure out her current case. Soon, she finds eerie clues that lead to her new case being connected to everything else.
Then, there's the Natalie and Hunter versus Natalie and Luke drama, which I personally loved. Hunter is the wealthy man who wants to protect her, yet Luke is the man who really "knows her."
There are short chapters throughout. Yay. There is nothing dull about this wonderful book. I am sad to see this series end, but also happy about the way it ended.
Thank you to Minotaur Books and the author for the advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
An excellent serial killer book. This is a book in a series of books involving the detective Natalie Lockhart. I’m going to go back to the beginning of the series to read past involvement with her. There were a lot of characters in this book to remember. Thank you #netgalley for the opportunity to read this book. #theshadowgirls
I was disappointed. The first two books pulled me in but this and The Witching Tree fell a bit flat. Too much repetition of back story and a wierd time line (how Natalie hasn't been hospitalised from lack of sleep and physical exhaustion, I don't know). I think there were some good ideas but it didn't work for me.
Fast paced and full of gritty and dark corners and twist. Breakneck speed flipping pages to find out what is happening In this town. A great read with wonderful characters. Heart stopping at times! A plus for suspense and terror
✨ Picks up where the last novel left off. ✨ So many threads. ✨ Lots of twists and turns. ✨ Loved the romance elements!
Overall thoughts:
We’re back in the town of Burning Lake where the murder case of a modern day witch, Veronica Manes, has been left unsolved. The case has become a tangled web of threads that detective Natalie Lockhart is determined to make sense of. When another murder occurs, Natalie uncovers a larger conspiracy with far reaching tendrils.
After the cliffhanger ending in The Witching Tree, I was so happy to be back in Burning Lake! This book picks up where The Witching Tree left off. Natalie is following up with leads concerning Veronica’s murder when another seemingly unconnected murder lands on her plate. There were plenty of twist and turns and red herrings throughout her investigation.
The second murder leads her deeper into the darkness plaguing her town. I really loved how everything was weaved together. All of the storylines from the very beginning of the story came into play. The loose threads throughout the series were neatly wrapped up in meaningful ways.
The journey Natalie has been on since book one has been beautifully written. I feel like by the end of this book she has come full circle. I loved seeing how much she’s grown and how she’s mended some of the broken parts of her life including relationships and friendships.
One of my favorite parts of this series has been the will they, won’t they relationship between Natalie and her long time older friend and boss Luke. There were so many ups and downs in this book with them, it was a wild ride! I loved every second of it and all of the developments between them.
If you like mysteries with a strong female lead read this series! I suggest reading it in order to get the full experience.
I've so enjoyed this series and hope there is another coming.. Alice Blanchard has hit it out of the park again. All the twists and turns in this, book four, of the Natalie Lockhart series. You won't see it coming. I promise.
Natalie Lockhart has solved her share of crimes in Burning Lake. Very recently she was lead detective for the two most horrific serial killer cases they've seen in a long time. Maybe ever. This book picks up where book three ended. Luke is in a coma and Natalie is standing watch over him. Their chemistry is strong despite the fact that they are each in committed relationships. They have known each other most of their lives and been the best of friends always. Natalie has always loved Luke but she's in love with Hunter.
When Randy Holmes's body is found murdered Natalie is on the case. She uncovers things that were kept hidden for years. Randolph Holmes had many deep dark secrets that no one knew about. Almost no one that is. He was part of a group back in the seventies who practiced the black magic. So when he is found and his secrets come to light someone wants to shut Natalie up. She's uncovered far to much.
This book will bring you to the edge of your seat. You'll cringe at some of the things happening or that had happened in Burning Lake, NY. Some very sinister things. From practicing with Black Magic to murder. Abducting young ladies and holding them. Pure and evil murder. There is a lot going on in this town. One cop who is on the run. Others who are bound and determined to find him. But with all of this it's so easy to follow. This book will keep you on your toes and the ending is spectacular in my opinion. I love how this author tied up all the loose ends and brought much closure to things. I do still hope there is another book though. Or a new series perhaps.
Thank you #NetGalley, #AliceBlanchard, #StMartinsPress/MinotaurBooks for this ARC.
The Shadow Girls is Book 4 in Alice’s Natalie Lockhart Series.
This story starts off with a situation in a warehouse, that leads to a ….
I guess you’re going to have to pick up this one to find out all those details! Clear your schedule & start this series! This could be read as a stand-alone but you’d enjoy reading this series in order for the best reading experience.
A huge thank you to Minotaur Books & NetGalley for an arc in exchange for my honest opinion.
If you enjoy police procedural books this one is definitely for you.
The Shadow Girls drops us right smack in the middle of curses, witchcraft, and murder.
Natalie Lockhart is a detective in a small town called Burning Lake, where evil seems to seep from the soil. The vibe is dark and the atmosphere is intense.
Pacing carries us along on a fast-moving current. This is a quick read with lots of activity and no time to look away.
The Shadow Girls is the fourth book in this series, and I suggest reading them in order. All the threads from the previous three books are pulled and connected here. Everything wraps up nicely, with a solid ending.
*Thanks to Alice Blanchard and Minotaur Books for my signed copy!*
This is an intriguing psychological drama. It is an interesting and gripping story from start to finish. Set in upper New York State in a town with a background in witchcraft, the stage is set for an exciting story. Natalie is a detective who has become famous for solving major crimes. Luke is a Lieutenant who has her complete trust. Together they are on the case of solving a new murder as well as a cold case. Readers will be held in suspense as all the parts of the case come together. There is action as well as romance involved in the plot. This is a well written book that will be enjoyed by readers.
