David Rivers and his team are still on the hunt for the perpetrators of the July 4th terrorist attack. There is no place the deadly team won't venture to find those responsible and stop any future terrorist attacks. When intelligence indicates a world-class assassin receives a substantial payment from the terrorist they are searching for, the CIA's travel agent arranges a trip to Colombia to figure out what the money is for and then to stop whatever they have planned. What they uncover has the potential of killing millions. The only thing that matters is completing the mission. No matter the risks

I'm not sure I've read an author who has improved more in a shorter period of time than Jason Kasper. His early books were good but nothing like recently. Its like he flipped a switch to badass. His writing flows better , the plots are more intricate and he's giving his characters more emotional depth. What hasn't changed is his ability to create authentic, intense action while using humor to ease the tension. The dialogue and "friction" between the team has all the hallmarks of personal experience. Kasper gives the reader a peek behind the curtain into the inner dynamics of a special operations team. They joke, make fun of each other, disagree, and at times probably hate each other but there is nothing they wouldn't do save the other.

If you haven't read Jason Kasper before you should remedy that. You are missing out on an author who improves by leaps and bounds with each new book and always brings the goods.

My sincere thanks to Jason Kasper, Severn River Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of Narco Assassins.

Another immensely entertaining addition to this series. Like the others, it opens with David Rivers' team already on mission, this time as they hunt down a narco-terrorist in Colombia who is connected to a mysterious syndicate the team has gone up against a few times now. As usual, the mission gets off to a rough a start, with everything going wrong. The team's only support on the ground comes from a variety of untrustworthy and unreliable criminals and drug traffickers, and they find themselves in situations that are borderline absurd. Kasper's dialogue really brings the characters to life, and their constant bickering, growing impatience with each other, and snide remarks makes you feel like you're right there with them. You'll likely laugh out loud a few times, but when the action scenes kick in, they are violent, gritty, and dead serious, and Kasper also provides a nuanced analysis of the so-called war on drugs. This is about as good as an action thriller can get.

Jason Kasper knocks it out of the park once more with the fourth entry in his Shadow Strike series, Narco Assassins: A David Rivers Thriller.

Fresh from their op in Nigeria, the mercenaries-turned-Ground Department contractors of Project Longwing are in Colombia, tracking Sofia Lozano, a deadly narco-terrorist who has had contact with the enigmatic terror overlord, Erik Weisz. Lozano has been paid a heft sum for services to be rendered, and it is up to David Rivers and the Longwing crew to find out what those services are and to stop them (and Lozano) in their tracks.

Narco Assassins has everything one has come to expect from a Jason Kasper novel: action, a compelling plot, and top notch interpersonal banter. Kasper is definitely a master of crafting characters with whom the reader can easily connect and subsequently root for.

There are also several dialogues on the drug war. They approach the "preachiness" line but don't cross it, which is fine (and I say that as someone who agrees with the points made within the text). I actually found it to have high educational potential, if a bit one-sided in the talking points.

All in all, a fantastic book. I'm eagerly awaiting Beast Three Six: A David Rivers Thriller!

Narco Assassins by Jason Kasper
Shadow Strike #4

David and his team never seem to have smooth sailing during missions. Their job is never easy and always have difficulties met that must be overcome…this time for the team proved just as difficult and filled with obstacles to overcome.

What I liked:
* The team: all had a fair time in the spotlight, and I got to know each of them a bit better
* That each team member had a part to play and played it well
* The location, plot, pacing and writing
* That the target for assassination was one I could see needing to be taken out
* Taking a look into what must go through the minds of those who undertake black ops missions
* Wondering what it would require physically and mentally to be on the team and what impact it would have in the long run
* The twists and turns each lead led to
* The way the team handled obstacles and what they were willing to do to accomplish the desired outcome
* Never knowing exactly what was coming next
* The authenticity of what took place – weapons knowledge, fight sequencing, strategy, political insights, historical background
* The diversity within the team
* That the team had one another’s backs – would not leave a brother behind
* Knowing that there are people in the world willing to undertake nearly impossible tasks to keep our lives a bit safer
* Wondering if legalizing narcotics would make the world a safer place
* The way the mission ended and…
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Knowing that the evil in this book is no doubt truer than we want to believe

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely

Thank you to NetGalley and Severn River Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Better and better

With every book of this series, I am saying that it is the best of Jason Kasper’s book to date, so I decided to stop saying it because I will sound like an old record.

But seriously, it is his best book to date, full of life-like military action in a mission so full of twists and turns that you can’t help but wonder if David Rivers and his team will pull it off, this time, while searching for a known and violent Colombian narc who has received a lot of money from Eric Weisz to do we don’t know what.

A book full of an array of characters that we would never expect the team to work with, a team that toes the line more than ever and still manages to pull the best prank of the whole series to one of their own. And Chapter 45, which makes a great book even greater and kept me glued to the edge of my seat the whole time.

The best so far, I swear!

Book Review – Narco Assassins – Jason Kasper
Author Jason Kasper delivers another explosive ‘violence of action’ thriller with “Narco Assassins,” Book 4 of the Shadow Strike series. This time, CIA black ops operator, David Rivers and his team tracks an elusive and very cunning female narco-assassin through the jungles of Colombia. Faced with a lethal web of drug trafficking, terrorism, and political corruption, Rivers and team must eliminate the scheming assassin before she completes a deadly terroristic plan that could kill thousands of civilians. The overall plot is interesting, and the storyline has plenty of twist, turns and excitement. Each of the characters are strongly developed and their traits and characteristics only add more significance to the story. I really liked the diversity of the characters and the black ops team’s camaraderie. Kasper has done a masterful job developing main protagonist David Rivers. He is a master operator, leader of a tier one black ops team, and an undeniable ‘badass’! Narco Assassins was another Kasper action-packed, high intensity thriller. The research into the drug cartels and America’s war on drugs was evident, educational, and thought provoking. Kasper’s writing and this series continues to shine. And although this narrative doesn’t necessarily end in a cliff hanger – it does lead the reader to believe that the overall story is not over. Check out Narco Assassins by Jason Kasper. It’s worth the time in reading…

I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This story begins with David and his team in Columbia and they have the task of locating and killing a female drug trafficker, Sofia. It seems that a terrorist leader has tasked Sofia with providing something and David's crew believes that it will be used in an attack. The team is currently waiting in Medellin to get a location where she might be. They know that they can't get ger while she is in her home location. The only way to reach her is if they leave. Recieving information from their local contact Maximo, they are waiting to meet with a potential informant. Before they make the meet, the location is attacked and the possible informant is killed. David attempts to find out who was responsible for the attack. This discovery will lead to several different assaults in their hunt for Sofia.

To learn all of the actions that were taken, who else became involved in their hunt and whether or not they finally accomplished discovering Sofia, then you need to read this book.

It really blows my mind that Jason Kasper isn’t a huge household name, as he’s developed one of the most badass characters in David Rivers within the entire thriller genre. Starting with his ‘American Mercenary’ series (which btw, is a powerhouse series in itself. If you haven’t read it I highly recommend), Kasper has done a masterful job developing his protagonist from a young daredevil with a drinking problem and a death wish to a full blown master tactician/warfighter, leader of a tier one, deniable black ops team. Rivers’ experiences through the American Mercenary books shaped him into an undeniable badass and leader of men, and those characteristics only flourish and multiply in this next series of books. Furthermore, “Narco Assassins”, is imp the best book in this particular series…chalked full of twists and turns, which has become commonplace in Kasper novels. His research into cartels and americas war on drugs is second to none, and his writing shines with aspects of reality in today’s world. Such an awesome book, cannot wait for the next one. An undeniable 5 star rating for me

More Twists and Turns than a Sidewinder.

At any point I kept expecting to end, then would look at my location in the book to see considerable remained. Much research was completed in order to add true settings and actual sites , places and experiences of the team. Puerto Cabello was the main port for the Venezuelan Navy and something the author never touched on — Saltwater Crocs. They are not native to the country, but were reportedly brought in by the owner of a coffee plantation to protect his property and its assets. Largest one I saw there was reportedly just over sixteen feet long. Could have added one more twist to the team. Still, much great research of the country, and what it’s become since after the late 1980s. What an incredible place it was while a democracy!

Jason Kasper has once again created compelling characters and developed them in a way that brings the reader along for a thrilling ride. I'm not going to write a synopsis of the story and characters. Rather I will tell you it's clear Mr. Kasper is a brilliant U.S. veteran with special knowledge of military tactics, and he shares his incite through his writing. A great author, for example, Tom Clancy, can research and create. But Mr. Kasper delivers in a special way because he's "been there." He lived weapons and tactics. It's his experience in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as his West Point credentials that make reading his books exciting!

David rivers and his team go on a hunt for those responsible of the attack that nearly got his family killed. They end up in Central America and coordinate with friendly and unfriendly elements in search of Eric Weisz and his associates. What they uncover is a plan to release Vx gas on large populations of people, so they race to intercept the shipment before it can be put to evil use. All of the characters return in this realistic tale, plus some new ones that are unforgettable and entertaining. Jason Kasper keeps writing gripping and thrilling books. Everyone he writes is my favorite.

What starts out as a 'simple' mission evolves into a complex, seat-of-your-pants adventure!!! David & his team start out trying to stop a massive drug shipment...with a little revenge on their minds! As the story develops, one discovers even allies can't be trusted and what may appear to be a basic target can hide a diabolical, possibly world-ending objective!!! Follow the team as they race to stop a cataclysmic tragedy from occurring! Great read...someone should make this into a movie!!!

Another great read in this series! Nothing is ever easy or straightforward for this group. Everything gets twisted, and no matter how much they plan, plans never seem to go right, though I really enjoy following along as the missions progress.
There's no way of knowing who to trust - even the most trustworthy have secrets and their own ulterior motives - but it's fun to guess if this person or that person is a good one.
Can't wait to see how the next one goes, after that ending!

Another great novel in the Shadow Strike series. Full of non-stop action, mystery, and adventure. David Rivers and his team have been tasked to hunt down Sofia, leader of a drug cartel in Colombia who is smuggling tons of cocaine to a terrorist leader across the ocean. Only for the team to discover something else more sinister involved. This book is well written, great character development, and easy to read. I look forward to the next book in the series.

David has a kill list, and Sophie one that went with the highest bid for her services was on it. Going thru jungles, drugs, terrorists, seem to be the least of what he will encounter. A fast action paced story that readers will enjoy, was well done. Given Arc for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

David Rivers is back and better than ever. This time he’s in South America trying to figure out who he can trust on both sides of the drug trade, plus he’s got to deal with an assassin who may be as dangerous as he is. Lots of action. Action at times, but dull

If I could give 2.5* I would, but 2 is too low, so 3 it is
I really don't know why this book felt wrong, it's a good concept and an interesting team doing the work, but it just did not seem to work
It's basically A chase, with the good guys following the clues to the bad guys.
The previous books have been better than this, but this one fell short

Riveting

I couldn't stop reading this series. The characters are well developed and you can almost envision what the look like. Not that I personally was in the armed forces, but you feel as if many of the actions you are reading are based on someone's experience or some first hand accounts of action experienced. I can hardly wait for book five.

The globe trotting team come to the western hemisphere, in northern South America. Hunting a drug trafficker, who is possibly a terrorist as well, the team doesn't know if they are the hunters or the hunted. Book 4 picks up where book 3 ended and will continue in book 5. While I have to take a break to read something else, I can hardly wait to see what the next mission brings.

The book is slow in that it is heavy on details: the situation, the site, the crew, the bad guys, etc. But the details create the tension to keep reading and hope this time David comes through this on alive. Read on!
