"I know that I may be frightening, my mate. But beneath all that makes me strange to you, my heart recognizes yours..."

ZOEY

I've spent most of my time on this alien planet alone in the wrecked human ship. So now that I'm living with the other girls and the barbarian warriors at the Cliffs of Uruzai, I'm finding it hard to adjust. These Sea Sand guys are just so... alien.

But they're nothing compared to the monster that comes stalking out of the shadows of the cliffs one night. He has a snout, and claws, and a massive spiked tail. He's more like a crocodile than a man, and even worse than that, he claims he has a human mate. When his dark eyes settle on me, I know with a sinking feeling exactly who it is he's been looking for.

I want to stay as far away from this nine-foot-tall lizard man as I possibly can. But when a mission across the sands throws us together, I find myself spending a lot more time with him than I'd bargained for. And I find myself starting to grow closer to him than I ever would have imagined.

But as my feelings for him grow, so does my fear. Because this mission we're on? It could be the end of him.
The end of both of us, before we even begin.

KOR

I have travelled days upon days to find my soft, strange mate. But now that I have found her, she recoils from me. I am the in-between, the exile, caught halfway between the sea and the sands and the only one of my kind. I am aware that I am strange, but I never thought my own beautiful mate would regard me as a monster.

The Sea Sand men tell me my mate does not feel the mate bond for me. If I am to have her, I must somehow win her. But before I can figure out how to do that, we are forced into a journey to the Bitter Sea. The Sea Sand tribes need me to find my father's people, a race of beings I have never even seen.

Crossing the Bitter Sea is the most dangerous thing I've ever done.
But it is in service of my mate, so I will do it. And I will not hesitate.

I would do anything to keep her safe.
Even if that means tearing myself from her side forever.

2 stars for the scary alligatorman 🐊 🍆

For all the teasing this series has done over this alligator/dinosaur man, this book was very underwhelming. The story was no different than the last few, its fatedmates/instalove for the males who have to then court their females to win their love (it takes, like, a day). The heroine was meh but was the first person of colour in the series so far. She was from Montreal and, even though I think this author is Canadian, she got a lot of the quebecois slang wrong and used euro-french words like mec and putain, so you can tell she relied on Google a whole lot for her information.

The hero was probably the most interesting part of the book but he was just ok. He was a very dramatic and earnest dinosaur/lizard dude, but he was very strange and often I had to try to forget what he was supposed to look like to buy any of this romance. But to the important stuff: his dong.
So aside from the scary Dino-dink, this story was boring overall, and had the sappiest, easily resolved ending so far. I dunno at this point if I will continue with the series, ngl, I only read this far to find out about alligator-man dong. 🤷🏼‍♀️.

So this one was pretty good. Though I was hoping for alot more, considering the mystery surrounding our exiled Kor, but didn't get all that I was hoping or expecting here. This one ended rather abruptly for me too...

I would classify this story as definitely a "filler" book. Only there to move the secondary plot along, more so than Kor and Zoey's story within it. It did an excellent job of moving things along, which is great. But I was also invested in Kor and Zoey and just felt like so much was missing with them. Their story was intense, but it also felt like we were given more of the headlines and not the actual meat of the story concerning them. So this was why I could only give it 4 stars.

This is a very interesting series however, and I'm super eager to learn more about the two tribes we have yet to meet, and the uneasy alliance between the other tribes and Kor's Father's people. Can't wait to see how this will all play out and if Earth's government, that dumped these women here in the first place, will actually come back to try to take what isn't theirs from the natives of this planet.

I would definitely recommend this series. 1st 5 books are currently on KU. Book 6 is slated to be released sometime this month, Jan 2022

So this alien is more Dino/croc to warn you. but if you want to hear the most heart clenching romantic things in the world coming from an alien maw, this is the book for you. Lots of tension, steam, good plot. I cannot wait to read more in this series!

Jesus, Kor was like someone took a painfully sincere romance novel hero and wrapped him up in a big lizard bow.

Like Zoey (the FMC), I started off thinking “uhhh that’s a freaky alien lizard!” and ended being completely charmed by how Kor was so earnestly devoted and romantic. And the way he was so upset with himself for not knowing how to care for a human mate. 🥺

Who am I??

Zoey’s Inner Monologue Needs a Nap

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💚💜💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Chemistry: 🧪🧪🧪
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏
Character development: 😋🙂☺️😘
Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration type: Dual Narration

🦸🏼‍♀️ Heroine: Zoey

Zoey’s journey begins in isolation—stranded in a wrecked spaceship, surviving alone on an alien planet. Her recent move into the Sea Sand settlement marks a shift from solitude to uneasy community. Unlike the other human women who’ve bonded with the alien warlords, Zoey remains guarded, overwhelmed by their towering physiques and unfamiliar customs. Thanks to a mysterious white goo, she now understands their language, but emotional fluency proves harder. Just as she begins to feel safe, a human drone appears in the village—shattering her fragile sense of security.

🦸🏻‍♂️ Hero: Kor

Kor is no Sea Sand warlord. He’s a hybrid—part Sea Sand, part unknown race—raised in secrecy by a mother who feared the violence of her own kind. When the Kell grants him a vision of Zoey, he knows she’s his mate and sets out across treacherous terrain to find her. Kor’s appearance is striking: reptilian blue skin, claws, a spiked tail, and a height that dwarfs even the Sea Sand warriors. He’s a walking contradiction—feared as a monster, yet driven by reverence, restraint, and a deep yearning for connection.

🔥 Plot Snapshot

Kor’s backstory adds emotional weight: a stolen mother who grew to love her captor, a childhood spent in hiding, and a mate bond that calls him to risk everything. His approach to Zoey is cautious, shaped by his parents’ fraught history. When a drone threatens her, Kor reacts instinctively, destroying it with a spear and revealing himself to the Sea Sand warriors. Their response is tense but respectful; Kor invokes the lavrika, a sacred calling they recognize. It’s a moment that blends myth, danger, and destiny.

❤️‍🔥 What Worked

• Kor’s emotional depth is a standout. Despite his beastly exterior, he’s tender, thoughtful, and self-aware. The author does a great job of letting Zoey—and the reader—see past the scales and claws.
• The romance unfolds through a journey, both physical and emotional. I’m always here for a dangerous trek that forces characters to rely on each other and grow together.

🤨 Room for More

• Kor’s appearance veers so far into the monstrous that it strains the imagination. I found myself mentally reshaping him into something more humanoid just to stay engaged—which pulled me out of the story.
• Zoey’s fixation on Kor’s looks became repetitive. Her internal monologue circled the same points so often that it dulled the emotional impact. A little less “he’s so huge and scary” and a little more “who is he really?” would’ve gone a long way.

🎧 Narration Vibes

Patrick Zeller and Aletha George deliver a solid dual performance. George’s voice is youthful and clear, perfectly capturing Zoey’s vulnerability and resilience. Zeller’s deep cadence suits Kor’s alien gravitas, adding texture to his internal conflict. While neither narrator cracked my top tier, they both brought sincerity and polish to the story.

📝 Final Thoughts

This audiobook blends alien romance with emotional introspection, giving us a heroine who’s learning to trust and a hero who’s desperate to be seen. While the physical descriptions sometimes overwhelm the emotional arc, the story finds its footing in the bond between two outsiders. If you enjoy mate bonds, dangerous journeys, and love that defies appearances, this one’s worth the listen—just be prepared to mentally dial down the claws.

2.5⭐ (Added a half star for the MMC)
I'm not sure what's wrong with me. I previously read 2 from this series and didn't care for them. Why would I pick a third? I was promised a sweet, cinnamon roll hero. Well, I got it, but had to slog through a lot of mediocre writing and a huge amount of repetition. This book could have been 100 pages shorter and not changed at all.

Did I love Kor? Oh, hells yes. Zoey. Oh man. She is TSTL. The stunt she pulled at the end should earn her a Darwin Award.

Vow to self: No more Ursa Dax.

5/5

Virgin hero + Virgin heroine
Fated mates
No other woman/man drama

Short, sweet and fast pasted.
Mild angst: mention of parental deaths

Hero is physically more animalistic compared to the other heroes of the series.

I do recommend it! 👌🏻👌🏻

Oh my god… Kor, my sweet crocodile boy 🥺🥺

I am just so happy he’s happy. My heart - wow. I am emotionally invested. Really emotionally invested. I’m just so glad he has friends and family and loooove.

The world building continues to evolve and we get hints of other people on the planet and their own customs. Intriguing.

I’m devouring this series much faster than I anticipated doing honestly. It’s giving what it needs to give. As a sci-fi romance that I group with Ruby Dixon’s Fireblood Dragon series and IPB. I’m getting all the devoted male that is hallmark to this sub genre and I’m loving it. On the plus side, we have one woman of colour on the board. Zoey is a Black French-Canadian woman. Folks, we finally did it.

Having said that, Zoey is the only woman of colour in the entire series. Just … interesting, is all.

This is my favorite book of the series (so far). Kor was ridiculously sweet.

This book also marks a turning point for the series as now the two peoples of the planet (people of the Sand Seas and people of the Bitter Seas) have met and war is on the horizon - potentially from two different fronts.

I'm looking forward to the release of the next book in the series.

Its cute, I’ve got into this thing of just surprising myself with who is the next couple so I don’t check when it ends like this one did until I’m about to start it.

*edit I checked the next book.. apparently the dude has had a mate already. Not excited about it tbh 😂😂

Another fun one! Just when I think I’m getting desensitized to weird alien monsters and nothing will surprise me, we got this hero 😆

If anyone comes for my sweet baby angel: nine foot tall, Godzilla-look-alike, Kor… they’ll have to get though me first 🥹

Not me getting all teary-eyed over a bonkers, read-in-one-day alien romance. This had my favourite amount of action danger and sweet emotions, aka maximum of both.

Loved the adventures. Loved watching our heroine fall for someone who externally monstrous but so internally sweet. The overall series plot arc was also heating up, and I’m here for it!

And then there were 9 foot tall crocodile looking dudes with spiky rings around their dicks. *blinks* I mean, yeah, it's a lot but ok fine.

Series: It's a straight up alien soap opera and I'm ok with that. I think it was interesting to come at this familiar trope (human women kidnapped and thrust onto alien planet for REASONS) instead making the kidnapping as part of a mission to explore a strange new world (ok I just kept doing the Star trek opening, but you get what I mean).

The women end up being a reason for separate tribes on the planet Zaphrinax to come together because of the hope of repopulating their numbers with the human women, as opposed to the typical alien villains kidnapping women for sexual slavery etc. The worldbuilding is enough to keep me engaged without getting lost in the minutiae. And the overarching storyline continues to build. I'm digging it, kinda the way I like IPB. Getting to know the Sea Sand folx and their Lavrika's blood that fixes everything, and the survivalist aspect, seeing how the human women are fragile yet determined to make it on this deadly planet. They were all selected for this "mission" because of their particular skillsets and that makes the individual stories click along. It can be a little predictable but I like the comfort factor of that predictability since the physicality and the sheer weird factor of the planet itself keeps things hopping.

This Book: what do I say about Kor?
description
With the kangaroo dudes, it's easier for me to go with the fantasy but I will admit I struggled with Kor. His love for Zoey was sweet and all so the story still worked but the physical aspect was more distracting than I wanted, not gonna lie. Not bad, just not my fave. Onto the next.

I stumbled across Ursa Dax and her romance Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series after finishing up reading books from another author. I wanted something a bit different from normal romance and decided that Sci Fi romance was the go because anything can go. Let me tell you I really enjoyed them and read the whole series one straight after the other,
Alien men in all sizes and shapes, all growly and protective of their mates was just what I needed. Of course, it takes a while for the abducted Human women to come around but that is just part of the fun.
Ursa’s world building makes it so easy to imagine the world she has created, and the characters are so easy to fall in love with.
If you love Sci Fi romance that is messy, sexy, a little alien erotica and fated mates then Ursa is your gal.
I was not disappointed, and I know you won’t be either.

This was the strangest book I have ever read.
I could still understand the aliens that had a tail, but a half crocodile / man and then his penis coming out like a crocodile's and his face looking like one's. He basically looked like one, she had sex with him like one, basically she had sex with a crocodile.
Ok, that was just to weird for me, although I read the whole book. The writing was not bad, a few spelling mistakes here and there but overall the book was just too weird for my tastes.

⌠ ★★★★☆ ⌡

i have to say, i was a bit apprehensive about this book due to the love interest’s appearance (i know! i know! i just couldn’t stop picturing an actual crocodile 😭) BUT i am glad i finally got to it.

the hero was so romantic and he definitely pulled at my heartstrings. the juxtaposition between his rough and frightening appearance and his soft spoken and gentle heart definitely had me in a chokehold. in addition to this, his dedication and devotion to winning his mate over was just ✨🤌🏽chefs kiss 🤌🏽✨. one thing about ms. dax, she’s going to write swoon worthy love interests. no doubt. every word out of this man’s mouth had me like this “🥹” or like this “😭”. i liked the way this romance developed because it required a little more interacting from both characters than previously.

also, i know it’s common for heroines to make crazy choices and decisions but zoey really had me STRESSED. *slight spoiler* there’s a scene where she goes to find kor and she has to go into the ocean for this. let’s keep in mind, she doesn’t know how to swim and she risks her life by building a raft out of tree branches and seaweed. yes, TREE BRANCHES and SEAWEED. like girl plsssss. that is my one and only complaint because other than that, zoey is smart, kind, and resourceful.

overall, this book definitely stands out from the others because in this book the heroine is genuinely afraid and absolutely unsure about the love interest. in the previous books, the heroines had some interest and curiosity about the sea sand men. the author does a good job at balancing the confrontation, romance, mystery, and action into 300+ pages.

This was the cringiest, most eye-rolling couple I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading.

So many typos. Paragraph after paragraph of repetition. Absolutely nothing these characters did made sense. I struggled with the imagery of what Kor looked like, one minute he was described like a crocodile, then Godzilla numerous times…it made picturing him difficult imo. Insta-love (I mean this in the literal sense. Kor was proclaiming his undying love after the first meeting). I got whiplash from how fast Zoey changed her mind about him; one minute it was ‘I will NEVER let him touch me’ to suddenly whipping off her clothes less than twenty pages later. The pacing in general was weird and all over the place. Also, I guessed every step their relationship took, which made the spice scenes boring and frankly, unfulfilling. I skipped over all of them 🤷🏻‍♀️

Too much Chapman and Fallo too; my least favourite couple in the series. Well, second now.

2 stars because I enjoyed the beginning and how Jara left with them at the end. But that’s it.

As for continuing the series, I quite liked Teresa from what we’ve seen of her, so I MAY give the next one a go.

I think I prefer the later books better! This one just didn't work for me. The hero was too lovesick for the heroine. He constantly apologized about everything. For being monstrous, for not being good enough for Zoey, for not doing something right, for how he looked etc. It got annoying. And this felt very insta love and fast burn IMO. The pacing was kind of weird but I cant put my finger on why. Also the ending felt so abrupt? Instead of the bitter sea guy coming back with them, it ends with the gahns meeting him and a few of his warriors at the same time? I would have liked to see more interaction with the new tribe??

Reread: I skimmed a bit. This wasn't bad. I liked Kor, I just wasn't as interested in this story. I wish the transition from disgust to interest to attraction/love was slower for the FMC! It feels very unrealistic.

Maybe it's just the sampling I have read, but I would love to see Ursa Dax do a real slow burn romance. I was excited by the blurb and concept but not a fan of execution. Sure Zoey is hesitant when she first sees Kor but the first time she has a conversation with him she's pretty down and the second time she is fully dtf. I liked the sharing of music and dance, very cute. When Zoey confesses her love I just don't buy it. Dax does it a lot where she says "he worked so hard to earn my love" kinda thing but he's just been close by for two days and the relationship hasn't developed in any way that is earned. I feel like Dax creates these great little moments and it's always rushing between them to the point where the overall story suffers.

I'm in love with this MC

Never would I have thought I'd become so defensive over a half croc male love interest, but damnit, we will protect Kor at all costs. This story is the perfect "never judge a book by its cover" sort of love.

.This was such a beautiful book. It was a solid and immensely enjoyable quick read as well. I have to say, Kor set my standards pretty high for the other men to come. I love this man, he had me crying and swooning and ready to cut a bitch.

Zoey's been abducted from earth with other expendable women and tasked with investigating what resources a distant planet might have. But as soon as they touch down, everything goes south. The ship is attacked and the soldiers guarding them ripped apart by giant crab-like monsters, leaving the women abandoned to their fate. Rescued from certain death by seven foot tall aliens, the women have found themselves living with the Warriors of the Sea Sands, a humanoid race who are short on women, and big into following the will of the 'Lavrika', a magical dragon-like creature that shows a lucky few who their fated mate is. Unlucky for the women, the Lavrika is deciding that each of the women is destined to be with a giant kangaroo-like man.

Even though four of her friends have fallen in love with alien warriors, Zoey can't see that happening to her. The last thing she wants is a seven foot tall boyfriend with a tail. However there's a creature lurking in the night, who not only has eyes for Zoey, but also a snout, claws, and a massive spiked tail...

Kor has lived in exile all his life. His father came from beyond the Bitter Sea, and followed the call of his people's Lavrika, the "Kell" to seek out a woman from a race he did not even know existed. After abducting his mother and having Kor, he knew that neither of their races would accept him, so the family stayed hidden, Kor's mother raising him after his father died.

But now, called by the Kell and shown a vision of Zoey, Kor has no choice but to search for his mate, not knowing that the mating bond does not work the same for human women. Kor may be in love with Zoey, but she's horrified to discover a nine foot crocodile man has put her at the centre of his entire world.

If that isn't bad enough, a new enemy has arrived, and threatens to destroy everyone on the planet. The only solution is to get Kor to seek out his father's people and ask for their help - that is, if they don't kill him on sight. As Zoey travels with Kor to the shores of the Bitter Sea, she starts to see her alien suitor in a whole new way. But has she found love only to lose it all?

Alien Exile is another fabulous book in the Fated Mates of the Sea Sand Warlords series. Ursa Dax is a phenomenal writer. Her worldbuilding is incredible, and each character she writes leaps off the page into your heart. Her writing is poetic, powerful and emotive and once I start reading one of her books, I cannot put it down. Her heroes are Universal Fantasy butter, that will make your heart soar and your underwear melt. One of the most beautiful aspects of alien romance books, and Alien Exile in particular, is that the human heroines fall for with their alien heroes in spite of what they look like. Kor may look like a nine foot godzilla, but his words and his actions show what lies beneath the claws and fangs, and his heart and the content of his character is what Zoey falls in love with.

If you want a hero who will tear the world in two to protect you, and devote their life to your happiness, then you need to read this book.

"I have travelled days upon days upon days to get here. Half an age spent crossing the desert to find her, searching with no map and no plan beyond the beauty of her face, hanging in the stars before me, leading me onward. You can brand me a liar if you wish. You can exile me as I have been exiled my entire life. But know this: the greatest truth, the only truth, that rules my life now, is her."

💙 “You are my dream. My shrine. The only star I will ever follow, ever worship.”
~~~
Zoey is an engineer. She’s spent most of her time alone on the planet, but now she’s joined the other girls and the Sea Sand warriors. I loved how sweet, kind, brave and soft she was. And she’s quite the resourceful and smart woman. She’s so wonderful and I loved her so much!
And Kor… Oh, Kor… Such a sweet and amazing lizard man! He's a big, strong, fiercely protective and fearsome warrior. But, oh, there’s so much more to him! He’s such a caring, thoughtful, selfless, patient and devoted male. And every word that came out of his mouth just melted my heart! I wanted to grab him, hug him and never let him go! I absolutely adored everything about this male!
Everything that happened between Zoey and Kor was so wonderful! I loved their amazing chemistry and scorching hot passion. And I absolutely adored that Zoey was able to see beyond Kor’s “monstrous” appearance and discover the magnificent male he truly is. They were absolutely perfect for each other and I loved every second of their journey towards happiness and love.
Even more, we get to travel beyond the sands and discover fearsome new species. The storyline was phenomenal and kept me glued to the pages till the very end. And with the upcoming threat, the new discoveries and alliances, I cannot wait to see what will happen next.
Overall, Alien Exile is a marvellous story of hope, acceptance and love. It’s another magnificent addition to the series filled with danger, adventure, suspense, fast-paced action, twists, scorching hot romance and outstanding characters.
I couldn’t put it down and absolutely loved every page of it!
I am only about 30% of the way into it and I already hate a few things about it.
1- I called it from the last book that Kat's stupidity in wanting to study the Lavrika's blood was going to bring the other humans. Of course in this book she does exactly that from the lab on the crashed ship and not even a few hours later a drone magically shows up?
2- Zoey is completely useless as a character. How did she even get chosen for this mission is beyond me. She's not particularly smart for one and two, she's weak and scared of everything. I have no idea how Kor is going to win her over when she's basically scared of her own shadow. Also she is very whiny with the whole "I just want to go home" bit and her believing that the return of the other humans would lead them to going home because she's an idiot.
3- Probably my most hated point to put out there was the manipulation of Kor. I already strongly disliked Chapman and the fact that she's manipulating Kor into joining them as allies and wanting him to go bring his father's tribe into the alliance - all the whole dangling Zoey in front of him as a carrot sickens me. She and Fallo truly do belong together as they are both disgusting and evil.
4- Yet again with things being repetitive... example Kor mentioning more than once how his mother was of the sands and his father was of the bitter sea and how he just took her without a care in the world. Or how Zoey mentions many times that her parents died... I am not even half way through the book and it's already annoying.
Will I finish the book? Probably. More than likely yes because I was planning on reading the whole series but I doubt this one will get more than a 2 or a low 3 (only being saved because so far I like Kor)
Also as someone from Montreal it's a bit insulting with the way some of the typical Quebecer words are used. Normally if the person is English they don't sweat in French and I get that the author is trying to make it seem like this character is from Montreal with some flavor text but it's a bit insulting to be reduced to stereotypes. I have expect Zoey to come out and start saying"Eh" and talking about beer and poutine, or praising the Canadians or something. It's so lame... I have to say later in the book she does in fact say "Eh" and she does also compare her legs to cheese curds and gravy... Yeah.. no real Montrealer thinks like that and it's sorta offensive. I'm really struggling here to actually enjoy this book at this point because of all of this, even though I do like Kor and all. I might just skip over her POVs just to be able to finish the damn thing or I might just bail all together.
By the end of the book, I can't say my opinion of Zoey changed at all but Kor did save the story for me. He and his mother Jara were fantastic.
