Fated lovers have a rare chance to reclaim the love cruelly denied them in the past, but can they grasp this brief window in time before it’s too late?

Two hundred years ago Captain Cole Wentworth, the master of an elegant Virginian home, was murdered in his chamber where his portrait still hangs. Presently the estate is a family owned museum run by Will Wentworth, a man so uncannily identical to his ancestor that spirit-sensitive tour guide Julia Morrow has trouble recognizing Cole and Will as separate. As Julia begins to remember the events of Cole’s death, she must convince Will that history is repeating, and this time he has the starring role in the tragedy. The blade is about to fall.

“As I read Somewhere My Love, I recalled the feelings I experienced the first time I read Daphne DuMaurier’s Rebecca long ago. Using the same deliciously eerie elements similar to that gothic romance, Beth Trissel has captured the haunting dangers, thrilling suspense and innocent passions that evoke the same tingly anticipation and heartfelt romance I so enjoyed then, and still do now.” ~joysann for Publisher’s Weekly

Married to my high school sweetheart, I live on a farm in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia with my human family and furbabies. An avid gardener, I grow herbs and heirloom flowers and use them in my stories. The rich history of Virginia, the Native Americans (especially the Shawnee), and the Scots-Irish are at the heart of my inspiration. My English, Scottish, and Scots-Irish ancestors were among the earliest settlers in America. I write historical romance set in the colonial frontier, the American Revolution, Georgian England, and 20th century America. I like a good ghost story, so some of my historical romances have paranormal and ghosts in them. In addition to historical romance and Native American/Western romance, I write time travel romance (some are Scottish time travels), Young Adult wolf shapeshifter paranormal sci-fi fantasy romance, New Adult fantasy paranormal time slip romance back and forth to the American Revolution, the Civil War, and World War 1… I also have nonfiction about gardening, herbs, and country life.

3.5 stars.

It took me a while to get into. It confused me at times, because it had time travel in it. All in all it was a good read and it had a good ending. I will definitely be checking out more books from this author.

Loved it!

This was one of the most powerful stories I have ever read. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. This book has everything. A murder mystery that is 2 hundred years old and a love so strong and true that it transcends time. Ghosts reincarnated lovers and the evil murderer. A spellbinding story. Can't wait to see what Beth Trissel can do to top this in the next book in the series.

Review by Jenni: a riveting blend of romance and intrigue with light paranormal tones that grab hold of you on page one and won’t let you go.
Somewhere My Love introduces us to Julia Morrow, an English girl on summer break, who has arranged to work as a tour guide at Foxleigh, a historical home situated along the James River in Virginia. During her introductory tour, Julia learns that Foxleigh has been home to the Wentworth family for eight generations and is now managed by William Wentworth. But Julia is stunned to see that William bears a striking resemblance to an old portrait of Cole Wentworth, a handsome man pictured in his late twenties. Drawn to the portrait of Cole, Julia is overwhelmed by feelings that she somehow knows Will, even Cole… but can’t explain it.

There’s definitely something about Julia, and Will wonders if the decision to have her work and live at the house for the summer was a mistake. Not only does she boggle his mind with her innocent charm, but her inexplicable admiration for Cole truly makes him wonder if she’s cuckoo for cocoa puffs. After all, Cole’s been dead two hundred years. But when Julia’s dreams become vivid and Will starts recalling memories that place him in Cole’s shoes—err, boots—so many years ago, comparing notes may help them discover the truth of what really happened on the fateful night of Cole’s death. But could it be that the events that happened so long ago may foretell events still yet to come? And is it possible that a love from the past could get a second chance to live in the present?

Somewhere My Love weaves a beautiful historical romance with a contemporary story creating a mystery with a pleasant dash of the paranormal. Catch all that? Sure to please readers of all those genres, fans of the Regency period will enjoy the little details of Colonial Virginia when Julia and Will’s recollections take them to the turn of the nineteenth century. And as everyone at Foxleigh prepares for the annual Midsummer’s Eve Ball, scenes from Shakespeare’s Hamlet come to life at the hand of Will’s eccentric grandmother, lovingly referred to as the Queen Mother.

A colorful supporting cast of characters helps bring these stories (past and present) to life, and though there is no quiz at the end, keeping track of all the players can become a bit of memory game, especially when they take on the added roles from Hamlet. In addition, I found all the rehearsal scenes to be a tad overkill, eating up a big chunk of the second half of the book when I would have preferred a more tightly wrapped up ending. Unfortunately, the reader is left with a few unanswered questions even with the added bonus of a very short, but sweet, epilogue.

While this fast-paced story was complex with many layers of twists and turns, I did find the writing style to be overly-simplistic and lacking. It is rather unfortunate for a story with such a strong plot and steady flow to be weakened by this, but for a debut novel there is the hope that the author’s writing will mature into something that doesn’t feel plucked from a shelf of teen fiction. I also shake my fist at Ms. Trissel’s editor for not knowing that Jane Austen’s name isn’t spelled like Austin, Texas.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy this story overall and recommend this book as a pleasant read. And for anyone wary or new to paranormal stories, I would encourage you to give Somewhere My Love a try as a light introduction to the genre. This book is the first in Ms. Trissel’s Somewhere series.

(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).

(This review may contain spoilers).

I did really like the front cover of this book and the blurb of it. I was... less keen on the start of the story. I'm not a fan of the love at first sight thing and that was where this book seemed to be going. I stuck it out, though, and I'm glad I did.

It was interesting to read about Julia's connection to Cole. The concept of reincarnation is quite a fascinating one and I really liked reading about how Julia gradually began to learn more about her history. And even though I wasn't too sure of the romance at first, it did get a bit more realistic as the book went on. The comparisons with Hamlet were pretty intriguing, too.

There were a few too many female characters who seemed obsessed with Will and I did find that a little bit annoying, I have to say. Conflict in relationships is good. Conflict that comes from every other woman of the same age as the heroine wanting to steal her man just makes me roll my eyes.

This book was quite a good mix of different genres. The mystery through the book was enough to keep me reading and I really liked the differences and similarities between Cole and Will. I felt that contrast was shown more than between Julia and her previous incarnation.

I did figure out the twist quite easily, but it made sense that the main characters didn't figure things out. It was nice to see that some of the other characters made an appearance in the past, too, but it wasn't really explained why they all looked exactly the same as in their past lives.

I thought it was more interesting to see Will's journey to remembering the past. Julia accepted things a little too quickly and it was nice to see that there was some skepticism involved.

I would definitely like to read the next books in this series. I enjoyed this a lot and it was great to see how everything connected together. This was a really quick and easy read and despite the issues I mentioned earlier, it was still very enjoyable.

When Neil comes home from work, the last thing he expects to find is his elderly housekeeper inside the foyer with her throat slit. Angry that someone had the audacity to break in to his family home, he begins to thoroughly search the premises in case the killer is still there. However, before he can get up the stairs to the second floor, he comes across a beautiful young woman who’s been knocked unconscious.

When she awakens, she explains to Neil that she was running from The McDonald and went through a doorway and ended up here. She tries to convince him that they are to be wed, her name is Mora and why doesn't he remember? She is dressed like someone from centuries ago in Scotland and her brogue is thick.

Neil suspects she is his belated housekeeper’s niece come to visit and the knock to her head has addled her memory. He takes her to the hospital and from there to his friend Fergus. His house is a crime scene and they will need somewhere to stay until the authorities are finished. At Fergus', a techno geek who does some Googling, they determine that in 1602 Mora wed Calum MacKenzie and had a son, whom centuries later, Neil is a line of. Neil doesn't like this information at all, as he had feelings for Mora, although it is explainable. Mora is to wed Calum in two days, and if she doesn't, Neil won't exist. It's a quandary.

To make matters worse, The McDonald followed Mora to this time, and is trying to kill off the rest of the MacKenzie clan. Mora's cross necklace contains a key that Niall have given her in her own time, but they can't figure out what it goes to. Is it the way back to her time or does it have some other significance? With the finding of an ancient relic in Neil's attic, the mystery thickens.

Somewhere My Lass is a wonderful historical romance that captured me from the first page. Mora's confusion and how she perceived things with this time had me laughing out loud. I was is a talented storyteller!

Sometimes, lovers get a second chance.

When British-born Julia Morrow arrives at Foxleigh, an historic old home in Virgina for a summer job, she becomes fascinated by the portrait of Cole Wentworth, murdered 200 years before on the night he proposed to another British beauty, Julia Maury. When modern day Julia meets Cole's ancestor, Will, she's convinced they've met and loved before. Now, she must convince Will she's not crazy for seeing and reliving moments from the past and that he once lived as Cole--before history repeats itself.

I love historical romances and am fascinated by the paranormal. Somewhere My Love combines both in a haunting love story that spans two hundred years. Historical detail is woven into a murder mystery and romance from the past that spills over into the present in a thought-provoking, exciting story I couldn't put down.

Ms. Trissel moves seamlessly from present to past, drawing the reader into Julia's world as she remembers details from a previous life and love cut tragically short. I felt Julia's confusion as she tried to separate Will from Cole in her heart and mind. I thought I'd have a problem with the author making a modern-day woman a virgin, but Julia's character and back-story were written in such a way that it made perfect sense.

As Will is falling for Julia, he must decide between trusting his logical mind or trusting what his heart believes.

Are the ghosts haunting Foxleigh speaking to Julia and Will? Or have they both lived and loved before?

If you love ghost stories or stories of reincarnation, you'll love Somewhere My Love.

Somewhere my love is an interesting mesh of a sort of time travel romance with a bit of a ghost story. It also includes an great parallel to Hamlet, which is even better since they plan is an important part of the story line as well. It was all put together very nicely with a bit of mystery thrown in as well.

The beginning of the book did run just a tad slow at times, there was a lot of groundwork to lay. I was also a bit surprised at how easily people accepted Julia's craziness at times. Most people wouldn't want much to do with someone who claimed to be destined to be with a man that died 200 or so years ago. She was a very interesting character and the comparison to Ophelia that some made later in the book was quite fitting at times.

Will was, at first, your typical rich land owner. He got more interesting as the book went on and he realized that Julia wasn't mad, but actually knew something. They connected very quickly and there were a lot of references to feeling like he knew her already. Will's mother was probably my favorite side character. She was full of spunk and set in her ways - bound and determined that people would live their lives as she saw fit. A great matriarchal figure.

The end gets exciting very quickly and the next thing you know, you just can't put the book down. When all comes to light so many things begin to make sense and a lot of questions are answered quite nicely.

I'm a big fan of what I consider "time-defying fiction" - time travel, reincarnation, and flashbacks. The best thing about "Somewhere My Love" was that it was in the least covered of those categories, not to mention the one that I like the best, reincarnation stories. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. For one, it moved way too quickly in the romance. It was so annoying, I had to force myself to continue reading. Secondly, it had me scratching my head at times wondering what the heck was going on in the characters' heads. The best fantasy is one that is beautifully magical, yet makes the realistic parts - the characters, relationships, setting, etc. - incredibly realistic. This book failed miserably in that respect. Thirdly, all the characters had the good fortune of eventually being able to remember the past in some way without a good explanation as to how that happened.

If you want to read an amazing reincarnation story that is both magical in its mystical elements and vividly realistic in it's day-to-day elements, then skip this and read "Mariana" by Susana Kearsley.

3 1/2 stars!

Do you believe in being reincarnated? Or that you can find a true love that will span eternity? Somewhere My Love by Beth Trissel is an intriguing love story that involves both.

Beth Trissel did a great job describing the characters, scenes and emotions. I could visualize the home and grounds. The story has a very quick timeline which seemed unrealistic but again it fits with the premise of the story of two lovers coming back together. The ending was quite a shock and I enjoyed it. This is a very non-sexual book so it is a great read for any age.

As a new summer tour guide at Foxleigh, a beautiful historic estate in Virginia, Julia Morrow is far from home. British and raised by extremely sheltering and strict parents, Julia is on her own for the first time...

5***** A very good romance. I'm not sure its truly a time travel. Its more like remembering past lives. Julia our heroine has traveled from England to work in an American stately home. She instantly "remembers" Will (the hero) as the man she loved in a previous life. He knows the history of his ancestor but denies being his reincarnation. Danger lurks ,they must remember who the guilty party is before history repeats itself. A very good book.

True Love. True love will find a way to reconnect one soul to another, no matter how many years the couple must wait. That's my take on this lovely story. Not quite a time-travel or ghost story, but a bit of both, and this author makes it work. It is a story that made me smile as I thought about days after I'd finished. I recommend Somewhere My Love for all romance lovers.

Really clever idea for a story, but the writing was sort of bad and clique. But, I still enjoyed the story, so I would give it a 2 1/2 if I could, it kept me reading to see what really happened to Cole.

Poignant and heartfelt, I really enjoyed the back and forth between their lead characters' past relationship and their new current romance. I liked the heroine's step-by-step realization that she'd lived a previous life. And it was a well-executed surprise ending.

Somewhere My Love is a story with past lives, timeless love, and paranormal intrigue. Julia is a heroine both vulnerable and naive, yet strong in her convictions. I enjoyed the references and parallels to Hamlet, and the ending took me by surprise.

Liked reading it, a little difficult at times due to the "time-travel" aspect of it, since I wasn't sure if she was dreaming or actually going back and it was a little easy to figure out once the creepy stuttering Paul was introduced, but still a good read.

Sort of a twist on time travel mixed with reincarnation and romance--this was a really cool concept but I just never "bought" it. Something was lacking and the story just wasn't as good as it could have been.
