Death on Board the World’s Most Romantic Cruise ShipA high-powered group of men, legendary for their exploits as teenagers, gather every year for a high-stakes round of golf. On the twenty-fifth anniversary of their high school graduation, they choose Unicorn Redux to ferry them through the British Isles where they plan to play some of the most unusual golf courses in the world. The golf is soon overshadowed by tragedy as events from the past conspire to strip away their carefully-tended acclaim. It’s left to Hector St. Cyr, a boyhood friend and owner of Unicorn R e d u x, to bring order to the chaos. A mystery with a unique ocean-going setting Unicorn Redux is also a history and travelogue of places “seldom seen” in the United Kingdom.
If you like to play golf and like to vacation on cruise ships, Unicorn Redux is a novel to take when you next sail. Not that you’ll ever want to play golf in Scotland or cruise again. Alan Thompson has written another page turner that’s intricately plotted and that propels the reader from the southern United States to places in the UK. A map helps readers to follow the journey. Thompson describes all these places with the eye of someone who’s been there. Except for the crimes involved, he makes me want to journey to all the places he maps out.
