I liked the cover 🤷🏼‍♀️

This was ok. It’s Omegaverse without the non-PC stuff. 😐

Their conflict was dumb, and his reaction kinda tanked the book for me. And she forgives him too quickly. I think he should have groveled.

Bottom line? Eh? I liked the smexxy scenes ok.

This was soo good. As always, Liliana Carlisle's novellas are super hot and well-done, she's fast becoming one of my go to favorite authors when I need something short but satisfying. About this one in particular, I just wished for two things: 1. for the Alpha hero to grovel wayy more considering his decision to get back at the heroine (which I found quite stupid since it was very clear from the start that what he blamed her for, actually wasn't her fault). She was too forgiving for my taste 2. a longer epilogue! A sweeter and hotter ending maybe? I feel like another sex scene and declaration of love would have made it perfect 😫

****TMI**** I'm sorry but I really have to lol. This author writes the best f@cesitting sex scenes, like yesss 💦💦 who doesn't love a hero who's obsessed with worshipping his mate like that, hottest thing ever!!!!

3.5 smut-scale stars!

“You’re mine now,” he whispers, his eyes blazing. “You went to bed with the devil. And now I’m never letting you go.”

Noah wants revenge for the death of his brother Ethan and knows who murdered him. When he finds out that the man that killed Ethan has a daughter, he seeks to destroy her...an eye for an eye and all that. But when he sets his sights on Lillith, the Omega, his Alpha instincts surge forward. She is nothing he expected and everything he wants and needs. Can two souls with pain from the past come together and build something beautiful?

“It will take a fucking army to remove you from my side,” he snarls. “Regardless of whether or not you want me there. I’ll be your goddamn shadow if I need to be, in this life and every single one after.”

This was short and 90% smut but I'm not complaining. Noah was all growly and possessive and Lillith was strong yet timid. The two of them worked in their own crazy way. I definitely could have used a MUCH BIGGER grovel at the end however. If you're looking for a dirty Alpha/Omega read, then definitely give this is a try.

"His twisted girl is more depraved than he thought. She’s fucking perfect for him. Her strength, her kindness, her vulnerability… It’s abhorrent that he ever thought he could kill her. “Of course I’ll stay,” he murmurs, watching as her delicate fingers play with her beautiful cunt in the moonlight. “You never had the choice.”

Alpha Noah decides that the best way to avenge his brother's death is to murder an innocent, helpless Omega because that does, of course, make perfect sense.

I've read a lot of this author's books; when I look back at my ratings, I see that they're all over the place: two, three, and even four stars. Usually when I read an author this much, my reactions are more uniform because, of course, if they were consistently bad, I'd stop reading. Not sure if it's me; not sure if it's her, but the bottom line is is that I really like some books and really don't like others -- this belongs in the latter category.

I think the best way to approach it as almost pure Omegaverse erotica; otherwise, nothing makes any sense. Not the professional hitman so hypocritical that he believes he can kill people with impunity, but no one else can. Not the Omega who, victimized by everyone around her -- -- takes "betraying body syndrome" to a whole new level. Not the father, who, desperate to save his empire, . The author tries to create high-stakes conflict between the MC, but Noah just comes across as stupid and impulsive (how he managed to kill anyone and get away with it during his career was a mystery to me), and Lilith so self-effacing that she feels guilty for, well, pretty much everything.

Finally, the book reads like a novella with little world-building, abrupt transitions, and discordant character motivations.

2 1/2 stars. I think the author was trying to go for the they're-so-broken-but-together-they're-whole crazy couple vibe, but Noah wasn't redeemable to me. Perhaps he might be to you.

it’s not HEA to choose the least evil

*Spoilers*

Another story where the heroine is experiencing serial abuse by the men in her life and the audience is supposed to be pleased she chooses arguably the least monstrous of the monsters.
I like the enemies to lovers trope and was intrigued by Noah until about 60% in when I found his behavior to be horrible and incredibly stupid. I mean truly what did he imagine was her reasoning for being so terrified of her own father? To need Jaxon to explain what anybody could infer from just Lilith’s physical reactions to thinking about seeing her dad again… Really makes me doubt Noah‘s ability to be a successful hitman. Maybe my expectations are too high for that career choice but I don’t think my expectations are too high for what makes a good hero. And to be sure Noah is the antihero but he’s also just a really disgusting and disappointing character. In my head I was building up Lilith’s father to be king Lear so when it turns out he’s just trying to marry her off to somebody to continue his lineage, I mean it’s bad and again abusive however I was expecting much worse so the fact that Noah here’s this all from Jaxon and decides he’s made a terrible mistake and has to save her…I’m sorry but why would he bother? He obviously wants her to be miserable, he obviously knows that whatever goes on between her and her father is terrifying to Lilith and he seems to be fine with that. The idea that he’s so sure she’s a “spoiled little rich girl” speaks volumes to his ignorance level. Like really dude? She’s confided in you about so much you’re watching her have a panic attack on the drive towards the city and you still revert back to HS drama? Get outta here

The last thing I have to say is that I’m very disappointed in stories where the heroine is put through hell for seemingly no good reason and she doesn’t get any sort of acknowledgment or vengeance. Noah betrays her in the worst way he can imagine and the reunion is all “You’re mine and I never letting you go, baby.” Wanna bet? I’d make that man eat lead and walk my happy butt off into the sunset.

To the authors of these books - please give us heroines you actually LIKE and take care of of them. The majority of your audience are women and as women we would like to see the women in the stories at least being loved by their Creator.

THIS WAS SO GOOD!!!!

Until. 👏🏼 It. 👏🏼 Wasn’t. 👏🏼

The beginning is pretty standard. Everything’s going as well as you can expect for an Omegaverse and so the story seems to be heading in the direction of being a good and worthwhile read.

Yeah, that changes about 70-ish% of the way in??

As a reader, I felt like I was torn from a well oiled Safari ride tour, in a comfy and familiar Jeep- to being pressed firmly under Joe Exotics armpit posing uncomfortably for a photo with 3 feisty tiger cubs balanced in my arms. Basically, the ending got dumb. Like straight up “what the????”.

✨Spoilers✨

Towards the end but most especially the wrap up overall there were a couple of things that stood out and just really bugged me.

* One of them being the overall Angst tease readers got. The lies, the betrayals, the secrets revealed, the drama, all of that finally comes to a head in a last push to race to the finish with a flourish. A flourish and crucial steering that falls short bc it felt as if punches were pulled. The angst was there a little but personally it wasn’t enough for me and I feel as if there could have been more or at least, I wanted to see more repercussions and actions taken by the FL after the ML betrays her.

* the other big one was the butt $€X scene… I… I don’t think… what he did… aah.. if that’s realistically, um, possible… There’s literally no way. And even if it was, this guy is using absolutely no, um, “grease”, except for a wee bit of initial moisture he applied at the start. Also, the ML did zero prep work to get her ready before, um, you know, and he was deliberately trying to KNOT her back there. Poor gal, walking around with a permanent tear in her sail like that. Yea, no.

* can we talk about how many chapters this guy is bleeding out for too while we’re at it?? He’s literally half collapsed on top of the FL as they drag themselves away from the carnage but then during the next 4 chapters he proceeds to ignore it in favor of spending an hour plus in a car without attending to it, carries, manhandles and full on showers with the FL, and then proceeds to *cough*, “lavish”, on the FL before FINALLY bandaging his openly bleeding wound that was made to sound mortal only for it to devolve into seemingly a simple graze.

* which leads me to my last big ick. That this world is set in a modern day world setting, present day, but there are apparently no such things as Forensics in this world. The ML and FL talk about possibly being caught but the ML soothes the FL by saying authorities don’t suspect her at all and that he’s too much of a “shadow” to be caught.

Meanwhile, at the scene of the crime, evidence of her slick and the ML’s ya’ know, BLOOD, have been conveniently mistaken for other perfectly logical things. Mmm, “shower gel” in the living room and “ketchup” on the foyer, mm, yes, exactly.

The ending was just, really jumbled together. It didn’t have a lot of breathing space and room to maneuver and play out properly bc it all got sort of rushed at the end. So it just became a mess and that’s what ruined this for me. A total bummer for a novel that initially started off so well.

This was a mixed book. Story starts off strong but meanders and goes off track somewhere towards the end.

Here’s the backstory: We have the omega heroine, who is on the run, and in hiding, from her abusive dad. Her bodyguard helps her escape but gets killed in the process. His brother is an alpha assassin who vows to kill the heroine in retaliation.

Next our assassin hero comes to kill the girl but falls deep in love instead. He swears up and down he will protect her till his dying breath and that she is his mate. The story goes along well enough until here.

Then about the 80% mark the hero has a bizzare about-turn in his behavior. The heroine comes to realize he is the brother of her dead bodyguard. The hero becomes bizzarely angry that she has figured it out and, for some unexplained reason, drags her back to her abusive dad, in revenge. The daddy then promptly decides to get her married off to some abusive violent dude who nearly rapes her.

Hero suddenly decides to reassert his “mine” claim and goes storming in, killing the villains and getting the heroine back. There is no adequate amount of grovel or apology for dragging his “mate” back to her abusive dad.

This bizarre behavior makes me think the hero is not really as protective of the heroine as he claims to be. When angry, he has no qualms about impulsively pushing her into dangerous situations, and then does a big drama of bringing her back when his temper cools.
Yeah, no. He’s not trustworthy.

Giving this one 2 stars.

Dark paranormal romance - off the charts chemistry

POV: dual
HUMOR: some
F BOMBS: yes
STANDALONE: yes
NEW AUTHOR FOR ME: yes
POSSIBLE TRIGGERS: bloody beginning, crude language, physical abuse, using rape by other men as a threat of punishment, murder, stalking, lots and lots of sexy times which include: choking, knife play, spanking, fifth base, knotting

CHARACTERS: Lilith Thatch (18, virgin Omega) and Noah Ashford (age? Alpha)

OVERALL: Enjoyed my first non-shifting wolf romance - Recommend

PROS:
1. Lots of chemistry between MCs
2. Confident, dominating, possessive, dirty-talking, caring (and purring) Alpha
3. Brave, survivor, (in heat quite a bit) Omega
4. Easy to read; lots going on; interesting from first page to last
5. Epilogue (every good book should have one) to HEA

CONS:
1. Not much world-building so some parts confusing because they weren't explained in this paranormal world of non-shifting wolves: Mating gland, the Heat, the Rut, using Influence, marking vs. mating bite, purring, building nests
2. Didn't care for their stand-off with Lilith's father (she wasn't very wise here)
3. Unrealistic sexy time when he was shot and still bleeding, and she was injured
4. The word "slick" used 33 times.
5. ARC version had an inconsistency

NOTEWORTHY:
1. Enjoyed that Noah was a true Alpha: dominant, yet protective and taking care of his Omega, and for the most part, was honest in answering her questions

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I was torn between rating this a 2 or 3 star but I settled on 2 maybe 2.5, it wasn’t horrible really up until the ending. It was my first omegaverse book? So I’m ngl I did cringe at reading alpha and omega almost every page. The plot was interesting but simple and predictable. Lilith forgave him way too quick I will say cs wtf girl stand yo ground but I could understand why she didn’t after everything she went thru. Loved the smut scenes but again with the alpha and stuff in it was a little ehh, Noah was a character I wish it showed a little more backstory to him but mysterious ig and idk if I would say his reaction and what he did was acceptable with what she told him cs he swore up and down that girl was his and would never hurt her but was so quick to switch up but then again it was abt his family sooo, and wydm your shot but still got time to make this girl orgasm like?😭 regardless I didn’t entirely hate this book and still enjoyed it
