It was bad, but I can explain. My wife got it from the neighborhood book trading post and dared me to read it, and just like Jack Dakota the mysteriously sexy bounty hunter, I don’t back down from a challenge. And when it got real bad and my wife told me to stop reading, just like Grace Fontaine the heiress with an attitude I don’t take orders from anyone

I want to start by saying I've read several Nora Roberts books and loved them.

I read Hidden Star before reading this book. I felt that Hidden Star & Captive Star was well done. I liked how the stories ran parallel in the fact that they both went through the events and troubles they went through to find each other again. They were action-packed and full of excitement.

That brings us to Secret Star. I did not this this addition at all. I felt like this story was written just as a "I need to make a 3rd character" kind of book. It follows a girl who is supposed to be the "generous" one. Yes, I get she had her foundation and did stuff with babies that had AIDS & born from drug use. Also, the way she was allowed to hold these NICU babies really made me mad because I am a mom of twins who were born at 34 weeks and spent 2 months in the NICU. I would have NEVER allowed some person that is not a hospital employee even come near, much less touch, my boys in that setting! It actually really pissed me off she was even allowed to do that. But, the character didn't go through any of the trials the other 2 did and the story starts after those 2 found each other because the 3rd girl was just off on vacation celebrating 4th of July happily while her friends were fighting off bad people. In my opinion, she is just a stuck-up, pretty, rebellious, rich snob. I actually couldn't stand her and everyone being "oh she's so beautiful and so generous." I am very disappointed in the 3rd book of the series. It could have been done without the rich girl that has nothing better to do than presue a cop and spend all her money fixing up her house. I get she was needed to bring in the rich villain, but I thought it was just annoying.

This book held my attention with an intriguing story, but it didn’t quite reach the level of storytelling I adored. The storyline felt a bit lackluster at times, and it was frustrating to discover that this was part of a trilogy—with a prequel that I hadn’t read. The fragmented storytelling made me wish all three parts had been combined for a more cohesive narrative.

While I enjoyed the witty banter between the characters, the inclusion of magic toward the end felt out of place and somewhat abrupt. It didn’t seamlessly integrate into the story and left me puzzled.

Although it’s not a new favorite, it was an entertaining way to pass the time. Nora Roberts once again showcases her talent for weaving suspense, particularly in how she develops the villain. Her knack for building tension is undeniable, even in a story that didn’t completely resonate.

I’ve always been a Nora Roberts fan, so i was glad to discover two stories i hadn’t read. However, i was confused when the story of Bailey and Cade seemed to already have happened but not in this book. Nowhere on the outside of this book or in the description of the two stories featured in the book did it say that these were part of a trilogy. Why didn’t they include all three stories in this book? It wasn’t until after I read this that i dug deeper and discovered that, indeed, there was another story before these. Very frustrating!

This is broken into 2 stories.

Both stories are based on 3 diamonds that are said to have powers.

Mj, Grace and Bailey are best of friends from university and have become
a family.

This is a story of protection, love and fear. Protection of each other, Love
for new people in their lives and fear of the person who is obsessed with
the diamonds.
