Never make a bargain with one of the Fae.

It’s a rule everyone knows…and yet it’s one Alice’s family seems to ignore. After her brother loses their entire family fortune in a wager he cannot afford, Alice ventures into the Rose Briar Woods to make a deal with the formidable Fae marquis who now owns her family’s estate—a portrait in exchange for her brother’s freedom.

But instead of Lord Ambrose, the young artist meets a mysterious masked man who saves her when her carriage is attacked by goblins. Even though he warns her to leave the woods, Alice finds herself working in the marquis’s manor.

Right away, Alice realizes Lord Ambrose is not what she expects. He’s kind when the Fae are supposed to be cold, and he’s generous even though he wants to be rid of her. And more, he’s hiding a painful past—one that seems to have something to do with Alice herself.

Soon, Alice is torn between the handsome marquis and the dashing masked bandit who continues to visit her in the evenings, but her heart tells her something is amiss.

Because it seems very likely the two men Alice is taken with just might be the same man…

The Masked Fae is a breathtaking fantasy romance with a touch of angst and plenty of chemistry. Each book in the series is a complete story, and although it’s best to read them in order, there are no cliffhangers.

This book was SO GOOD. No steaminess, not overly descriptive make out nor violent scenes, and all the swoon.

I loved both Brahm and Alice so much! Their desire to protect those they cherished and cared for was beautiful and I found myself loving them from the first chapter.

The whole book gave me Alice in Wonderland meets Beauty and the Beast vibes and I was HERE FOR IT!

One of the best fae stories I’ve read in a long time!

My first book of 2022 was a homerun!

I really enjoyed this one. Great characters, great worldbuilding, great storyline and great swoony romance! It's been a long while since a book has captured my attention and kept me glued to the pages and this book definitely delivered!

It's also a start to one of my favorite kinds of series, where each book is set in the same universe, but follows a different leading couple! I seriously cannot wait to read more in this series.

So enjoyed this one! You know I didn't like a lot of her earlier books. I had such a hard time with the female leads. I have really enjoyed her latest books. This one was especially fun! These are like my kind of candy to read:} Just fun and light. I know I am going to get lots of good romance and some fun danger and a happy ending. Even tho her books are series she never leaves you with crazy cliff hangers. Most of her stories complete one characters part in a story and start the story line over with a new character. I will be looking forward to the next:}
Some sensuality for older teens.

I'm always, always in for a new book by author Shari Tapscott. Always. I know exactly what I'm going to get and it's what I love, so yeah, always in.

What I super love about this particular book is that it has NO CLIFFHANGERS!! YAY!! I loved going into the story knowing that I would have resolution even though this is a continuing series. Yes, there will be other books, but each can stand alone. My heart loves this.

This story is my type of fantasy. Give me some light fantasy elements and creatures, but with plenty of human emotion and romance. That's how I like it and this author is really good at it. I was invested in this story from the very beginning and that interest held tight the whole way through. It was so good! We get a sneak peek at the next book and I'm excited about it! Yay for a new series from this author!

Content: mild peril, mild violence, kissing. Mention of death, gambling and substance abuse.

- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

A Dark New World

I loved this new world of Fae with their bargains. Alice approaches Lord Ambrose to try to strike a bargain after her brother gambles away their estate. Lord Ambrose, while cold seems determined not to let her enter a bargain, and keeps trying to get her to go back to the human lands.

I loved Lord Ambrose’s affinity for humans, being one myself. I liked Alice’s bravery, dangerous as it was.

I was especially pleased to have a romance wrapped up in one book with no love triangle! Thank you!

I can’t wait to see what happens next in this dysfunctional realm. I’m hoping for a less twisted monarch!

Content: the romance was great for me, but a little too heavy for my young teen (making out, multiple cases of touching him with his shirt off, fade to black intimacy in marriage).

Drake is honestly the reason why I’m giving this book a 3.7 and then rounding the book up to 4. Otherwise it'd get a 3.5 star. If you’ve read the book you’ll know why lol.

A lot of this book is just them going through life with a bunch of descriptions of scenery. There isn’t as much tension and plot as this author’s Eldentimber series which I found a bit disappointing since that series had both plot/action that held me in suspense and swoon worthy romance. This one is more the former than anything else. Otherwise I would’ve given it a 5 star.

A fun book about the Fae

I have always been drawn to books about the Fae. This book did not disappoint. A human and a Fae Prince join forces to thwart a wicked Queen. I loved their story and the chemistry between them.

The book contains some intense kisses.

This surprised me in the best way possible!

My first attempt at reading a Tapscott book wasn’t a hit, but I wanted to give her another try because several friends rave about her stories. So I kept my expectations cautious and dove in… 👀

I’ve very much in my romantasy/fae era right now, and this just hit all the boxes for things I’m loving! Particularly the vibes—the wintery/Christmas of the human world crossed with the spring court was perfection.

Alice and Brahm were lovely! Sweeter than pie adorable. I will say that a few places Alice nearly felt like a Mary Sue with her naïveté, but she was also authentic for a young woman of 19 in a bizarre situation like late. Plus, I was her biggest fan during the climax scene—she’s a hero. Brahm was an absolute gentleman. The romance itself it clean & closed door but we do get a wedding night fade to black. Personally I would recommend this for an upper YA or even NA audience.

If you love clean romantasy with forbidden romance, Alice in Wonderland meets Beauty and the Beast vibes, a mysterious highway man, and a murderous fae queen—you’ll enjoy this!

p.s. the audiobook was grand!!

Giving it 3 stars because if you're looking for a clean, fast read with some fairy tale/romance/fae feeling, this will do the trick and it's not bad by any means.

It's just...I found it boring. So personally, I'd probably rate it as 2/5.

The things I wasn't a fan of:
A lot of the plot doesn't make much sense or it meanders. I was especially disappointed that the whole "mysterious mask" aspect was over with very quickly. The characters are VERY one-panel, especially the "evil queen." Nothing notable about any of the characters except Sabine, who I rooted for. It felt far more like a clean regency romance with a light sprinkling of magic thrown in to add interest (which for me personally, it didn't.)

BUT here are the good things:
It's very clean and a nice, light, fast read. The world building is there, and while the two characters do have instalove, it's still sweet to read. There's a bit of Christmas cutesiness in there, too.

Overall, not bad at all, but I found it difficult to stay engaged when the stakes seemed to phase in and out.

This book was a little gem of a find for me. It popped up on Amazons recommendation list and I loved the blurb so naturally (because I can’t help myself) I got it. And I’m so happy I did because it was amazing 🤩. Its not the usual stolen bride of the fae books I normally read, this had more of a Robin Hood vibe with a handsome masked bandit helping the humans who wandered into the land of faire.

Absolutely loved the storyline and the slow burn romance between the mysterious Lord Ambrose and Alice.
I loved everything about it and will definitely be buying more of Shari’s books.

Content:

Profanity: None.

Violence: High mild. There is one bloody wound depicted, and a lot of past tense murders by the queen talked about. Cruelty by the fae is also mentioned through torture and eventual death (nothing 'on-screen' and not descriptive). Burns, magical manipulation through forcing people to do what they don't want to do.

Sexual: Moderate. There is a fade to black scene in this. PG-13 touching. Language indicating sexual arousal. Talk of mistresses, illegitimate children, and lovers. Language like "I want you" in a sexualized manner. There are no 'on-screen' sex scenes, but there are a few scenes that are leading up to it depicted before they stop. Specifically: half naked guy, girl touching him, them ending up on the floor...etc.

Triggers: Abusive parent figure who murdered family members.

This is my last book I'll read by Shari Tapscott. I thought I'd give her one more go, but I wish I hadn't. She just crosses lines I personally don't tolerate well. Between the cruelty (Drake's fate was abominable) and the sexual content, I was pretty irritated.

The romance is nearly non-existent, it focuses on physical attraction and a lot of making out. It disturbed me that the physical attraction took center stage and any sort of actual caring about each other's character was very secondary. It was there, I'll give it that, but it was so minimal as to be almost vague. Alice wants to kiss Brahm the minute she sees him, even though she thinks he's a bandit? Brahm responds to her advances and goes, wow I think I'll fall for her since she just throws herself at me. It's all rather...shallow.

The plotline was interesting. The Alice in Wonderland vibes were unique, and that was what kept me reading. I wanted to figure out the story. But honestly, after the big reveal happens about halfway through, it sort of wanders plot-wise. Especially at the end.

The whole Illante thing made little sense. Tension device spotted. It binds fae to whoever they bargain with, and I thought it made for a good excuse for Alice and Brahm to just stay together and get married. Why the heck Can you see my flat look from there? I feel like it's visible.

So, while I enjoyed certain aspects of the story and spotting the Alice in Wonderland references, I was pretty underwhelmed by the whole book. And I'm going to be salty about the romance for a few days likely. (Grumbles in "that's not romance that's hormones").

Very enjoyable stand-alone fantasy romance. 3.5 stars.

The world building, character development and writing were all good. I’d say the chemistry and plot were good, too.

The narration was EXCELLENT!

This was medium-burn (versus being slow burn or insta-love). I would have liked more time between them to develop their feelings. It seemed maybe a little rushed, but still believable and satisfying.

I loved how the H loved the h to the extent that he wanted to wait until they were married before they slept together. The other fae were fine with using and discarding human consorts and he didn’t want to treat her in ANY way like that. He wanted her to know that he valued and respected her, that he cherished her, and wanted to do right by her. It was a sign of deep devotion and I loved it.

I’m so excited to read Drake’s story. I hope it comes out on audio soon!

Content- no swearing, sex scenes or drug abuse.
Narration- fantastic. Loved!
Cover- great

How I rated the series-
Book 1, “The Masked Fae” - 3.5 stars
Book 2, “The Gilded Fae” - 2.5 stars
Book 3, “The Disgraced Fae” - 2.5 stars

(I felt that the last two books in this series were weak, but I have really enjoyed some of her other books in other series!)

This is a standalone fae romance with no cliffhangers! Such a gorgeous cover, and the book inside is just as scrumptious!

I read this book in a single day! I LOVED the dual identities thing, and the fae court with its beauty and cruelties! This book is just as clean as this author's other books. Now I can't WAIT until book two releases (all the way in September! *cries because it is so far away*)

Oh, this was so enjoyable! My favorite type of romantasy. I really enjoyed both leads and both of their POV. The romance was sweet and I love how the whole identity thing was done—usually its played out for so long that its downright silly. I'm very excited to read the other books, as book 3 has the story I was really looking forward to!

Where to even begin? This! Book! Was! Amazing!!! 😍😍😍 I loved everything about it, from the characters and romance to the world building of the Fae and human world and the plot!

The characters were everything!! I was so happy to see that this book is written in dual POV, where each chapter goes between Alice and Brahm’s POV! Their characters, personalities, fears and hopes, banter, just everything about our two MCs was amazing! I loved how Alice was connected to the Fae family in a way, and how that affected each member differently. Also the scene between Alice and the goblins at the ball (if you know, you know) had me laughing so hard. 😂😂😂 She’s one spunky girl! And my poor, sweet Brahm. 😭 What he was forced to do in order to help people without the evil queen finding out was so sad, and how he couldn’t truly be himself in any of his personas! 🥲 All of the side characters were written so well and my heart broke for Drake and Sabine and the horrors they had to live through. 😭😭😭 Now I REALLY REALLY want to read the next book, as it’s about Sabine!! 😆😍

Don’t even get me started on the romance. 😍😍😍 It was written so beautifully!! The way Brahm came up with ways to see Alice, even if she didn’t realize it was him at first, and the banter between them, and the oh so wonderful chemistry that grew! 😍 It was perfect!! I love how their relationship grew and developed. it was so natural and wonderful. I think the author wrote all of that perfect for them! It did get a bit steamy at times, so it’s not a squeaky clean book, but I personally don’t think it was too steamy and would still consider it clean. 😆

The world building was so cool! I loved the way the Fae world worked, and all the little things and magic about it. The tethers, the creatures, the magic each Fae wields, the differences between each court, just everything was so cool! I’m excited to discover more in the next books!

The plot was really good too! (As always with Shari’s books) I love the “mystery” around Brahm, even if us readers knew from the beginning, it was still fun to watch Alice figure it out. And the whole thing with the other “Alice” was so intriguing and I feel so bad for all of the characters and what they went through!! Alice worked hard to earn back their estate and free her brother, even though he probably didn’t deserve it, and deserves so much respect for that! I just love how Alice and Brahm fought for their relationship and were determined to find a way to be together, even if it didn’t work out well at times.

Everything about this book was written so tastefully and I’m just in love with Shari’s writing!! 😍 I literally cannot wait to read the next books in this series, and love how they’re all stand-alones, so no cliffhangers! 😆

I'm not going to lie this was a difficult one to get through. I kept stopping and read a couple other books in between then came back to read a couple more chapters of this one. I ended up skipping many pages and I just couldn't get behind the characters or their actions. The FMC has zero personality. She's a spoilt child, who does rash and stupid things for no actual reason. Everytime someone warns her that something is dangerous, do not do this one specific thing, you have free reign everywhere else but please don't do that thing it could get your hurt, she goes and does it! There are no real consequences to any of their actions, the plot is lackluster, and there doesn't seem to be any reasoning behind anything they do besides "I wanted to do it so I did" even if it endangers themselves and everyone around them.

(Spoiler)
The fact that she brought up being an indentured servant to him and then actually agreed to it is the reason my rating went from it was okay to did not like it. What a foolish, stupid character.

Quick read

Not what I expected for a storyline. Very lacking in plot and romance and quite unbelievable. Little connection to characters and lots of plot holes and inconsistencies. Like if the curse won’t allow them to marry or kiss but then that just goes out the door and poof happy ending.

I think this book was written before the term “romantasy” was used, but that’s what I would consider it to be. Alice ventures into the enchanted woods and makes a deal with the Fae marquis in exchange for her brother’s freedom and what ensues is delicious, forbidden, and heart-wrenching.

The way this author builds up the world of the fae is appealing and the sprinkles of mysteries are so intriguing. An impermissible love to top these strong and vibrant characters completely captured me. This reads like a beloved fairytale, with everything so tantalizing and peculiar, dangerous and alluring, but the tendrils of love are there, waiting to catch the fall like a delicate fairy net.

I couldn’t get enough of this sweet story and hope to continue on with the series.

Content: moments of peril; sweet romance

(4.5 stars) Beauty and the Beast's evil mama!

[This is a shared world story with the Riven Kingdom series, but it stands alone.]

Alice is young, naive about the fae, & a lot desperate. Her brother has gambled away their family's estate, & she has no one else & nowhere to go. She hopes to work off her brother's debt to free him.

It starts out like a Beauty & the Beast story, with The Highwayman mixed in, so naturally, I was hooked at the outset! There's a fair amount of suspense - how long before the pixie dust hits the fan?

The author's writing "voice" here is similar to that of her Riven Kingdom books, so this has a similar vibe to her fairytale retellings. It's a great story, with sweet & swoony, occasionally amusing moments, but the conflict with the evil villain keeps the overall tone a bit somber.

The final conflict has a well setup little twist that is so... karma.... If you enjoy fairytales, this one will make you happily-ever-after!

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

Such a fun new fantasy series by one of my favorite authors!
In this series, each book is a standalone story so there are no cliffhangers at the end.
In this book we enter into the fae world. Alice is human but travels into West Faerie to try to make a bargain with a Lord Ambrose. She first meets a masked bandit, though, who saves her along the way.
The whole story was entertaining with lots of swoon worthy and some steamy parts but it stays clean…I’d rate it PG13.
Anyway, I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

New Series

I loved the Riven Kingdom series and this is a spin off from that series.

This is young adult fantasy with a sweet love story and a masked hero. I may not have loved this as much as the Riven Kingdom but it’s still good and I will definitely read the next!

Also- no cliffhangers!
