Dirt and Stardust: Finding Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount

Rate this book
Are you ready to give Jesus a second look?
Many of us have absorbed an image of Jesus from the culture around us. Once that sinks in everything we experience, watch, hear, or read only serves to reinforce what we think we already know about him. There is so much more to the story though.
In this book, we’ll take an honest look at one of the best-known passages in Scripture—Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Some of the concepts you will explore in a new way are:
–What it means to be poor in spirit
–How to be the salt of the earth
–Why Jesus turned the law on its head
–How God’s judgment displays graciousness and generosity
–What Jesus’ model for prayer really tells us about our relationship with God
–How seeking, asking, and knocking impacts you—and those around you
–What taking “the narrow road” means for your life
If you are interested in exploring Jesus’ teaching, read Dirt and Stardust and see that you are a part of what is good about both the dirt under your feet and the cosmos above your head. You are invited into a story much bigger than you were perhaps first told about.

I’m so thankful I found this book. Everything I always desperately hoped and yearned to be true about God IS actually what’s true. The good news that really is good. This is such a great read - a book that explores the bible and the original language to really dive into the sermon on the mount in a new (at least to me) and intelligent way. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, the callout of who I was and for some way to shame me to be on the next page - and yet it didn’t happen. It was like reading an invitation to wake up to the reality of God, who sat beside me the whole time I read and held me while I cried with gratitude for his goodness. It’s been a catalyst for perspective change and healing.

Thank you Jeremy for writing this and sharing it with the world! I was gifted this book when I attended Commons for my first time and have already been passing this book on to friends and coworkers alike! Goodreads friends, especially all my de-constructing SDA goodread pals, wow!!! I recommend. It’s a call to justice and a call to love, all within the context of being loved and worthy.
