Dislikes: None. I ate this up.

Likes:

Sam. He’s persistent, smooth, protective, moody and helplessly in love w Mia Devlin (as we all are because she’s a babe)

Mia. She’s independent, confident, loving and selfless. She knows what she wants in life and goes for it like an absolute queen 😌

The lighthearted teasing was so cute & fun!!!
“Come in and play.”
“Too old for games.”
“I’m not.” She slid into the water, skimmed through it like a mermaid. “But I forgot. You’re nearly nineteen. Too dignified to splash around in the water.”
“I’ll give you dignity,” he said, and dunked her.

CHAPTER 12!!! MY FAVORITE CHAPTER and that’s saying a lot because I enjoyed all of them. I loved it sm there was skinny dipping fun, banter, tickling teehee, sleeping next to each other (innocently not in a sexy way—that came later). She also had a nightmare and he stroked her hair and comforted her until she was able to fall asleep again 🥹 warning: long quote incoming
“You said it was a tie, and I said I’d crushed you. When you got huffy, I dunked you.”
“When I protested your bad call, you dunked me,” she corrected.
“You retaliated, as I’d anticipated, by locking your arms around my knees and hauling me under. Whereby, I could engage you in the sort of battle that allowed me, at last, to get my hands on your excellent ass. It was a moment for me. Then you giggled.”
She made a derisive sound. “I’ve never giggled in my life.”
“Oh, yeah, you did. You giggled and squirmed and wriggled around until I was so worked up I thought I’d explore.”
“Foolish, foolish boy. When you wrestle naked with a female, she’s bound to discover just where your brain cells have gathered.”
“You were fifteen. What did you know?”
Now she smirked. “Enough to wriggle and squirm until I obtained a satisfactory result.”
“You did it on purpose?”
“Of course.”
“That better be a lie.” He reached across the water, grabbed a handful of her hair. He tugged at her hair until their bodies bumped. He trailed a fingertip down her torso, back up again. “I bet I can still make you giggle.”
Before she could evade, he nipped her by the waist and turned her facedown in the water. Taken by surprise, she flailed for a moment, then rolled when his fingers moved unerringly up her ribs. “Stop it.” Her hair was in her face, saltwater in her eyes.
“Giggle,” he insisted, tickling ruthlessly. “And squirm and wiggle.”
“You idiot.”
She couldn’t see or catch her breath. Despite her struggles the helpless and foolish laughter escaped. It rolled out of her and over the waves as she slapped at him and tried to wiggle free.

He whispers sweet nothings in Gaelic during the steamy scenes *faints* I didn’t know whether to swoon or start Googling translations (spoiler alert: I did both)

When he calls her baby 🥰
“Don’t sit on the–” She bit off a sigh because he’d already lowered himself to the coffee table facing her. “I see you never have figured out the difference between a table and a chair.”
“They’re both in the furniture family. There, you’ve got some color coming back. Good thing I came along to annoy you.”
“Just my lucky day.” He took her hand again, warming it in his. “What scared you, baby?”

Strong female friendships. Woohoo! Girl power! 🌸🎀🦩💕🌷👛 Nell, Lulu & Ripley were so loyal and supportive of Mia. They were all genuinely happy for each other when they succeeded in something and it was so heartwarming :,) I love to see women supporting women. No girls hating on girls in this house 😎 Mia’s friendship with Zack was also adorable

Ripley. She’s sassy, loud and witty. I loved all the side characters, but she was my favorite.

Zack & Nell, the healthiest and happiest married couple. They communicate, compromise and cherish each other—the three Cs

Sam isn’t shy about the fact that he’s obsessed with her. I love a man who isn’t afraid to shout their love and adoration from the rooftops.
“Your neighbor isn’t gullible or naive.”
“No, she’s just the most beautiful woman I’ve ever known.”

When he said he’d prefer death over not touching her lol
“Touch me. Don’t stop touching me.” He’d have cheerfully died first.

This closes out the series. It's not that I didn't love it, cause I did. But...ok, here's the deal. He dumps her harshly and then ten years later he returns expecting to romance her back into his bed.
What he didn't bank on was how much her heart was broken. He knew he hurt her. "I did mean to hurt you. And I'd say I did a damn good job of it." Yep, he would have needed an ambulance after making a comment like that. 🚑
She rebuilt herself on the ashes he left. She was stronger, but he does manage to romance himself back in, slowly.
As you can tell, I never warmed up to him. But it was still an excellent ending to the series.

While I still liked this book, it was my least favorite of the Three Sisters Island trilogy. I liked the plot as it dealt with resolving the threat to the island and beating the evil. I thought that was done well.

What I didn't particularly like about the book was the romance between Mia and Sam. It didn't quite work for me. Mia keeps her heart locked away from Sam for the whole book (with good reason mostly) then at the end, she's suddenly like, okay, I accept you and your love. The abrupt change in her feelings came off a little...weird for me. Their romance just has this rather cold vibe. She sleeps with him, does things with him, but she's constantly saying "I'll never risk my heart again" and saying it's just sex and fun. I would have liked to see Mia soften toward him a little more before the end.

The other thing that kept me from really loving the book was Mia herself. I just didn't like her as much as the other characters. Maybe it was her attitude and arrogance...I'm not sure. But at times for me, she was just a character who was there, not one I was actively rooting form

But aside from that, still a good book and a nice conclusion to the Three Sisters Island trilogy...which is my favorite of all Nora's trilogies.

This reunion story didn't work for me. I was too busy rolling my eyes to fully enjoy this corny mess.

The hero dumped the heroine because he felt suffocated by her and doesn't return for 11 years. She, of course spent those years torn apart, struggling to survive without him. The day he returns, she decides she will have sex without the "relationship" with him *rolls eyes* when he tells her he wants her back. Does that sound like what a rational woman will do to the guy who dumped and shattered her heart? She does everything with him except eat out and says she's not emotionally involved. And yet as a reader you can see that's a bald faced lie.

This just made the book drag on and left me feeling dissatisfied because I didn't feel the hero groveled much at all.

Eleven years ago, 20-year-old Sam Logan dumped 19-year-old Mia Devlin because he felt "trapped" by her love and life on the New England island where they grew up. He vowed he would never return. So naturally he decides to come back, make his home there, and resume his relationship with her.

Nothing about this book made me warm up to Sam, ever. But the stake in his heart, the tombstone on his grave as a romantic hero is when he arranges for Caroline Trump, a beautiful author of popular romantic suspense novels (*eyeroll* enjoy the self-insert, Nora), to do a book signing at Mia's bookstore...without telling her that he and Caroline had been lovers in the past. Because when you're trying to convince someone whose heart you broke to give you a second chance, naturally what you want to do is force them to socialize with the lovers you had during your break.

To guarantee that I would hate this intrusion even more, Roberts makes that the impetus for the protagonists to have sex for the first time since their break. Because NOTHING makes a woman hotter for sex with a man than meeting one of his lovers.

And then to make the whole incident an absolute dumpster fire, we have the now-married Caroline assuring the heroine that "Sam and I haven't been anything but friends for more than four years...," while Sam later reveals that he decided to come back to the heroine FIVE years ago, after some mystic experience at a cave in Ireland. I'm just saying that Roberts had the opportunity to suggest Sam had been celibate since making his decision to (really slowly) return to Mia and the island, and instead she chose to leave room for doubt. LOTS of room.

Also, really, why are we having a book signing in the middle of some magical crisis on the island? FOCUS THE PLOT.

Even though magical Mia is outwardly cool and indifferent to Sam's return, it's easy to see that inside she's a mess of hurt. And while Roberts wants to pretend that Sam has obstacles to overcome in winning her back, everything comes too easy to him. EVERYTHING. No grovel, no genuine remorse. Here's an early dialogue between Sam and one of Mia's sisters-in-witchdom:
"Did you make all the right choices, the best choices, the wisest choices, when you were twenty?"

She slapped on the hot water, squirted soap under the stream. "I never deliberately hurt someone."

"And if you had, deliberately or otherwise, how long would you expect to be punished for it? Damn it!" He swore as she ignored him, then switched the water off himself.

I don't know, Sam. Maybe longer than the one hour you've known this woman you're talking to? Or the two days you've been back in town? Maybe, you think, it might take as long as a week to make up for eleven years, you self-entitled whiner?

2-star book with that unearned bonus star because I haven't read the preceding books in the series.

4.5 stars!

I love this heroine, and I LOVE how she treated the hero here, yes love it!
Who does he think he is? Left the girl for 11 years and told her he wouldn’t be back and now he returns and expected her to welcome him with an open arms? Yeah, right! Bloody idiot!

So, of course she welcome him back in her bed but not in her heart. Lol.
This more like one grovel story of him hoping she will love him again..
Don’t worry, she had a wonderful life too when he went away and didn’t live in the fridge!

All end up good and the witches elements very strong here compared with previous book in the series.

I never thought I'd give it five stars in the end, but there you have it. The entire premise of this book (not the series!) was based on the fact a nineteen-year-old girl knew what love was when she loved Sam Logan eleven years ago. A love so strong, so powerful, she'd shattered when he left. You were nineteen, girl! What did you know?!

Lucky he left, because he did them both a huge favor. She grew stronger as a witch, he became a man who finally knew what he wanted, and they could discover what love was together when they were both adults.

I didn't like the fact she held a grudge so long, because the reason for that grudge was stupid, if you ask me. Lucky for her (and me), Sam had a (rather) reasonable head on this shoulders—all men had in this series, while the women, the strong witches that spoke against strong negative emotions held grudges, were angry, wanted to kick Sam's butt etc. Very mature, ladies.

And I still gave it five stars. Why? Because, despite the stupid grudge-holding, this book rocked. The last in the trilogy, it was the most 'action-y', it had the most spells, it had the final battle between good and evil (which never gets old, it seems)...And it was scorching hot (you know what I mean). I never expected such 'burn' from NR, let me tell you. She usually writes rather tame love scenes that are all about imagination, but this time...Whoa. There was imagination involved, but she also 'showed' the heat.

I guess Dance Upon the Air is still my favorite in this trilogy, but this last installment is hot on its heels.

"Fate moves us, and then we choose."

A huge jump from the last time I read it, and I'm so grateful for the second opportunity to love it. I do admit that Sam Logan is still the bane of my existence, but I understand him a bit better now at the very least. Mia, whom I did not give a moment's consideration the first time, has changed my mind. Mostly because while she is my least favorite type of heroine, she's a strong one who doesn't put up with anyone else's bull. See, Sam Logan.

She stands up for herself in the most beautiful of ways during Face the Fire, and I was so glad to be a part of it.

While this book is still not my favorite of the series, it carried a lot more to it this time around. I loved the family aspect, getting to see Ripp and Nell and the families they're building. All those years ago I knew I would love Three Sisters Island in the right headspace and I was not disappointed in the slightest there. It feels like home, even when it wasn't.

It felt like coming home. Because family is entirely too special not to think about all the time, and this one is beautifully made and cultivated in the most wonderful ways. They all chose the fate they could live with, the one that helped them breathe easier. And they did it together.

Because three is always stronger than one, and trust and love are the strongest forms of magic to exist.

This audio book did not work for me on so many levels. I didn’t like the heroine, I didn’t like the hero. I didn’t care for the supporting characters. I thought parts of it were downright stupid and it emphasizes all the reasons I do not read Ms. Roberts trilogies any longer.
That’s it in a nutshell though I suppose I should give a bit more detail, otherwise it will sound like one of those ‘crap’ reviews that can be found on Amazon.
I have to start out by saying I’ve loved Nora Roberts for a long time. I still love her as JD Robb and I still enjoy her single title books though I don’t read that many due to price. I did very recently purchase Whiskey Beach and Honest Illusions as ebooks when they were for a good prices. But I gave up her trilogies a long time ago as the characters seen all interchangeable after having read a number in my earlier romance reading days. I’m going to come down on the author and it hurts to do so as I have a tremendous amount of respect for her talent but in the trilogies she has 3 basic types, mostly heroines but I have read a series where the heroes fell into this pattern too.
There is what I call, “earth mother (father)” type. All she (he) really wants is to be a good wife (dad) and possible mother (father). She’s (he’s)tried to womanly (beta manly) things like cooking, cleaning, raising plants, that kind of thing. She’s often been abused by a previous boyfriend/husband the hero for this type ‘rescues’ her.
The second type of heroine (hero) is the ‘tough’ type. She(he) has a tough exterior hiding a heart of gold of course. She often holds a traditionally more masculine type job, cop, firefighter, works on a boat, that kind of thing. Eve Dallas for example is this type.
The third type is what I think of as ‘high maintenance’. Usually this heroine (hero) is very stylish, sure of herself and her place in the world. High maintenance probably isn’t a fair label, but she is the most confident of the three and has a successful career.
In Face the Fire, Mia is the third type and my least favourite. I can’t really relate to this type of heroine and in all the trilogies this is my least favourite type. I didn’t care for Mia; she comes across to me as rather cold even though her ‘element’ is fire. Yes, she had her heart crushed by Sam when she was very young. And her parents did pretty much abandon her. And to keep the hurt at bay she gained a very strong mask, but I still didn’t like her. And Sam was an awful hero. He selfishly left her when they were young, breaking her and didn’t even give much of a reason for it. He doesn’t have anything to do with her for ten years and though he realizes he may have a bit of work ahead of him in getting her back, he figures it’s pretty much a done deal. Ass hat.
The woo woo part of it didn’t work for me at all either. Both Sam and Mia are witches though I always thought a male witch was called a warlock. They are often sending out spells and maybe because I listened instead of reading where I could just skip them they were, well, stupid. Every time either one went off into spell working land I rolled my eyes, even though I was driving in a car.
I have very little experience with audio books but the reader’s voice didn’t impress me at all. When she was speaking in the characters voices it was almost like nails on a chalkboard for me. I winced and hunched my shoulders.
The plot was simplistic – some Evil Force on Sisters Island wants to drive Mia out and take over the island. This is the third book and The Force tried with Nell, the ‘earth mother, abused wife’ heroine in the first book and failed and then again with Ripley, the ‘tough’ heroine in the second book and now finally with Mia in this one.
But after finally forgiving Sam and embracing love, Mia triumphs over evil along with the help of her two ‘sisters’ and Sam. At the risk of being a negative Nellie – gag me. I don’t give this low of grades often but with so many things working against it for me this gets a very low grade.

I found it very easy to not like Sam along with all women. I was stunned when I realized that Sam thought all he would have to do was come back and he would be back with Mia. I loved that Nell and Ripley gave him the cold shoulder too, in support of Mia. The whole big bad showdown was sort of a letdown after 3 books.

¡pues no! y me he enfadado, mucho.

Aside from the fact that the cover of the third book doesn't match the set of books 1 and 2, this was a very satisfactory finale to another great Nora Roberts trilogy. Romance, paranormal, and the ties that bring a chosen family together. Now that Nell and Zach are blissfully happy and Ripley and Mac have found their happily ever after, readers can now find out why Mia has remained single all these years. Twelve years ago, Mia watched as her first love, Sam left her behind. Now he is back on Three Sisters Island and he is ready to commit to the dreams Mia once shared with him. But can Mia's heart forgive the hurt that he caused?

This was absolutely fabulous. I loved how Nell and Ripley protected Mia. It showed how close the three women had become in such a small time frame. I liked the magical twist( won't spoil a thing) and I loved how everything came together at the end of the novel. I enjoyed my weekend reading of this trilogy and was sad to say good-bye to these three couples. I rated all three books as 4 stars because each book was as consistently rich in its plot as its predecessor.

From the massive amount of books I’ve read by Nora Roberts,I’ve learned something.’If you loved the first book, never expect the sequel or the others in the series to be as good as the first one.’It’s a lesson I learned throughout my experience of Roberts’ works.

I went through the same thing in Face the Fire.I loved the first book,Dance Upon the Air and I enjoyed the second one,Heaven and Earth so initially I had a little hope for Face the Fire.
But of course,it turned out to be a disappointment.Even though this book answers a lot of questions and is a great conclusion for the mysteries, the story itself was not at all great.

I’ve always liked Mia.In the first two books, she has always been a character I admire. And Sam is wonderful too.So it’s hard to understand why I didn’t like this one.

Sam and Mia’s story is kind of like the teenage-sweethearts-meet-again-and-fall-in-love-again-with-loads-of-flashbacks.Still the girl is reluctant to love again and get her heart broken.Well it’s a Roberts’ book for God’s sake, when did the heroine fall in love quickly?

The romance was flat and the whole craft thing has become a little tiring.Since Mia has always been the person who mends the craft business,it’s a little overwhelming when she’s the main character.
So mostly,Face the Fire was a great book, but it didn’t manage to amaze me.

Sometimes in a trilogy, the third book seems to lose something. It is almost as if the author is trying to stretch the story too far. Fortunately for the readers, this doesn't happen in this series! Nora Roberts produces a third book about the final important character on the Three Sisters Island. As usual she maintains the storyline while opening up a new tale about another woman that is directly associated with the other two from the previous books in the series.

Face the Fire is about a woman, Mia, who had forsaken love when she lost the one man that she could ever fall in love with. Sure, there were other men in her life but there was only one true love that she gave her heart to. When she was younger, he broke her heart when he went away. Well, guess what? He comes back after about 20 years and expects her to fall into his arms? I don't think so!

Mia is a woman that put all her efforts into running a successful bookstore and cafe. She built a place where customers can come in to browse her bookstore and choose a book or to sit and have a wonderful breakfast or delicious lunch. She creates a homey and comfortable atmosphere at her business where she is well liked and respected by everyone. She spent most of her life concentrating her efforts in developing her special gift and studying everything there was to know of the history of Three Sisters Island and what part she had to play in it all.

Throughout the series, there has been an evil that has plagued all three women. An evil, that started with Nell's ex-husband, which escalated into something dark, malicious and hungry for power. In the final book this great evil must be combated. Mia must overcome her greatest fear, as all the other women did before her and stand strong against it.

The third book is just as good as the rest in the trilogy. It isn't anything like a love/hate relationship but more of a woman's true reaction to someone she had loved dearly who broke her heart and then pops up out of the blue to try to rekindle what they once had for each other.

I was eager to read the final chapter in the series. I like how Nora Roberts took her three books in the trilogy and expanded them to incorporate each of the main characters. The reader gets to know Nell, Ripley and Mia from the first book, then the author concentrates each of their stories one book at a time so that this conclusion links all of their lives together.

3.5 stars. It was satisfying to revisit this conclusion and finish out the series again, especially since I had the fondest memories of this particular installment. I enjoyed going back to it for the most part, and while there are certainly things that I can nitpick at, I still had a good reading experience overall seeing how the story of the Sisters, of Mia Devlin and Sam Logan, would come to an end.

For the record this was the first Nora Roberts series/book I read.

Of the three stories I liked this one the least.

First off: the hero dumped the heroine 11 years ago...and she sleeps with him within a few weeks (if that). Then tries to maintain a "no strings attached sexual relationship" with him...(the guy she's pined over for 11 years...yeeeah, whatever...

Then: the witch she is within, "Fire", killed herself 300 years ago because the Silkie (or some say Selkie) she loved left her. I REALLY had a problem with that part, because the book painted this as a tragic love while I interpretted it as a witch/woman who held a man hostage against his will for years.

Their story: Fire found a Silkie that she instantly fell in love with, so she hid his phelt (or whatever it was) from him so he couldn't leave her. When he found it (years later), he left her and their children. NOWHERE in the book did it EVER mention that HE loved HER; or that he WANTED to be with her...it seemed as though she kept him as her love slave with no regards to how he felt...(if the roles were reversed and a man did this to a woman, no one would have thought that tricking her into staying with him or not giving her the choice to give up the phelt (whats-its-name) which would free her as being "romantic")...REALLY PEOPLE, huh?

WHAT I DID LIKE:
I liked that Mia's character was consistantly logical, true to herself and honest...and I even liked the hero, Sam. I can understand that he felt smothered so he ran, but when he realized that she's the one that he wanted; he was willing to do whatever needed to be done to win her love back.

I'm not sure whether I'm going to read another Nora Roberts series after this one...for now, I plan to read the "Black Dagger Brotherhood" by J.R. Ward...maybe if that's too dark for me I may come back up for air by read another Nora Roberts book...

Kind regards,

Rae

So this is the wrap up to Three Sisters - the final showdown with the big evil. A bit disappointing actually. First of all, I've never liked the reunion romances, where the guy dumps the girl and then comes back begging for another chance. Especially in the case where there is love and he throws it back in her face and goes away. So I found it hard to forgive Sam Logan for leaving Mia, the heroine, brokenhearted and alone for 11 years. Apparently the heroine didn't have as much trouble, but I wasn't ready to forgive him. Especially when that sort of action causes harm...and it changed Mia, made her less trusting and less open. Now I can deal with this sort of thing when the hero gets a slap in the face - when he realizes and truly feels guilty for the damage his actions (whatever their motivation) caused. And I would think that leaving the woman you love without a word for 11 years would cause a lot... So there's that...

Then there's Mia herself. I like a confident heroine, but when it looks too much like smugness, and it does sometimes, then I'm not a fan. Sometimes it looks like arrogance and vanity as well. Not good traits IMHO. So it wasn't my favorite.

I KNEW THIS WOULD BE MY FAVOURITE! I was so sure that something was missing on the previous 2 books but I just couldn't figure out what it was. I still can't but I know after reading book 3 that it definitely has something the others didn't, even though I can't exactly say what, lol. Kinda messed up, anybody got that?

I had been waiting to get to know Sam since he was first mentioned on the previous books. I wasn't sure if he would be the perfect mate for our amazing Mia (which was always my fav. character!) since he left her all alone to suffer without him for 11 freaking long years! I mean, how do you forgive something like that? But I loved him since page 1, sigh... how I loved him. Here we get to read about my fav. type of characters: Strong, powerful and way too alpha for their own good!

And the plot, omg the plot. It got way more elaborated and complicated. I loved that. Finally an ending for a story that had been developing on every book of the series.

I had an amazing time with this series and I really, really recommend it.
