Being an Extra Actor in an Escape Game

Rate this book
Xu Beijin is an extra in the game ‘Escape.’ His usual role is to lie on the floor to be the corpse, while observing how the Missiontakers scratch their heads to figure out a way to survive.

All the other extras work extremely hard as if trying to win the next Oscar’s in order to leave this cruel, despairing world; while Xu Beijin has a simple, monotonous, tedious life.

Until one day, he picked up a streaming system…

Xu Beijin’s life has been entirely upended.

While lying on the floor as a corpse, the audience goes “AAAAAAAH Host what’s that behind you uwuwu…”

While he’s reading the script out loud, the audience goes “Hehehe Beibei’s so cute acting all serious! I want to lick!”

While he’s working hard to figure out the truth about this world, the audience goes “Today our Bei is also the hardworking Bei!”

While he’s… he’s working hard dating Lin Qin, the audience goes “?!?! This isn’t the horror game stream I signed up for!”

"Me encantará crear nuevos recuerdos contigo.
Para llenar tu lienzo en blanco una vez más; para llenar tu vida de alegría."✨

I love love love little apple and beibei so much. I love all of their interactions, however small it was lol. It was a much needed fluff with the seriousness of the plot.

About the plot, it basically starts with humans being stuck in a escape horror game, where they have to go into different actors' nightmares and clear them to go to the next level of the game, which humans are trying to escape from (no pun intended), we have two factions of humans, mission takers (or player in the game settings) and actor (the one who acts like the catalyst of the game).

Our MC is one of these actors and mostly acts like an NPC in the game providing clue or sometimes just there to fill the rota, MC had no wish to level up and took his acting role as a job to pass his time, that was until MC got hold of the streaming service from the outside world, so now he's trying to connect to the outside world, figure things out and save humanity and get them out of the tower in the process.

The novel has a total of 9 arcs or volume with 6 arcs explaining the various events and introducing the main cast, 7 and 8 are given to them working together and then 9 is our extras for mc and ml

With the reviews about it being dragged although I agree that at some part it was slow and sometimes too exaggerated and detailed, it all makes sense in the end and helps us understand the climax better.

So I hope people will like it as much as I, someone, who doesn't like mystery novels but still loved it did

Great plot. The author did a really good job of leading readers to the answers before revealing them. Though some parts of the ending were surprising, there were still hints that made sense in hindsight. There's a large cast of side characters who are all relevant, especially in the last two arcs where they all play significant roles, and the story probably wouldn't have worked without them. This is pretty rare in stories with one main mc (as far as I've read) and it's one of the reasons I liked this story so much.

The horror-mystery aspect was also done well (though not as scary as it was often through the eyes of our 'NPC' mc) though it does turn more focused on the mystery as the story progresses. Plus, the MC's relationships are built on actual meaningful conversations, so it was clear how the cast went from uncomfortable strangers to allies, friends or lovers.

The author probably could have had a cleaner delivery regarding the comprehension of some scenes, especially in the final arc. However, plot and character-wise, it was still really good.

I changed this from 'on hold' to 'dnf', because, let's be real, I was never gonna pick this back up.

The start was interesting but I honestly got so bored at that weird 'dystopian' (?) arc about the guy and his bread or something lol. I kept going because it seemed like the slow plot was FINALLY getting a move on but sorry I can't anymore. That weird 'end-of-the-world' arc where everyone turned crazy literally killed me, bye. (If you can't tell I haven't read this in like a year so I can't really remember the plot that well, lol ).

My god this was unnecessarily long.
As an infinite flow lover I must say... This was very underwhelming.
I don't mind the sci fi elements but the plot was convoluted and the character development non existent. Everyone felt as 2d as actual characters in a game.
In the beginning I thought this might be a good novel for those who are not yet familiar with infinite flow books. As someone whose first read was Mist I can assert that this genre can be tough and yes, convoluted. But this one seemed light and easy.... Oh boy was I wrong.
A god IF novel is justifiably convoluted this was not the case here. The author just kept adding filler dialogue and povs and the repeated paragraphs amounted to half of the book... Yes, the translation was clunky but the translator did what they could with what they had which was... This masterpiece of hope and repetitiveness. I'm very disappointed with this read... I feel empty after 3000k pages of plain characters and a plot that was infuriating... Wait, not the plot. The plot was good the infuriating thing was the execution. Yes, that's it.
Maybe when the author gets more experienced they can revision this book and polish all the coincidences, bugs and nonsense.

One star for the nice idea although badly executed and one star for the most sweet little wild apple out there...
