When Alastair Stone chooses to remain in captivity to save his son, he has no idea how much his life is about to change.
While he does manage to break free from his bizarre prison, his newfound freedom doesn’t come without a price. Everything around him is different—the world, his friends, what he thinks he knows about what he left behind. And despite all the power he commands, he can’t do a thing to fix any of it.
Worse, he’s still bound by an oath he made to his captor—and that contract is now coming due.
Still adjusting to the upheaval that is his life, Stone heads to a pair of tiny, remote towns that share a deadly secret. If he can’t figure out what his captor wants from the towns and find a way around it, hundreds of people could die.
And that isn’t even the worst part.
Welcome to your new world, Dr. Stone. You’d better get up to speed fast.

Awakening, Alastair Stone Chronicles #28 By R.L. King
I loved this episode, which showcased the main character doing his thing without the help of his magical and mundane friends. That's not to say he doesn't have help, but the help comes from people he meets along the way. It also introduced characters that may reappear later in the series.
Good plotting, pacing, and flow. The proofing was excellent, and I only made one error note. I did have a couple of spots where I engaged in a spirited argument with myself as to whether a noun was singular or plural, and if the verb matched. Since I couldn't just call the author and ask her thinking, I decided that it could be either, so whether the verb was correct or not was moot. The only error appeared at 4165 on my Kindle: "The only think we've got to talk about is who did this."
Overall, it was a very enjoyable read that did not have a cliffhanger ending, but that left the door wide open for adventures to come.
Have been a fan since the first book an will continue to read them all. I struggled with the first part of this as too much waffle regarding the dream aspect stroke imprisonment but when he gets out the action starts!! I’m a big fan of (Harrison ) the traveller an kolinsky can’t wait for the next book to see what Aldwyns plans are for stone. Definitely worth the read but only if your a fan
If you haven't gotten into the Alastair Stone world you are totally missing out. This was book 28 and just as crazy, insightful and awesome as book 1 was. There was so much left at the end of the last one and this started way different but then each page brought new things. I totally cannot wait for the next one!!!
This is a good Alastair Stone story. The plot is strong following what happened to Stone after he saved his son from his dragon ancestor in the last book. The pace was good, keeping my interest with equal parts action, details, and conversation. I look forward to reading the next book.
Well that was amazing, Stone trying to get used to some things being different and trying to find out what he's been asked to do!! Yeah it's very vague, but we don't want spoilers do we? Just brilliant!! Can't wait for the next one!
I've been reading the stone series for a bit and each book keeps getting better. The characters are intriguing, developed and yet still imperfect that makes them relatable.
I don't know how but it just gets better. I am so glad you do not feel you have to add a bunch of sex to your story to make it good.I love your mind and how you come up with your stories they are all excellent thank you for sharing as always can't wait for the next one!
R. L. King has a limitless imagination that continues to give his readers exciting adventures along with heartwarming personal touches for Alastair and his growing family group. Can hardly wait for Blood Ties!
To be frank, the last couple of books were a bit off for me. And the beginning of this one was a bit odd.
However! After that it picks right up. It was a very good story, and not only that, opened up possibilities for new storylines, perhaps even a spinoff?
