Allyson M. Deese opens this spiritual experience with the title piece, "Somebody Prayed For Me," a heartfelt poem that reminds us of the importance of prayer. There are so many things we could have been in life but somebody prayed for you and for me. And now we must pray for others because prayer does change things. In Silent Cries, Linda R. Herman shares the tale of a teen-aged mother who suffers abuse and rape at the hands of the person she loves. Rape is devastating at any age, but imagine a seventeen year-old girl struggling to get past the pain. With prayer, it is possible. Tinisha N. Johnson’s short story, Facing Reality, opens our eyes to how much our children are influenced by our actions. A mother tries to drown her sorrows in alcohol but doesn’t realize the affect her behavior has upon her twelve-year-old daughter until she makes a shocking discovery. Every piece was written with the hope of inspiring and reminding everyone of the importance of prayer.
Being in love with the written word since pre-school, she began writing poetry in her teens, but it would be years before she floated on cloud nine... into the world of writing to entertain and inspire others.
Once writing explicit romance, Allyson now dedicates all of her writings to God with the prayer that her stories will touch the hearts of her readers.
I do not know if the stories in this book are real, but they read as if they could be. Very eye opening. I typically like to read books that are more uplifting. This book is not uplifting at the beginning. 'Somebody prayed for me' started out giving me a depressing feeling about the world and the choices that people make. As I read further, the message of the importance of prayer came through. I like the message of knowing that even when you can barely help yourself, someone else out there is praying for you. It may be someone who knows you, or it may not. The book sets a goal to inspire and remind everyone of the importance of prayer. I think this book achieves that goal, and provides much more.
SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME, an anthology written by Allison M. Deese, Linda R. Herman and Tinisha N. Johnson, tells multiple stories that deal with individuals coping with horrendous situations, whether its abuse - sexual, physical, or mental, rape, molestation, jealousy, betrayal, and grief, each person learns to believe in a higher power. While some doubt that they can't escape what they feel is holding them down, the prayers of others help to change their outlooks on life.
Though SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME relates to very hard topics, I was a little disappointed that the three contributing authors wrote multiple smaller stories versus three stories in total. Each story, and or poem, has an invaluable lesson; unfortunately, the book was one repeat after the next. Instead of being able to grasp the characters, it was a narrative. SOMEBODY PRAYED FOR ME is an easy read, but in this reader's opinion I would've liked a more profound story from each person. Ladies, I look forward to reading more from you'll soon. Best of luck!
