Lexy Baker: Books 8-10

Rate this book
This set of 3 novels contains books 8-10 in the Lexy Baker Culinary Cozy Mystery series featuring bakery owner Lexy Baker and her posse if iPad toting senior citizen amateur sleuths.

Books included are:

Scones, Skulls & Scams:

Brook Ridge Falls favorite bakery owner, Lexy Baker, has everything she ever wanted. A new husband she adores. A thriving bakery business. Everything is going great.

... Until a new bakery springs up across the street and tries every trick in the book to put her out of business!

Lexy smells something rotten about the bakery and it isn’t just their stale brownies. When her own bakery is broken into she knows who did it ... but what she can’t figure out is why.

Could the new baker be after her great-grandmothers prize winning scone recipe, or is there another more sinister reason?

Meanwhile ...

A grizzly discovery in the sewer system sends her and her gang of iPad toting grandmas off to solve a decades old crime under the streets of brook ridge falls.

Could a seventy year old crime be related to the new bakery?

Ice Cream Murder:

When millionaire Regis Banks drops dead at his own party, everyone assumes it was from natural causes - after all, the man was celebrating his one-hundredth birthday.... Everyone except Lexy Baker’s amateur sleuth grandmother, Nans, and her three friends, that is. When it turns out that Regis’ death might have been caused by more than just old age, Nans refuses to let the trail grow cold - especially after a local reporter trying to get a scoop threatens to write an article blaming the death on Lexy. It doesn’t take long before Nans and Lexy are up to their eyeballs in suspects. And when those suspects start dropping like flies, Lexy and Nans have to step up their game before the killer claims their next victim.

Mummified Meringues:

Murder hits a little too close to home for bakery owner Lexy Baker when a grim discovery is made in her homicide detective husband, Jack's, basement.

With Jack as the main suspect, Lexy has to turn up the heat and find the real killer while still trying to whip up the perfect meringue cookie recipe for the Brook Ridge Falls Desserts Contest. Normally, she would enlist the aid of her amateur detective grandmother, Nans. Except ...

Nans has a secret and is uncustomarily disinterested in investigating. Not to be daunted, Lexy turns to her iPad-toting posse of grandma sleuths who help her sift through the clues in an investigation that keeps dishing up the most unlikely suspects.

When a surprising twist causes Lexy to suspect those closest to her, it makes her wonder if some things from the past aren't better left alone.

2 ¾ stars

Book 8, "Scones, Sculls & Scams," is four and a half stars worth of redemption from book 7; Book 9, "Ice Cream Murder," shows the main characters as less likeable in a 3-star read; and Book 10 earned one star and convinced me that I am no longer interested in this series. More in-depth reviews are with the individual books.

Lexi is confused by her grandmother

These three books once again have three different criminal cases involving murder. Jack is involved in the last case and relies on the Women’s DetectiveClub to help him out. But the real question in the end is who was the assassin and did Mona know her?
