He comes to me at night, in the darkness. The monster I was sworn to, against my will.
By day, he is trapped in the form of a bear and cannot speak, cannot properly rule, but I know what he the King of the Northlands. The King of Trolls. He is under a curse, and he needs my help, but why should I help the brutish, dominating, barbarian king?
I was meant for more than this; my father was a great mage but try as I might, I never had his talent for magic. Although he gave me everything I wanted, I know I'm a disappointment, and that's why I was thrown into this horrible position to save my kingdom from the Troll King's wrath.
Although my dominating new husband has no patience for me when I try to act like a princess, and there is also a tender side to him. He's protective, massively strong, and has a strategic mind that I didn't expect.
But he also has an enemy of his own that I didn't expect. The barbarian troll princess he once snubbed, who hates the "soft, pretty races" with a vengeance and cursed him with the form of a bear so he could never form a diplomatic alliance. If I want a happy marriage with my troll king, I'll have to break the curse--and much to my surprise, I think I do.
Wed to the Troll King is a standalone fairy tale retelling of the East of the Sun, West of the Moon for those who like an unabashedly adorable happily ever after with a side of serious steaminess!
Lidiya Foxglove grew up on a steady diet of fairy tales, folklore and fantasy and also reads way too much manga. Fantasy romance is her favorite thing in the world, but she likes it steamy. She also loves cats and tea--it's cliche for a reason!
If you are looking for a quick fantasy retelling with spice, go for it. Do I regret reading this? Not at all. Was it entertaining? Yes. Did I read it pretty fast? Also yes.
I always assume I can go into these types of books without any knowledge of the world and all, I'm just so used to fantasy series of standalones that you can start wherever you want but in this one I felt like I was missing infos... It does say it's a standalone but it kept referring to Rapunzel's story and we didn't get that much background on our main character so I was wondering if part of it was in Rapunzel's book. It was confusing and a little frustrating for me.
I know this one is supposed to be a fast read but I was missing a lot to grow attached to the characters. Can't say any character left an impression on me really. I don't really like characters that want to please too much (probably because I am like that hahaha), I live for banter and tension which was not really the vibe here. Our two characters were just like: well life did put us together so we'll make it work, and they did... it was missing something for me
I have to admit that even though the story was quite interesting, I definitely had some disappointments.
All in all, I am glad I read it and would be curious about other stories in that universe, this one was maybe just not for me but you get a fast read, dual POV, spice with a plot, which are all big yes for me usually so I might try more.
This was a fascinating retelling of an old fairy tale "East of the Sun, West of the Moon". This was my first time reading a fairy tale retelling. It was also my first time reading a book by this author. Overall, it was a great book. It was well written for the most part. It was well thought out and flowed at a good pace. It held me fascinated especially at the end. The heroine, Drina, was not your normal heroine. She did annoy me a little at first, but I grew to like her as the story continued.
I’ve been looking for a book that just hit the spot you know? And I was having a hard time finding that until today! This book was so sooooo good! It hit all the points for me! Plot, sweetness, spice, flow, just all of it! Now I want a dang Troll for my very own!
I really lovvved this story!!! I was amazed at how much story was packed into less than 150 pages!! I had very little love for Drina and her roll in Rapunzel’s story, but she was entirely redeemed in her love story with the cursed Troll King Geir.
As per usual, Ms. Foxglove never disappoints! This was a wonderful little journey with appearances and references from other beloved characters in the series! I absolutely cannot wait for the one!!!
I’ve learned to be a little more generous with my ratings so I round up on GR. This was ok. I liked that it in ludes past characters and that made me want to read about their stories, but I’m picking and choosing which ones to read.
This was a great book if you want to read something fast and not be reading it for weeks on end. The plot has suspense and it has a little bit of everything you're looking for and of course a happy ending so I would definitely recommend this book
