Liv has been tormented for the past five weeks with fevers, mood swings, and a crushing disappointment. After the killings were solved she thought she would return to her old self, and go back to work not caring about much; but her fever won’t go away, and she’s actually started to black out from it. Not only that, Jared hasn’t contacted her, and Luke seems to be keeping a strange distance as well. Everything goes from bad to worse when Dr. Wineman shows up on her doorstep and tells her that her fever is a symptom of her Change, and she’s going through the process of becoming Eidolon. What Eidolon though is a mystery, and nobody seems to recognize what she’s turning into. There have also been a recent string of animal attacks, and a government agency that nobody has heard of has stepped in to help. They begin to look into the deaths, and are led straight to Liv. She shrugs them off, but now when she blacks out she’s started to see visions of people dying, real people. And she’s started to be overcome with an inexplicable urge to follow, and help, the killer no matter the cost.
Miles is a Sun Scorpio with the heart of a Moon Pisces. She began her publishing journey in 2012, admittedly maybe a little too soon. Her eclectic taste comes through in each book she writes, ranging from soft fantasy romances to dark brooding poetry to serial killers that hold a grudge.
The first book was so amazing, it hooked me into wanting the second one as soon as I reached the last page. My reason for loving it so quickly was because Liv had a mind with no patience; she saw the obvious and called it out, figuring things out before anyone else. In this installment, that gets washed away when she accidentally poisons herself with a venom that begins to change her into something... unknown.
The plot to save her (human) life before she dies or Turns was great because we saw more action and more 'romance' via Jared, though in my opinion, he's just too weird and she's just too conservative and dense, though while infected, she was pretty awesome in getting under his skin. *winks* Everything was as great as the first, with the exception of my main gal now being as slow as the rest of the characters, if not less, all because of her venom.
Oh WOW! another great installment into the life of Liv and the Eidolon. It was really good like the first one!
Liv is one hell of a girl. She would definitely make a great private investigator. She somehow reminds me of Bo from the Canadian show Lost Girl in the way she'd never listen to anyone telling her to just stay put and protecting her.
The plot goes like this: After clearing her Eidolon BF Luke's name from the killings in Shadeland, another killings started happening again. At the same time, Liv is transforming into an Eidolon. Liv has to deal with those things along with her connection to the bounty hunter Jared, who left her by the end of the first book.
Fenridge, introduced another character, Nessan, Liv's brother, who 4 years ago turned Eidolon, in particular, a werewolf. At first I wasn't really fond of him but looking at the context of bringing Liv's family into the story this time to be suitable for his introduction. I did warm up to him. He took Luke's place most of the time, so I missed the good Fae Eidolon to be honest, even when he doesn't do anything ;P.
As I said, it focused on Liv's attempt to bring out the killer to justice and fight the Change along with other emotional burden she suffered. So, compared to the first book, there's less Jared and Luke, and more other new faces. Even with that, the story was really gripping and interesting. I had a hunch about who the killer was and glad it was right. By the end, it all works out like it always does with Liv, and with a good line to make my hands itch to get the third one now.
After reading the first book in The Ethereal Crossings, Shadeland, I could not wait to read Fenridge!
Fenridge begins a few weeks after Shadeland ended. Liv once again becomes caught up in a murder/mystery, because she just can't resist. ;)
Liv is still an awesome main character, she's goes through a lot in this book, many changes. Much of what she thought she knew about her family and friends, turns about to be wrong, and the reader feels a lot of sympathy for her. The relationship between her and Jared also takes a step up, which will please readers who have been rooting for this romance.
We are introduced to some new Eidolons as well. And more of Liv's family, we also learn a few interesting things about her past.
The paranormal/fantasy elements of this series jump right off the page. The author presents an exciting world of supernatural creatures that blends with our own. There are tons of surprises and unexpected twists.
D. L. Miles is a great writer who keeps the reader turning pages! I am anxiously awaiting book #3!

I enjoyed this but not quite as much as the first one because for half the book Liv is not acting like Liv. There is a perfectly good reason why, indeed it is central to the plot of the novel but what I liked so much about the first book was Liv's character and how observant she was. Fortunately things picked up once
Does this character not like anything? She doesn't have favorite hobbies or interests and I found her rather rude. This dragged on and had to stop and pick it up again to see if it got any better. It didn't.
