Another adorable graphic novel by Bree Paulsen, "Garlic and the Witch" is the sequel to "Garlic and the Vampire", which introduced readers to the little vegetable people helpers created by Witch Agnes. Our hero is a garlic bulb named Garlic, who is little but brave.
In this book, Garlic is sent on a mission to a witch's market for the rare bloodroot. She must travel far and wide, through scary forests, but she has a companion. She's also freaking out because it appears that she is turning into a human, and she isn't too excited about it.
I know this is targeted for middle readers (the plot is a thinly-veiled look at puberty), but I loved it. My daughter, 11, who used to love books and reading but is now obsessed with her Nintendo Switch (Thanks a lot, grandma!), actually stopped to read these two and loved them as well.
