Best book I've ever read in my entire life deserves way more than 5 stars and I highly recommend it. The writer has a huge writing prowess & the plot is executed almost perfectly.

I've been nicely surprised by this book, something I did not expect from the blurb.
Not only the changes and difficult adaptation, which are told with a depth first unsuspected.
Also, the plot unfolding in the latter part, even though it has elements reminiscent of a classical one, adds suprising twists and intertwins finely with the previous part of the story.
I recommend, even for one without much taste for transformation stories such as I. This story is more than just that.

I've seen reviews about this book and it's unrealistic acceptance of the plot point: a human just "randomly" transforming into a dragon, and nobody /appears/ to be losing their minds I've that fact.

Ironically, the book does actually dive into that point. It's actually the one of the major driving forces of the plot. It just doesn't become obvious until around a third of the book in.

That said, I do have to admit: there is still an unrealistic level of acceptance about everything, on the whole. But it's not actually destructive of the story, itself. However, as noted, when you stop and think about the things happening, and why they do, almost all of it derives from the fact most of the principle characters have been rejected in some important ways by others, both humanity and dragons alike!

Granted, while some might note the unrealistic acceptance by others, beware (in a good way) that the plot does not shy away from the fact life happens and even people you thought were good aren't necessarily, people you thought were bad might just be in pain, and just because your a main character does not mean you'll live to see the end! /That's/ a simple realistic truth of life!

And no, I did not mark spoilers for that part because you'll not expect who survives and who doesn't! It's really not clearly see anything foreshadowed, nor are many of the final events and their outcomes. Which is also realistic of life! I was genuinely shocked multiple times because I did not much foreshadowing, then BAM! I'm nearly crying because a favorite of mine dies in an entirely realistic scenario!

Despite some personal issues with the writing style, I did really enjoy this book. My only wish is that the pacing was handled a bit better. Several parts of the book felt rushed, like we needed more time to properly explore the setting.

I generally find myself avoiding fantasy stories with a "real world" setting, and I put off reading this one for quite some time for this reason alone. I kept coming back to it for some reason and given it was only a single book and not a huge time commitment on my part I decided to go for it.

I'm glad I did.

While I still maintain the story could have been set in a world created by the author where they could have taken more artistic license to make the idea of such a radical change to be at least a little more plausible to the reader I still enjoyed the overall story here. I found this book to be very well written, it flowed nicely and it just kept moving forward never feeling like there was any unnecessary filler. Every part of it seemed important to the story as a whole and at no point was I tempted to skip or skim over anything. My only other nitpick is that (unless I missed something) I felt the turn of events taken at the end was not foreshadowed anywhere earlier.

For these reasons I kept thinking I would give this book 4 stars but the authors themes of morality and coping with loss touched me in a personal way with the end of the book pushing it to 5.

It is rare from me to write a review of anything. Usually I just keep my thoughts for myself. But this one time I'm feeling more than grateful to tell this book was more than what I expected. It is rare to read a book with dragons who are not mindless monsters but caring, magnificent creatures. I bought this book a year ago and usually I finish stories much quicker but I just don't want this story to end. But in the end I just felt guilty not finishing it, always reading a bit more and more and just recently got the strength to finish it. I smiled, I genuinely cried and now that I reached the end of the story I just feel empty. I need more time to process my emotions, but I will surely reread it again and again.

These lines are for you Mr. C.B Morgan. From one daydreamer to another.
If you are reading these lines, I just want to say, thank you! Truly! This modern world can be harsh and unforgiving, but stories like these can make a connection with others who feel the same way. As I'm writing these lines and looking out the window, glancing at the starry night sky, I just hope you are well and your athka shines bright wherever you are now.

Unfortunately, this book wasn't for me, I am shelving it away as did-not-finish at 31%.

The premise is interesting, but the style of storytelling did not agree with me at all. It felt a little shallow, without appropriate gravitas, given the events described. I've found my suspension of disbelief challenged by the descriptions of reactions of other people regarding the transformation of the protagonist and I was also irritated by certain behavior of the protagonist after the transformation.

I recognize that my dislike for the storytelling is very subjective, though. I don't think there's something really wrong with the story per se and I would still recommend it to folks who like transformation stories in general. Perhaps I would suggest it to a younger audience, but it might just be me.

4.5 out of 5

Many of us have dreamed of becoming dragons. This story shows us the ups, downs, and consequences of what would happen if those dreams came true one day.

Dragon Dreams is an emotional ride. All too many times I felt like crying due to certain story-beats, relatable themes, and everything the main character was going through. On top of a creative take on dragons, the well realized characters, the world-building, and an intriguing antagonist who isn't what he seems, this is easily one of the better dragon stories I've read in recent memory.

Despite my praise and how much I personally enjoyed this book, it does have quite a few problems. The ending felt rushed, the surprise villain had absolutely no build-up, a few plot-threads and questions were never resolved, and some of the character interactions, relationships, and reactions to everything were either rushed, didn't make sense, or didn't feel realistic.

Still, in the end this was an amazing original dragon story, and one that I will definitely be re-visiting in the future. I kind of hope there will be a sequel, if only to get some answers and conclusions to the loose plot-threads.
