Where would the "Boy Who Lived" be without the "Girl Who Read?" It's Hermione Granger's third year at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry and she has all the time in the world... or does she? Follow along as Hermione navigates too many classes, magical legal defences, and a stark raving mad escaped convict trying to come after her best friend.
This book is amazing. AMAZING. I would even say it's better than the original Harry Potter book, and it's by far the best in the "Hermione Granger and..." series. Here's why:
There's still a lot of spelling, grammar, and other small issues in the book but that's to be expected because there's no professional editors combing over it. However, if you can look beyond that, it's amazing.
First, this book is actually longer than Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Instead of copying sections and filling in the rest with Hermione chapters like the author pretty much did in the first two books, she pretty much wrote this entire book from start to finish.
The time-turning was genius. There were so many good chapters about Hermione's new classes, the struggles with adding more time to the day, the dangers of time turning, how the stress affected her mood and relationships, etc. It was all really well thought out.
I love how the author introduces Sophie as a friend to Hermione. Another bookish girl who Hermione is originally prejudiced against but eventually becomes really good friends with her and they both teach each other so much and help each other survive the year.
The entire book is phenomenal. I'm serious when I say it's even better than the Harry Potter version.
My favorite part is in the last chapter when Harry goes to talk with Lupin after he finds out he's resigning. This leaves Hermione and Ron alone by the lake and they have a real, heartfelt conversation that really makes the reader feel so much better about their relationship and makes up for a lot of the anger they had with each other for a lot of the book. It's not something J.K Rowling had, but I think it makes the book so much better because we see the best friends apologize with each other and move on in their relationship.
I remain very impressed by Sara for creating this. Especially the bits where Hermoine is away from Harry, so without input from the original books, are so well done in my opinion. They round out Hermoine's character and life outside of the Golden Trio. I also really like the nods made to information that has been released on Pottermore after the books had already come out. I will continue to read this fan fiction als Sara keeps writing them!
It’s fanfic retelling the HP books plot-aligned but from Hermione’s perspective. I wouldn’t actually recommend it, but oof if a bit of cosiness didn’t hit the spot for me this weekend. Thank you Sara for following up on a drunken dare 🤣
Sara grows book by book and while I wanted to speed read this, I also wanted to savor it for as long as possible. The author did an amazing job at filling the gaps and really rounding out Hermione's character. The first two books were feeling the character out but this one really gave us an insight into Hermione and what she went through, especially with the time turner which the usual Harry Potter fan wouldn't know that much about. I am so excited for the next 4 books!
From the first books disappointment and almost DNFing it I'm at the point where I can't wait to have all the chapters out. So glad I kept going. Sara improved a lot and I feel so nostalgic reading the books! On to the fourth one!
