Owen’s life has never really felt like his own. As his father’s only son, he’s left carrying the burden of marrying for the family, and not for love.
When the news came that a match had been made, Owen went on a bender, sleeping his way through one person after another all summer.
But as he watches Aurora walk down the aisle, the arranged marriage suddenly doesn’t seem all that bad. She’s nothing like he expected, her alabaster skin and violet eyes sweeping Owen off his feet.
Realizing she’s never been touched, Owen discovers he has something that’s truly his for the first time in his life. And when Aurora willingly offers him her heart and body, he starts to believe their marriage could be more than an obligation.
Aurora could give Owen the one thing he’s always longed for—love.
If you're anticipating a kinky read as per the other books in the series you'll either be disappointed or pleasantly surprised. We certainly see a softer and sweeter side of this author in Burdens We Carry. In an arranged marriage between mafia families, it is unexpected love at first side between Owen and Aurora.
We're supposed to come together in the spirit of love and the bringing of two families together. It's not supposed to be a marriage of desire.
Owen and Aurora have never met and now they're forced to marry. However with the intention of taking their vows seriously, it's no hardship that their instantly attracted to each other. Things don't seem so bad after all.
"I know you want to go slow," she says. "But I've been waiting for this my entire life."
I have mixed feelings. I guess my issues was the the lack of story. If you're happy with a novella filled with sex and a virgin being initiated, you'll appreciate this. For me it had the potential for more, not just a story set around the wedding night. It was good, but it felt incomplete in my opinion. I wanted the rest of their story.
I have removed my original review. The author has plagiarized work and profited off of it and I refuse to support their work any further or provide positive feedback.
I JUST FINISHED SECRET WE HUNT AND OMG OMG SO EXISTED FOR OWEN'S BOOK. I don't know it's just a feeling that it's going to be messy or menage or....I don't know, something. It's just a feeling. (which I am not fan of but I will still read it. I am sucker like that.)
No rating because of allegations that arose against this author regarding plagiarism and stolen ideas.
I read this novella to see what Isaly would do post-scandal.
I was surprised to see that Isaly didn't really address anything in her author's note or on social media.
This novella was disappointing. After the "cliffhanger" in Secrets We Hunt, I was expecting more angst/tension. I also strongly disliked how Owen doesn't even talk about being pansexual/bi/queer. Shouldn't he tell his wife that? Especially considering that she's a virgin, shouldn't he tell her his sexual history?
I would expect that from a straight MMC as well, BTW. But I feel like the cliffhanger in the SWH was almost adjacent to queer-baiting. I thought I was going to get a queer love story (or even a triangle!) but instead, I was met with a disappointing novella.
The smut was meh. Isaly can do better, and has in the past.
I also hated how much Owen's story was teased then ended up being so bland. I wanted more story and more of a plotline.
Games We Play was, in all honesty, an excellent novella because the story and smut tied together beautifully. But this novella felt disjointed and almost like Isaly wasn't sure what to do with these characters.
Owen deserved better after all the teasing. Pyro deserved more screentime. The queer-baiting was not cool. The smut needed a bit more "oomph."
And, most of all, Isaly needed to address the allegations before pretending like the whole thing never happened.
Continuing the ‘One Love’ series, we get to see a little more of Owen. He’s part of a Mafia-family and in one of the previous books it was hinted that he’ll have to get into an arranges marriage. Luckily for Owen it goes really well, and we can follow him fall in love with his new bride Aurora.
I liked Aurora, it feels like we get to see a little more of her and her traumatizing past. We not only see her through Owens eyes but also through her own and it felt genuine to me.
There still isn’t a lot of time for a plot, everything that happens, happens in One night, like in the other books, so of course there’s not much plot and character development, but like the predecessor it was fun and enjoyable.
Me pareció ok.
This is the 3rd installment in the One Night series by Dana! It follows Jack’s friend Owen as he’s about to walk down the aisle to the woman his family has arranged him to marry.
Absolutely loved this one! It’s a novella so of course it’s very much insta love but it was so sweet! Owen was such a softie for Auora and I truly loved every second of it. I feel like he’s the exact person she needed to help build up her confidence. I especially loved the extended epilogue & getting to see the entire gang together! Such found family vibes ❤️
This was just so incredible adorable and smutty. Absolutely loved it. Did not think anyone could top Jack and Quinlan`s book, but honestly? Aurora and Owen are perfect for each other, i can`t even.
Controversy aside, Dana knows how to write a good smutty scene / one night.
This one took me by surprise & probably the most enjoyable so far in the series. I like each book is so different and not her usual style but I loved Aurora. It felt like a short smutty fairytale.
wasn't a fan tbh. the concept was nice but the flow was putting me off. i needed angst with a trope like marriage of convenience. nevertheless, I'm excited for the 4th book. i cant wait to read about the friend group on holiday in tokyo!!
This was surprisingly really good! It could be better if there was more of Aurora, I know it’s a novella but we barely know anything about her or her thoughts. Still very enjoyable.
What a breath of fresh air. Whenever I see a book drop from Dana, I know I'm going to get a darker, kinky, fun book. This book was more on the lighter side. With the exception of the fact that our couple was in an arranged forced marriage due to family mafia ties, the overall vibe in this story was just so sweet.
This is the 3rd book in the One Night series. This series follows a group of friends who are finding love, one by one. These men are dangerous, rich... mostly rich, and are totally alpha. If you are reading these books in order, which only a high functioning sociopath would reach a series out of order... you would know that in the last book Wes was feeling some kind of way about the forced marriage and hooked up with his bestie right before hoping a plane to do the damn thing.
In this story he shows up and the air is knocked out of his lungs from the moment he sees his future wife. The attraction is instant. Owen wants nothing more than to know everything about her, to touch her, to consume her essence and I was here for it. The romance was strong in this one.
Our girl Aurora is described as odd. In reality she has Albinism. This is a genetic mutation that occurs in every 1 to 17,000-20,000 persons, there are less than 1000 documented cases in the world per year. This genetic disorder is the absence of melanin, meaning a person has no color. Their hair and skin is usually white and eye shades range from the palest blue to violet. I think that Dana did a fantastic job presenting Aurora's disorder without making it a thing. There is a very casual conversation that details the adversity she faces both in daily living and in a medical sense. I appreciated that.
This story takes place on the couple's wedding day as well as the day after. I was ready/slightly hoping for Aurora to be super kinky and a female dom like our previous fmc Zoe in The Secrets We Keep (book 2). However, our girl is a virgin!!! Which lead to a more intimate exchange as well as the promotion of open communication and exploration.
I really liked it and look forward to seeing this couple grow within the next few books. I believe we have Greg and Pyro left.
Whff... steamy hot and sensual story. Pure, delightful smut, but with a light running plot of how helplessly enamored the H/h, Owen and Aurora, are with each other following an arranged marriage, Italian mafia style, where they did not meet each other until at the altar. I think this love story should be read through the lense of a very erotic modern fairy tale. Despite being apprehensive before seeing the bride, Owen is immediately and relentlessly under the charm of sweet Aurora - as if he were under some forever enchantment. This is my first read from this author, and the writing is good and flowing.
Though Owen is described as a manho in the blurb, none of it appears in the book (I think it is seen in earlier books of this series). Told almost entirely from Owen's POV, and although his wedding jitters may have pointed to a slightly shallow H (but as he was determined to respect his vows, he seemed already as a decent guy), the novella proved him to be in fact an extremely attentive, caring and considerate H for Aurora (who has the medical condition of albinism). He is immediately possessive and protective of her and only wants to satisfy her every needs. In this fairytale novella, it is certain that he will treat her as his queen for the rest of his life 🥰.
Aurora was sweet, innocent but not so timid virgin h. She has some insecurities due to her condition, but she appeared to withstand it all in grace. Since her POV is missing, she is more difficult to ascertain, but she looks to be the perfect foil to Owen.
This book is as stated essentially smut. Erotic, tasteful and well written smut. The consummation scene is probably the perfect dream scene for any virgin h on her wedding night. *fans self* *swoons* In fact, every new bride deserves such a first time as tender, erotic and scorchingly sensual as in this book, with a side dish of sexy, dirty talk 😍😳🥵 And all the delightful declarations in Italian... Mamma mia ☺🥰
Highly recommanded for readers of good, sensual and fairy tale erotic romance.
P.S. Mafia business is barely mentioned 👍.
P.S.2 While reading, I kept thinking that this book would have made an epic episode of Married at first sight - the real, real, swoony goods 😅
P.S.3 Loved the cover!

The only reason this gets two stars from me is because Owen and Aurora were cute together, and I weirdly loved their wedding scene. Other than that, Burdens We Carry really didn’t do it for me.
There was no drama between them at all. It was straight-up insta-love, which got kinda cringey at times. The spice didn’t hit either. Aurora being a virgin is whatever, but the way she’d ask these overly naïve questions ruined the mood. Like, why would you ask, “Did I just pee on you?” during an intimate moment? Nope.
The whole story just felt rushed and unrealistic. Owen’s dread about the arranged marriage disappears in literally five minutes once he sees Aurora, decides she’s hot, and is suddenly cool with being a husband and having kids. It didn’t feel believable, and there was zero character development.
