We meet Dr. Lani Jamison when she's thrust in the middle of an emergency. She's strong, capable, and cares about the infants she's giving treatment. But someone wants her career ruined and Lani will have to follow the clues and find the culprit.
She has help in the person of Jordan Spears, a man who fulfills some of her needs and wants to play a more important part in her life. He has his own issues and together, they must conquer their individual and combined problems.
I enjoyed the push and pull of their relationship as it developed and the fact that Lani came to realize what a treasure she has in Jordan. If I took away anything from this book, it is the importance of family and other support systems in our lives. Of course, the presence of a romantic man (who knows his way around the bedroom) sweetens that deal.
I honestly didn't know if I would like this series because The Kings Of The Castle along with The Knights has set a pretty high standard. However, I can honestly say that this book is continuing the trend with the intention of exceeding them both!!! I actually loved the chemistry between Jordan and Lani; it literally jumped off the page. I really loved that Jordan knew what he wanted and he didn't let anything or anyone including Lani stand in the way of the future that he knew that they could have together!!! The mystery surrounding the couple only added more intrigue to the story itself. I'm excited to read the next book in the series!!!
This was a really good book. I enjoyed Lani and Jordan and the dynamic of their relationship. I loved that this was different feom my typical genre of urban/street romance. The characters gave a breath of fresh air and just enough drama to please my reading palate. I loved the whodunit of who was after Lani and the need to sometimes rely on family and a strong support system. At a such a trying time in my life, this book was much needed and appreciated!
This was a great read. The suspense in this book kept you on the edge of your seat. This book was definitely a page-turner. There were many things about this book I loved. I wish I had some of the gadgets used in this book. If you are looking for a great page-turner you should check this one out. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This book starts off a bit slow for me. I didn’t get a good feel for who the characters were until quite a few chapters into the book. At the beginning of the book I had a hard time forming a connection with the characters or any of the situations early in on the book. There is so much going on that at times I feel like I’m not getting the whole story and other times I’m like why is this in here. Example: The party at the Castle, I didn’t know what I was supposed to know from this scene and others where I needed more when Jordan and Lani were getting to know each other. We never really lean anything, how do they like their eggs, what’s a favorite food, color. Simple thing that going to make the characters more realistic and relatable. As you continue on in the book you find an original store line. It kept my interest and had me pondering what was going to happen next once I got to about five chapters into the book. Low amount of romantic engagement between the characters however there is plenty of drama to hold your interest. There is family drama, work drama, relationship drama and the airing out of some dirty secrets, which makes for a great read. I loved that Lani showed strength throughout the book. Times where life was throwing Lani one obstacle after another she stood tall and didn’t back down from anyone. When she stood up to Jordan’s former lady employers it was fierce, I liked seeing that side of her. I do wish we would have gotten to see the protective side of Jordan come out. After the car accident, I wish there was more of a sense of urgency for Jordan to get to her. He seemed really passive at a time when I would have liked to see more emotion. Seeing some of the characters from the Kings of the Castle series was great too. The way everything tied together in the end was great. You got to see the Kings at work and how they handle any situation thrown at them. The flow from the end of one chapter to the start of the next was choppy at times. It took a few paragraphs to understand what was going on and who was speaking. There is some time that passes by between chapters and that made it hard to follow at times. Publish your review!
Where do I start? I love that a native of Hawai'i was the first Queen in the series and a bit of the history of Hawai'i. While her age was not mentioned, Lani seems to be in her 30s. Jordan also seemed to be in his 30s.
This story was full of suspense, medical settings and focus, as well as a romance started in an unexpected way. It had me guessing to the end. There were hints and twists that kept the story moving.
There are mentions of robotic surgery and more medical tech from the Kings and Knights of the Castle that was exciting. Lani, a pediatric doctor, was having her career sabotaged and had to unravel who and why. There were all of the family issues for both Lani and Jordan. There were themes of forgiveness, times to not forgive, and letting go of past hurts to embrace a loving future and redefining family.
Then there was the sex that changed to romance between Jordan and Lani as his past kept showing up to break them up. Lani's past heartbreak kept her from believing Jordan's declarations. She had a secret that she was keeping from him that she thought was a dealbreaker.
I recommend this whether you have read the Kings &/or Knights Of The Castle series or not. I'm so excited to read more of the Queens series!
Note: I received an advance reading copy from NetGalley. I enjoyed reading it so much that I bought it.
Queen of Lahaina storyline was well written. It had all the elements of several genres all in one place of romance, friends to Lovers , family drama and secrets, intrigued, mystery and suspense and HEA. I was drawn in from the beginning until the end. There were a lot of plot twist and turns which I loved. Lani Jamison is a doctor who is working with the Kings of the Castle to develop a robotic machinery that can do surgery to save lives. Someone is out to sabatogage Dr. Jamison and her job at the hospital. Jordan Spears is a handsome man who is involved with a business that women use to be serviced secretly and now he wants to leave but someone is trying to keep him from getting out. This story kept me guessing of trying to figure out who was trying to destroy Lani's career I was surprised to find out who it was, a character I didn't even suspect as I did others. I highly recommend this book to read. I am looking forward to meeting the other Queens in this series and their story. I voluntarily received a ARC from Netgalley and this review is of my honest opinion and thoughts
This story was in no way what I expected. This is my first read of Ms. Bradley's work and I found myself drawn into the story immediately!! To say there were numerous twists and turns before Jordan and Lani arrived at their happily ever after is the epitome of understatements. Secrets of the grandparents negatively impacted Lani's parents, her and the woman born from the relationship her dad stepped out of the marriage with. Jordan's family also had their share of bizarre occurrences beginning with one of his dad' mistresses setting her sights on him. Overall, Jordan and Lani deserved their hard fought for and won happiness. Now I am inspired to read the other Castle books about this exciting group of Kings and Queens!!! Great job and a very good read Ms. Bradley!!!!
Lani was a gifted Doctor who had a troubled past and secrets she wanted no one to know. Jordan was a wealthy man with many secrets to his wealth and his past. Jordan was on a mission to change the path that Lani and he traveled on. Others are worrking diligntly to keep both away from acheiving the place both of their hearts want. The Kings become involved and foils the plot to silence Lani and keep her from her destiny. Lani's past rears its ugly head and awful way. This an awesome read and I can't wait until the next Queen is revealed..
The Queens have arrived to take their place, and they're not backing down. I especially loved the two main characters and how they related to each other and their feelings. The first book in this series of stand alone reads started off with a bang that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. I did not want this book to end, and can't wait for the next book in the series.
I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Someone was trying to sabotage Dr. Lani Jamison’s career as a medical doctor. Babies were being hurt during her shifts at work and some of her colleagues were trying to have her fired. Jordan (who has secrets of his own) is trying to win Lani over but has obstacles (people) trying to sabotage his relationship with Lani (who is very insecure). After several attempts on Lan’s life, Jordan finally manages to get Lani to marry him only to almost loose her again. Loved it
Action packed and suspense filled from the start of this book. Bestselling authors Naleighna Kai and Karen D. Bradley take you on a page turning adventure with Dr. Lani Jamison and Jordan Spears. This couple's chemistry is off the charts and their relationship unconventional filled with twists and turns. Queen of Lahaina kicks off the Queens of the Castle Series with a dynamic bang. I would highly recommend this book. Happy Reading!
My, oh, my!! Queen of Lahaina is everything and more than I expected!! The Kings and The Knights Series were both awesome, but if the rest of the Queens are just as amazing than Lani, then I’m ready for this journey with all of the twists and turns!!
This was excellent reading and I highly recommend this book and series!! Kudos, Naleighna and Karen!! 💜💜
This was a great quick read. It’s takes a look at toxic relationships within your own family and work. This book will keep you guesting and wanting more with the different turns of events. Now the question: Is money the route to all evil? You will need to read Queen of Lahaina to find out.
New to me author. Overall, I liked the story, but it was repetitive in parts and there were some consistency and grammatical errors. Lani and Jordan's relationship was definitely a little unconventional, but it was cute.
This book took me on journey and insight of doctor's perspective. I basically could not put the book down. I had to keep reading because it was beautifully written!
