I've just discovered there are fics here in goodreads!! Had absolutely no idea this was a thing until, like, 10 minutes ago at most. I'm over the moon happy that 'How to Disappear Completly' is available for ratings, because OH BOY! do I have a lot to say about this one.
Before I begin, I'll admit; I read this one sometime in 2020/early 2021, so please excuse any inaccuracies.
Ever since I began reading it, I knew it would become top of my list of favorites. The characterization is wonderful and the character's behaviors and dialogues feel very natural. The issues the main character faces are /real/, and the author doesn't shy away from making this a known fact. While the romance is definitely what got me hooked into reading it, I've come to love how the book's focus isn't the relationship itself, but the recovery of the protagonist from self isolation.
The writing is simplistic, yet beautiful - it gets the point across seamlessly and bewitches you all at once. The love interest is simy one of the most lovable and precious characters ever, and the way he comforts his lover whenever he's having a rougher time is heartwarming.
Let's not forget, of course, the most important fact about them: THEY WERE ROOMMATES!! Well, neighbors... But still! Haha, this was the absolute best trope to be incorporated when dealing with a self isolating character; a bubbly new cross door neighbor to bring in the fun, chase out your inner demons and crush those insecurities!
I don't usually cry when reading stuff, especially not fics (for whatever reason..), but this is one of the few works that got me to shed a few tears; happy ones though! The ending was beautiful, and, while it felt a little dragged on, I think it accomplished what it needed in the best possible way.
