Brandon Ellis was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up on the outskirts of the city in a little town known as Gladstone, where he graduated high school and moved on to college. After studying Therapeutic Bodywork at East-West College of the Healing Arts, he excelled in his field, becoming one of the Pacific Northwest's leading Therapeutic teachers and bodywork professionals. After several years, the love for writing tugged at his heart so much that he decided to put things aside and live his passion - write. He's now fashioning story after story, creating imaginative worlds of inspiration and art.
Brandon Ellis and Max Wolfe make a dynamite combination. Horizon Protocol is packed with heart thumping special ops action and mysterious flying hardware that doesn't behave like anything seen before.
Jackson Stone and Alabama Wren work for the ultra-secret Polaris corporation. Jackson isn't quite sure whether he's working for the good guys or the bad guys, all he knows is that he's been given another chance to work.
Dr. Alabama Wren is close lipped, competent and highly sarcastic. She's carrying secrets she's not ready to tell. Although she's been assigned to partner with Jackson, she has serious reservations about him.
Horizon Protocol scoops you up, deposits you in a world where nothing is as it seems. Racing ahead at light speed, each curve in the story will leave you biting your nails, wondering how this could possibly resolve.
And this is just the first book in the series! I can't wait to see what happens next.
Rogue organizations battle each other with world-altering consequences - 4 stars
Jackson Stone and Dr. Alabama Wren are selected by the head of Polaris, Patrick Hill. They are to solve a mystery involving an unidentified flying object that seems to have caused some bizarre deaths. Jackson and Alabama are first-time partners and have several issues to work out which helps to get the story going.
Hunter Flynn is the face of a rival organization known as "Eclipse". Flynn seems to enjoy killing people - a bad guy from the get-go. But there is more. Much more.
There are many attacks on Jackson and Alabama as well as nearby civilians. Innocent people including religious monks are killed. Safe houses filled with military-grade goods and piles of cash are destroyed wreaking havoc on nearby buildings. Destruction and killing are only the beginning.
When Hunter and Alabama see the rumored UFO, you will be hooked. What is going on and to what end? The answer will be procured only by reading the exciting adventure. You will be given many clues, many of which don't make sense. The overall plot becomes clear only near the end and it is worth it.
I had trouble keeping the characters straight as the first name references became last name references. You will know some of the characters' medical history. You may have to set aside a few scientifically-founded beliefs and accept a few miracle healings along the way as this high-energy adventure jumps from location to location.
It is easy to be caught up in the high-flying UFO, its eerie mission and the tension between two adults. Above all, you will realize that Polaris people are committed to "mission first, mission last".
..guide our life. The desire to have a deep relationship is on the love end. And the soul mate level, well, some say soulmates are for eternity. There’s lots of action here, very complex and deep plot, layered and unfolding in sections. But the relationship between Alabama and Dubois/Jackson is the thing here. Jackson lost his soulmate wife, and Alabama lost her soulmate Dubois. Jackson has Dubois’ heart, and neither know! Is there a future for them? Or do the dead come between them? Can we have a second soulmate. Ahhh, that’s the question!
What a story. It grabbed me from the beginning and I had a hard time putting it down. In this first book we meet Jackson and Alabama as they investigate some odd things that are happening. Once started had to keep reading to figure out what was going on, how it all fit, and who the good guys and bad guys were. Lots of action, unknown, danger, twists, and some mystery and suspense added just for fun. Really good story that mixed a bunch of story elements very well.
I like most of Brandon Ellis’s books. His writing and storytelling has improved with every new book. The story started slowly. However the more I read the more I got sucked in. Don’t expect a lot of character development as, after all, I read most sci-fi for the good story. I liked this story as the authors mixed genres in an interesting way. I was surprised about how fast I read the book and am looking forward to the next installment.
I loved this book! It's so well written, with obvious care given to tone and developing the characters. Alabama captured my heart from the very beginning. I loved her empathic abilities and powerful personality.
Horizon Protocol is one of those books where you better keep your wits about or loose it as the action is fast, often misleading and subtle clues abound as to what is really going on. Central to this all is a UFO enthusiast, Jackson Stone, ably assisted by a Dr. Alabama Wren with a unique mental talent, that of empathy. She can also switch to being a cold-blooded killer in an instant. Both are agents of a top secret agency called Polaris. The plot? That fits in right in the midst of lots of theories by UFO conspiracy theorists. And you are guaranteed to be puzzled every chapter by the things happening to and around the mentioned main characters. But you will not be bored as you try to fit the puzzle pieces into some kind of understandable knowledge. Enjoy.
I was actually looking for another space opera, military venture, and while this doesn't fit that bill, I'm really glad I picked it up! This pans out as a black ops Sci-fi mystery, and has a lot of excitement and suspense.
In addition, there are hints of romance and sexual tension that appeal to the feminine reader, with promises of more to come. I'm downloading the next book right now!
We have our hero, and heroine, handsome and beautiful, of course. Fighting to save the human race from... what? That is for them to find out, and they're is plenty going on. The fight to survive, fighting special forces, but they are trained. Easy to follow action and plenty of it.
I started this book on 12/13/21 and finished on 3/21/22, I picked up and put it down numerous times. The story In MHO was hard to get into, there are too many unknowns to get a good grasp of the characters and the plot. One and done.
This was a departure for Brandon Ellis to write and so worth the read. I am confused about the ending (without giving things away) and not sure about Stone and Dubois and what kind of experiments were done to him. But that could just be me. The concept of this story was very interesting and fast paced. Typical military in the need-to-know department. I want to know more. Now I can't wait to start reading the next book in the series.
Characters were shallow, plot made little sense, and I'm pretty sure I am done with this series. I read to the end, hoping they would tie the threads together, but alas! Not sure these 2 make an effective writing team. It was sort of like they both wrote separate stories then tried to mish them together.
Brandon Ellis's first foray into the thriller genre was action packed, with many twists and turns. Fans of XFiles and Fringe will enjoy this. Looking forward to the next one!
Alien Mystery Thriller Slow, about 2 agents on a mission. Confusing at times. Aliens that can heal or kill. Transfer of souls. The last few chapters are the most interesting, once you get past all the concepts that are rolled into this story.
