Review:
👉Talking about the title of the book, the title of the book is really so interesting to read.
👉The cover is appealing and attractive as well.Writing style is quite appreciable . Welcome to Speak Easy.Imagine a scenario where each discussion you had was an extraordinary one. Here and there, that promising lead ends up being a failure. That first date doesn't prompt a second. The attempt to seal the deal neglects to land the client. Yet, consider the possibility that they could. Imagine a scenario where you knew the moves toward "set up" every discussion to improve the probability that you interface, draw in and win.In contrast to preclusion period speakeasies - underground bars with secret thumps, where individuals talked unobtrusively to stay away from location - there's no home brew here. Be that as it may, inside these covers you'll discover probably the tricks of the trade of first class interviewers. He is a narrator, podcaster, and proficient speaker who has concentrated on how content can interface and connect with crowds. He has dissected, altered, and separated a large number of meetings and incredible discussions. A good conversation is an enjoyable experience. A great conversation which leaves you smarter and with a great feeling of connection when it ends is a gift. Finding ways to truly listen and connect with other people is an art and science. In his engaging book “Speak Easy – Connect with Every Conversation” author Lou Diamond provides us with his invaluable 7 C’s guidelines and story infused lessons that that are peppered with wit, wisdom, and plain old common sense. Each guideline outlined the steps we need to take to connect with others during any conversation.
Lou also explains the “science” of conversation and what important components need to be in place so our conversations could serve as memorable and most importantly authentic representations of ourselves. He also shares this information via his clever Speakeasy “conversation recipes” so they can be remembered and applied.
However, I would expect nothing less from an author/speaker who spent his formative years growing up in Queens, New York, a geographic and multi-cultural landscape that is forever interesting, consistently confusing but always educational. Lou is a credit to his Queens roots, a place where the question “How did you get here?” was part of our Queens’ native’s daily existence. Sharing helpful directions that would help us travel through our neighborhoods was embedded in our borough’s Code of Conduct.
I recommend that you make this book one of your go to communication resources and enjoy the lessons wrapped in a smile. And now I am going to follow the author’s well-tested B5G motto “Be Brief. Be Bright. Be Gone!” and end this book review!
P.S. When anyone from Queens tries to give you advice… Listen! They know what they’re tawking about! Keep this book handy wherever you go. It's going to come in handy.
From the morning coffee chats with your family to the daily news broadcast to your choice of podcast on the drive to work to the endless conversations throughout the work day, we are constantly engaged in conversation.
What if every conversation you had was a great one and didn’t feel wasted?
Sure, we have all experienced poor conversations.
The sales pitch that falls flat or the pick up line to a girl/guy that gains you a stone-cold stare.
But, what if you knew the steps to “set up” each conversation to increase the likelihood that you connect, engage and win?
Well, this is the book to get the job done.

Lou Diamond shows you how to have an effective and engaging conversation with anyone and win big in business and life. As an Engineer by education, I was always inclined towards technical and analytical side of things. Connecting with people, forming bonds and building long-term relationships did not come easily to me. Running a business meant that people skills are a top priority item. So I am always looking to read and learn better ways to be good at soft skills. Lou Diamond is a Cornell graduate and his book featured on the Alumni page. This is how I happened to pick up this book.
As someone who has business meetings on a daily basis, I found a few things that I can apply directly. For example, it is nice to share something fun and thaw the tension. I can ask things like - what is your favourite thing to eat?, or 'Tell us about an activity you did more of?, or 'If you could go anywhere in the world?' .. types of questions. Yes they may not work all the time and the end result of your business meeting might end up as the same as without the extra effort. However when things are 50-50, on the razor's edge, then it will tilt things in your favour.
‘Speak Easy’ is a speakeasy where cocktails come in the form of curated knowledge.
In the audiobook, at the inception and end of some chapters, there was even a nice injection of background bar sounds and phrases such as ‘let me top up that drink’. The book also ends on a ‘bar cart bonus’ with secret menus. I quite like these thoughtful touches.
One interesting thing that I recall was when the author reminded us to not focus too much on presenting the presentation. Instead, focus on having an engaging conversation so that you can understand your customers.
It’s also important to not forget the ‘last call’ by thanking your partner for the opportunity to speak, and secure your next conversation slot.
I like that it's one of those books to have on hand when you want to put into practice methods or techniques to improve your skills, in this case, your conversation skills. While the key theme of the book is to establish connection in conversations, I particularly think that not every conversation has to fulfill all the factors. However, the B5G model, which stands for "Be brief, be brilliant, and be gone," is an excellent recommendation for making our conversations practical when the interest is in building or obtaining a response in return. There are many things in this book that I would like to start putting into practice.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this fantastic book about conversation! The author, Lou Diamond, presents his wealth of knowledge with humor, in an engaging writing style that captivates all the way to the end. Tools like: “Connect Your V.O.I.C.E.” to “Easy Es” or “ Give it Your A.L.L.” (just to name a few) are all shown in an organized, yet fun way that makes it easy to absorb. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to master the art of conversation the right way!
Short easy read with tips on how to get any conversation started. As an introvert I found myself having a hard time getting to know people the same way they would get to know me. Yes I could’ve mimicked their questions but I didn’t want to come off as a fraud, so I got this book in hopes it will give me insight on what it was I was missing when talking to others and not only did it give me insight but also tips on how to talk to almost anyone especially in professional settings. I think it’s a must read for anyone who wants to have better conversations or improve their current skills.
I have just finished Lou Diamond’s guide to better conversations, I read the whole book without being able to put it down. His advice on creating good relationships, especially in business, by starting with a “connecting conversation “ and making personal contact more important than ever. I found myself nodding in agreement throughout the whole book. It is written in a conversational style and I felt like Lou was sitting with me, and chatting! Lots of good takeaways that I will use in my next presentation!
Have you ever left a conversation feeling wow, that’s a conversation I will remember! Speak Easy teaches you exactly how to have those conversations.
If you want to be a better speaker, improve your communication skills, move your audience, and have an impact then this book is for you. A short but transformative read to unlock the potential in every conversation.
