This story was a little hard for me to follow. It could be just me; I had a little bit of a hard time keeping the story line and the characters straight, but I really enjoyed the basis of the story though and that's what kept me reading. The story is suspenseful, shocking, gruesome and yet I couldn't stop reading it. I really enjoyed the story despite the macabre subject matter. I am looking forward to more from this author.
Two years this book sat on my shelf. I hesitated to read it because I saw somewhere it was a sequel to the author's first book. And it kind of is, but it's a complete stand alone story with just a few mentions of things that happened in the previous book. Most of the chapters are short which made it a really fast paced story. There's brutal imagery, but nothing overly gory if that makes sense. There's a little bit of the supernatural to the story, but it's not the main focus, more of an enhancement to a good old fashioned serial killer story. Really enjoyed it and now I have to read the previous book.
Nails by K J Sargeant ⭐⭐⭐⭐ TW: sexual assault and graphic details of violence.
Once again K J Sargeant has surprised me. This story is a brilliantly creepy horror which takes no prisoners. Detailing scenes of blood and gore with a deplorable villain Nails is perfectly horrific.
Characters from his first novel Grace and Maddox are re-visisted with a new mystery to solve, the kidnapping of the young and beautiful Jessie. Entering a psychic who can sense ghosts, Detective Grace find herself in a race against time to save Jessie and capture an atrocious beast of a man.
This story does not disappoint and this author uses his knack for metaphors to brilliantly describe each scene. Missing limbs, rotten corpses, and the smell of death strong enough to curdle dairy is just a small potion of the gruesome sights this book with give you.
This one is certainly the one to grab if you're a lover of Stephen King and other fantastic thriller authors.
This was a Great concept for a horror novel and had great thriller elements. The characters were what I was hoping for and were written really well. I was invested in what was going on. K. J. Sargeant wrote this well and I'm glad I got to read this.
