For 48 hours, they were married. But that was a long time ago.
Seventeen years ago, Maddie Christopher told one little white lie, and it has been wreaking havoc on her life ever since. At the time, the lie was worth it—it meant she got to marry the man she loved, however brief a marriage it was—but now she’s ready to finally move on. But in order to do that, she needs to find the man whose heart she broke all those years ago and finally apologize.
Knox Channing has everything he could have asked for in life—after a career in the Navy SEALs, he’s now running a thriving security firm with his two best friends. The only thing that would make it better is if he wasn’t the lone single guy in his friend group. But after having had his heart broken once, he’s not looking to go back there. Or at least that’s what he thought before Maddie showed up in his office.
He swore that he would never let himself fall for anyone again, much less for the woman who once broke his heart. But sometimes you fall in love with the most unexpected person at the most unexpected time. Twice.
Samantha Chase is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller of contemporary romance that’s hotter than sweet, sweeter than hot. She released her debut novel in 2011 and currently has more than seventy titles under her belt – including THE CHRISTMAS COTTAGE which was a Hallmark Christmas movie in 2017! She’s a Disney enthusiast who still happily listens to 80’s rock. When she’s not working on a new story, she spends her time reading romances, playing way too many games of Solitaire on Facebook, wearing a tiara while playing with her sassy pug Maylene…oh, and spending time with her husband of 30 years and their two sons in Wake Forest, North Carolina.
A little mischief goes a long way in healing the bruises on a heart. From the splendor of romance to the heartache of regret, The I Do Over is a salty piece of sweetness that delivers a flavorful punch.
I absolutely loved The I Do Over! Samantha Chase has once again delivered another wonderful romance in The I Do Over, the sixth book in her Meet Me at the Altar series. I love that Samantha Chase continues to write the books that I LOVE to read. Samantha Chase has once again provided her readers with amazing characters. Each book in this series keeps getting better, but I think that The I Do Over is my favorite, because Maddie and Knox faced challenges with their love story. I love how all the characters in The I Do Over feel like best friends! Who does not love hot sexy men, strong, passionate females, and loving friends, who always support one another? I love how Samantha Chase somehow, she manages to find the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the sexy man. Samantha Chase continues to deliver all that and so much more. I really enjoyed The I Do Over and am so happy that Samantha Chase decided to write more books in the Meet Me at the Altar series The I Do Over was bittersweet for me, because it is the last book in the Meet Me at the Altar series. Samantha Chase has once again shown that she is an amazing storyteller. The I Do Over did not disappoint; I can truly say, that The I Do Over is an incredible love story, which filled me with a rollercoaster of emotions I could not put it down and loved every moment on every page. One of my favorite parts is how Samantha Chase incorporated the title of the book into the love story. I enjoy how Samantha Chase writes from the perspective of the main characters. That way you get to know what is going on in each of their minds. The I Do Over is a wonderful love story and is filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. My favorite moments in The I Do Over are the lighter moments where I found myself smiling and laughing out loud. I also love the parts that pull at my heartstrings and cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. The I Do Over be filled with such moments, and with so much more. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a Samantha Chase love story, especially the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Who does not love a second chance love story? The I Do Over is the story of Madalyn “Maddie” Christopher, physical therapist and Knox Channing, retired Navy SEAL and co-owner of SEAL Security. Maddie and Knox were high school sweethearts who eloped when they were teenagers. When confronted by Maddie’s parents she lies about what really happened and the marriage is annulled. Since the ending of his marriage, Knox gave himself a three-date rule. Maddie and Knox have not seen each other in seventeen years. Maddie shows up at SEAL Security to apologize to Knox for not sticking up for him so that she can finally move on with her life. Maddie was inspired to reach out to Knox by a question posed by her mother during one of her confused moments, “When are you and that nice husband of yours going to have babies?” Things quickly change between Maddie and Knox, and they decide to give long distance dating a try, but they faced a lot of challenges along the way. Maddie’s mother has Alzheimer’s, and her health creates challengers for Maddie and Knox. Conversation between Maddie and Knox flows so easily As Maddie and Knox continue to spend time together, their feelings for each other rekindle. A surprise plot twist happens, and this changes everything between them. I love the surprise gift that Knox’s parents give him. I love Maddie’s conversations with her mother during her lucid moments and the heart-to-heart conversation when Knox confronts Maddie about how he really felt about the dissolution of their last marriage. I love the chemistry between Maddie and Knox. I love how Maddie stands up for herself with her father. My favorite part of the book are the love quotes that begin each chapter. Another favorite part is the epilogue and how it went above and beyond a happily ever after. I love Maddie’s new relationship with Josie, Lea, Skye, and Daisy, and Knox’s relationship with, Daniel, and Xander, it feels like a real friendship, and I love how they always love, support, and have each other’s backs. I enjoyed catching up with Josie, Lea, Skye, and Daisy it felt like a get together with best friends, but it is bittersweet to say good-by to them. I love everything that Maddie and Knox are willing to do to have a relationship with each other. The I Do Over contains all the things that I have come to love most and expect in a Samantha Chase story, romance, great characters and setting, bittersweet moments, surprises, and the plot twist that ties it all together. Amazing story. I could not put it down. Highly recommend this wonderful second chance romance.
5 star Review The I Do Over (Meet Me At The Altar #5) by Samantha Chase Having read and loved the previous books in this series I couldn’t wait to dive in to The I Do Over. When I read the blurb for this book I was intrigued and I quickly became hooked on the story that Ms.Chase wove. It was a fun, entertaining story with characters that are easy to like and relate to. I fell hard and fast for Knox Channing and Maddie Christopher in this second chance at love story. Knox, a former Navy Seal suddenly finds himself face to face with Maddie, the woman he was married to for 48 hours, fifteen years ago. It was fun to watch their relationship develop as they realized that the spark they once had still burns bright. Her family ripped them apart years ago and nothing has changed. Can they confront the past and in doing so make a future together? One click and find out.
The I-Do Over by Samantha Chase is the sixth in Meet Me At the Altar series, set in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Maddie Christopher and Knox Channing were married for a hot minute more than a decade ago, but haven’t laid eyes on each other since they split in a fiery confrontation with Maddie’s parents. When Maddie finally approaches Knox to apologize for her role in their breakup, it is just the nudge they need to reconsider their relationship.
Samantha Chase does a terrific job with Maddie and Knox. It’s clear their chemistry and affection are as strong as ever but they also need to confront the very real challenges that come up in relationships, such as the reality that they don’t exist in a vacuum. Ms Chase balances the positives and negatives of that truth, as Knox and Maddie deal with well meaning and also hurtful interference from family and friends.
The I-Do Over is an emotional second-chance story, and a fantastic addition to the series.
If you are looking for a fun, entertaining, second chance romance look no further than Knox Channing and Maddie Christopher’s journey. This is book six in the Meet Me at The Alter Series but I believe this story can certainly be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone although I’m sure one trio to the alter will never be enough and once you pick up one book in this series you will want to read the rest. The last person ex navy seal Knox expected to come face to face with is the woman he was married to for 48 hours many years ago. This chance meeting has Maddie and Knox realising that the feelings they thought were gone, never really disappeared so will this second time around be any different ant will they be able to forgive Maddie’s family for destroying them 15 years ago……. I loved e about this couple, I adored Maddie and Knox stole a piece of my heart but it was watching this couple reconnect that really took this read to another level. A wonderful read with all the feels and a great addition to your the series.
This was the perfect second chance and we all knew that when it was Knox's turn to fall he was going to fall hard and fast. Who knew it was going to be with the one he fell for when he was 14 years old and married as a teenager just out of high school! Their marriage may have only lasted all of 48 hours but 15 years later when Maddie comes to Raleigh looking for Knox to apologize for her part in their breakup all those years ago their chemistry is still sparking. Once they decide to sit down and talk, they decide they still have a lot in common and want to reconnect. Will weekends be enough? Of course not if we know there always has to be a happy ending and these two are definitely soulmates. It may take some stumbles but it was fun watching them find their way. It is always fun watching the gang get together. Definitely could read this one as a standalone but why would you want to! Grab the entire series and have a fun weekend!
This was a sweet romance story. I liked that the main characters were already bonded before the story began and it was more of a refresher. It felt more real instead of rushed. I hope the author writes more in this series!
Knox. I love Knox so much. Maddie is great, too, although I didn’t love what she did in her past until I learned more about the circumstances. Like Knox, I forgave her and was rooting hard for this second-chance! A wonderful story!
Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes and when it's a second chance that is seventeen years in the making? Well, how could I resist that.
Maggie and Knox made a mistake when they married seventeen years ago, but it wasn't getting married that was the mistake. It was the way that they went about doing it which caused it all to fall apart within 48 hours. They've both more or less moved on, but after all these years, Maggie still needs closure so she finds Knox to apologize to him face-to-face. Neither one of them are prepared for what happens next.
As far as second chance stories go, I really liked this storyline although I will say that I was a bit upset with Maggie at times as the story unfolded. I really did feel bad for Knox and I was definitely #teamknox from the beginning although I did find myself rooting for them both to find their HEA. This isn't an overly angsty read although there is a touch of drama and a few unexpected developments. There were plenty of feel good moments throughout and I was left with a smile as I turned the final page.
This is the sixth book in a series, and I have not read the other books yet. You really don't need to though as this can totally be read as a stand-alone novel. It does give you peeks into the lives of the other characters here though, so if you've read those books, I'm sure you'd enjoy catching up with them. If (like me) they're all new to you, you'll want to get to know them better by reading those books too.
“All relationships go through hell, real ones get through it.” I love this quote from the book. Truer words have never been spoken when talking about Maddie and Know. The last time they saw each other was seventeen years ago. The day they got married. They knew they loved each other and did not want to wait any longer. Right after graduation they eloped. Coming back and her father finding out, her father threatened to call the cops and have Knox arrested. Her father also sent Maddie away to live with her aunt and uncle. Now all these years later, Maddie decides to get in touch with Knox and finally allow herself closure. What happens when she finally sees him is anything but closure. Knox has never forgotten Maddie and if it wasn’t for her father Knox believes deep in his heart, they would still be together. When its real nothing will stand in the way of being together. The road to reconciliation is not east but so worth it. Knox and Maddie had a long road ahead of them. The chemistry was just as strong but now more mature. It was not only physical. They were happy spending the night eating in and watching Netflix. But Knox had a hard time getting over the fact she put her parent’s in front of him all those years ago. Has that changed or will she still not set her father straight on the truth about when they eloped. Can Knox move forward with Maddie when such a strong obstacle stands in their way of finally getting their forever. Their love for each other is stronger than ever but is it enough? Or will they let the past stand in the way of their future?
The I Do Over by Samantha chase is book 6 of the Meet Me at the Altar series. Right after high school Maddie and Knox ran away and got married. Maddie had an intimidating father that she couldn't lie to so she told him. And he was angry, to say the least. He sent Maddie away and threatened to have Knox arrested. Flash forward 17 years. Maddie decides she needs closure so she goes in search of Knox. Knox is happy in his life and has everything he needs, and a good job but he's the only single one in his group. I loved this story. The way Samantha Chase tells the back story and brings them back was so fun. The highs and lows of a "new" relationship. A really fun story to read. The whole series is enchanting because all the background characters are included in each book so you really should read the whole series to know who all the characters are. But it's a stand-alone. I recommend this story and series
Maddie Christopher told one “little lie” when she was seventeen years old. It altered her life forever, as well as, Knox Channing’s life and future for over 15 years. Maddie finished college and opened her own sports therapy clinic that was thriving. Knox, finally, retired from the Navy Seals and co-owned a security firm with his two ex-Seal buddies. Each were successful in their lives but something seemed missing in Maddie and Knox’s lives. Both of them could not forget the “little lie” that altered of their past and closure was needed for any future to move on. This is a beautifully written story of young love lost, finding trust, having many emotional encounters, finding and accepting forgiveness, plus recognizing family dynamics for what they entail. Second chances are difficult happen but giving it a try, may change your world. Fantastic book for the ending of the series.
Thank you Valentine PR for the advanced reading copy. Review contains my own thoughts and opinions.
“A successful relationship requires falling in love multiple times, but always with the same person.”
Book six in the series focuses on Maddie and Knox, who were married very briefly after high school and then ripped apart. Maddie tracks down Knox to apologize for their past, and now in their 30s, they start to wonder…what if?
This book was such a quick & enjoyable read. I always love Chase’s ability to weave a love story, and liked the updates on the previous couples in the series! You could totally read this one as a standalone, but I recommend reading the previous books, too!
As HS sweethearts, Knox and Maddie made plans for their futures. A plan that included running away and getting married. But when her family steps in and tears them apart, Knox is left behind heart broken and with no future other than to leave. Flash forward to them reuniting years later and the spark is still there. but can Knox get over her family's hatred? Or can love be just as grand the second time around? Knox and Maddie have a love that withstood not only distance but time, making them one of the best true love stories I have read in quite some time. Enjoyable from the opening pages and once again proves that Samantha Chase understands soulmates.
This is a second chance at love trope at it's best. Maddie and Knox were actually "married" when they were super young and Maddie's parents broke them up and made sure they were separated. About a decade later when Maddie goes to apologize, Knox isn't having any part of it...at first. They have lots of things to discuss and try to get over, but they've got to stay out of the bedroom long enough to do that. Knox's Navy Seal background doesn't always make it easy for him to sit back and take it easy long enough to take it all in, but he'll have to give it a shot if he wants any type of future with Maddie.
The I Do Over was a great addition to the Meet Me at the Altar series. I can definitely be read as a stand-alone, but you'll miss a lot of wonderful romances if you skip the others!
Thanks to Valentine PR for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.
Maddie fell in love with Knox when she was a teenager but when they returned home after their elopement, she was unable to overcome the wrath of her family and they were forced apart. She has found professional success, but she still has a hole in her heart from the events that transpired so nearly two decades later she decides to see him again and make amends.
Knox has transitioned from his career as a Navy SEAL and is now a partner in a security firm. He couldn’t have been more surprised when Maddie reappeared in his life especially since the chemistry and connection between them hadn’t diminished over time. Will this be their second chance or is what happened too much to overcome?
This is a heartwarming story about two people who have always belonged together. The love and romance between them is stronger than ever but they have some turmoil to overcome and must decide if what they share is worth fighting for.
I typically don’t pick up books written in third person because I just don’t seem to enjoy them as much. This is an interconnected series of which I came late to the party, book #6. I might have enjoyed this a bit more had I read those first, but it can be read as a stand-alone
This is a second chance romance between Maddie & Knox. This is one of my favorite tropes in the romance genre! Maddie comes back seventeen years later to apologize for something she did when she was a 17 year old teenager and you’re supposed to believe they had this unforgettable connection and bond. I just didn’t buy it. Chemistry is really important for me to really love a book. The third person point of view may have been where I felt disconnected from the story.
If you love second chances, interconnected characters and third person, give this book/series a try! You might love it a little more than me.
This is my first book from this author and the Blurb caught my eye. I enjoyed Maddie and Knox's second chance romance. They were high school sweethearts who married young, but mistakes were made and, with outside pressure, they separated after only 48 hrs. Years later, Maddie seeks out Knox to ask for forgiveness so she can finally move on from the past. Maddie and Knox are good together, they have good chemistry and clearly still have feelings for eachother. Its not an easy journey for them, but HEA's are always worth the struggle!
I will read more from this author, and will go back to read the first five books in this series.
I absolutely love a good second chance romance and this definitely did not disappoint. I loved the banter and seeing the characters come back together. Great book.
unfortunately not my favorite, but still enjoyable overall.
this book is a second chance romance between Knox and Maddie. while at one point they were madly in love, decisions were made that led to them being torn apart. now seventeen years later, Maddie is still torn about this and seeks out Knox in hopes of getting closure.
while this definitely had elements i loved, there was A LOT of miscommunication and bad communication that i was not fond of. as adults, i thought their issues were going to be resolved much smoother than it did. although i felt for both characters in this situation, i didn’t think Knox was all that fair or communicative with Maddie.
overall, not my favorite story/couple but will definitely still be reading more from this series/author!
THE I DO OVER is the sixth instalment in Samantha Chase’s contemporary, adult MEET ME AT THE ALTAR romance series. This is thirty four year old, physio therapist Maddie Christopher, and thirty-five year old, former Navy SEAL/security consultant Knox Channing’s story line. THE I DO OVER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
Told from dual third person perspectives THE I DO OVER focuses on the second chance relationship between thirty four year old, physio therapist Maddie Christopher, and thirty-five year old, former Navy SEAL/security consultant Knox Channing. Seventeen years earlier, high school sweethearts Knox Channing and Maddie Christopher, crosses state lines, returning home married, ready to start their lives together but Maddie’s father exploded, sending Maddie away, leaving a heart broken Knox in the wake. Having joined the Navy, Knox spent fifteen years as a US Navy SEAL, a position that allowed him to start the SEAL SECURITY firm with his two best friends, friends that are about to discover the truth. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Maddie and Knox, and the potential fall-out as Maddie struggles between head and heart, family and friendships, Knox and love.
Maddie Christopher’s life was destroyed the day her father sent her away. For close to seventeen years, Maddie has struggled in the wake of losing the only man she would ever love, a man she betrayed when everything spiralled out of control. Needing to apologize, Maddie heads to North Carolina to confront the man she has never forgotten, a man who still holds a grudge against our story line heroine. Knox Channing never knew hurt like the hurt Maddie Christopher inflicted seventeen years earlier. With her arrival in North Carolina, Knox struggles between head and heart, knowing he may never be able to trust the woman that broke his heart.
The relationship between Knox and Maddie is one of second chances: a rekindling relationship that would continue to struggle in the face of the past, and the present that refuses to let go. The $ex scenes all fade to black.
We are reintroduced to Knox’s fellow Navy SEALs and business partners: Daniel Alexander and Josie Sullivan (You May Kiss the Groomsman 3), Xander Madden and Daisy Sinclair (The Proposal Playbook 4), all of whom struggle with Knox’s rekindling romance with the woman who broke his heart.
THE I DO OVER is a story of family, friendships, betrayal and heart break. The premise is engaging and entertaining; the romance is seductive and sweet; the characters are determined and energetic.
Samantha Chase created two relatable, dynamic characters. Knox Channing is a complex character. The former Navy Seal served with distinction and a partner in a successful security firm. He never, ever dates a girl more than one time. I wanted to discover the reason –was he afraid of commitment? – did he have a broken heart? Maddie Christopher is a successful physical therapist who wants to settle down and get married. Something is stopping her—she needs to ask someone for forgiveness. Both Maddie and Knox are flawed characters. Samantha Chase switches the story up by having the heroine be the character that needs forgiveness. And it WORKED! Maddie made a big mistake that torpedoed her relationship with her parents, friends and most of all Knox. Knox joined the Navy to avoid the anger of his parents. Ms. Chase does not downplay Maddie’s actions as she owns her mistakes and knows she needs to ask Knox for forgiveness. I related to Maddie’s mistake; she was young in love and terrified of her father’s anger. It doesn’t change what she did—but, I could understand why she reacted the way she did.
Forgiveness is the key element to this romance. Samantha Chase writes a story full of emotion and balances it with a healthy dose of romance, friendship and challenges. Loved this storyline because it’s told with a different twist; it’s Maddie who needs to step up, own her mistakes and ask for forgiveness. Maddie knew she needed to speak with Knox in person—she needed to face the fire—and this had me rooting for Maddie and Knox! Samantha Chase crafts believable story about high school lovers who reunite 17 years later. She adds in the perfect amount of backstory to highlight the couples different career paths and life experiences and keeps the focus on the connection between Maddie and Knox. Maddie and Knox’s story is a second chance romance with all the feels. Loved the engaging characters who drew me into their love story and had me rooting for their happily ever after from the first page. Add the I Do Over to your beach bag this weekend—am sure you will love the fireworks between Maddie and Knox!
Knox Channing is one of the owners of Seal Security and it seems all of his buddies are getting attached and he is staying out of the way .. been there done that !! 17 years later and his one and only is ALWAYS on his mind with all of the lovey, dovey around him. Maddie Christopher has been also dealing with the 17 year old incident that closed her heart off forever to love or did it ?? One post card in the mail and her whole life feels like it is imploding ALL over again. She makes a pact with herself that now that she knows where Know is she will make her apology in person, face to face because the thousands of letters she wrote him didn’t do the trick. She needs to explain to him why and how everything they planned and arranged went so badly wrong because he was her ONE !! But one visit isn’t hoping to be the cure ALL .. Maddie needs to show Knox how sorry she is!! Will she stay for a few days to explain or will OLD flames make there way out and or will Knox’s anger towards Maddie make her run back home to her quite safe town ? Theses two individual were MADE for each other and it wasn’t just young puppy LOVE it was straight up life changing LOVE. She has always been his and he has always been hers because the heart always knows what is just plain RIGHT !! BUTTTTTT you say .. Yes there are so many years, ups and downs, family intrusions that wouldn’t let them be together so why do they think it would happen now .. 17 years later ?? With the help of friends and yessss .. family .. Can these two forget all of the ugly memories and make new memories ?? and little ones ?? These two were so in tune with each other even after all they years that have past you hope they can work out the anger !! They need each other like air and water !! LOVED EVEY WORD !! This book will suck you in because you can see how much they truly still feel for each other !!
Absolutely FABTABULOUS!!!! I LOVED every book in this series, but, right at this particular moment, I think Ms. Samantha Chase save the best book for “last?”!!??!! When I found out that Knox was finally getting his book, I could not wait for it to hit my Kindle. And when it did, I could not stop reading. Indeed, another all-nighter… Good thing I was off the next day. But I digress, you want to know what I think about this book. Let me start off on a sour note… I hate Maddie’s father!! I do not mean your normal dislike of a person, but freaking HATE with a passion kind of hate. Sorry ladies, I cannot tell you why I hate this character so much, you will have to purchase read this phenomenal book for yourself to find out why. The I Do Over is the 6th book in Ms. Chase’s Meet Me at the Altar series. And, yet again, Ms. Chase has proven yet AGAIN, she can write romance. This is one of those ‘2nd chance at love’ stories that you just keep cheering and cheering on the couple. You just want them to get around all of the obstacles in their way. Knox and Maddie loved each other 17 years ago. They loved each other enough to run off and marry. But, one small detail, one small lie, enabled this marriage to be “put asunder”, breaking Maddie and Knox’s hearts. Will one little postcard bring them back together??? What?? Postcard (maniacal grin on my face)??? I wonder who sent that postcard??? Sorry Ladies, you really do have to read this wonderful book. I was gifted with a copy of this book because of my absolute LOVE of reading romance, but also for my opinions of this freaking fantastic book. Thank you for reading my review. So, what are you waiting for? Go hit that purchase button from your favorite retailer right now. You will not be disappointed in my opinion. You will be quite happy you did!! Happy reading!!
The I Do Over, book six in Samantha Chase’s Meet Me at the Altar series, is a sweet story about love lost and love found again.
Seventeen years ago, Maddie and Knox snuck off to get married. Maddie was only seventeen, but she lied on the wedding license form. She and Knox planned to keep their marriage a secret and get remarried when she turned eighteen, but faced with the rage of her parents, Maddie gave up on their plan, allowed her father to blame Knox, and then let herself be sent away to stay with relatives. She hasn’t seen Knox since then. Until now. Maddie shows up at Knox’s business to apologize for what happened so she can get some closure and move on with her life. When they’re face to face, though, they both realize the old feelings are there. Can they love each other now, or Will old pain and resentment hold them back?
This is such a sweet, heartwarming story. Knox and Maddie are two great characters who are overcoming issues to get back to the love they have for one another. I love that Maddie is so funny - She does this thing where she makes up her own portmanteau words, and I love it! I also adore how their friends intervened in their relationship. It’s great when a book has good supporting characters, and this one does. The friends are loving and supportive and funny!
Because this is part of an interconnected series, there are characters from other books. You can totally read this as a standalone, though, and not feel like you’re missing out on anything. Please let me know if you read this - I’d love to discuss!
The I Do Over is a five star read for me. It’s Samantha Chase’s second chance book of all second chance books … another Meet Me At the Altar books featuring our favorite characters … but a standalone if you haven’t read the other books in the series.
Ms. Chase has outdone herself with coming up with a super original plot … Maddie and Knox were married for a hot minute when she was barely underage … but something her over the top controlling father didn’t let go. Under his tough pressure, Maddie crumbled and found herself on the other side of the country. Knox is faced with a tough choice and ends up in the Navy.
Fast forward to today and Maddie is feeling that she needs to come clean with Knox. She surprises him at work … and soon the fireworks start. Maddie still has a lot of family issues going on, but she’s determined to put Knox and their rekindled romance first … all while he’s trying to tamp down his concerns about getting hurt again.
The I Do Over is a story about second chances, figuring out the family may not just be those with the same genes, and taking a leap towards a future that’s better than today.
If you’re looking for a story that will keep you up long into the night and will renew your faith in friends and true love that stands the test of time, download The I Do Over now!
… and if you haven’t read the other books in the series, block off your week and download the rest of the Meet Me At the Altar stories.
I generously received an ARC from the author; this review is a reflection of my own perspectives.
This is the challenging love story of Maddie Christopher and Knox Channing. They were childhood lovers who chose to elope immediately after they graduated from high school. Unfortunately, due to a small technicality, Maddie’s penchant to be a people-pleaser, and her over-powering selfish father, their marriage ended two days later.
Seventeen years later, Maddie receives a postcard in the mail advertising SEAL Security. She notices the picture of Knox on it. She immediately decides that she must visit Knox and apologize to him. For years she has felt guilty for the breakup of their marriage and the destruction of their lives. Therefore, she sees this as a chance to forgive herself.
When Maddie finally visits Knox, the author creates one of the funniest, sensual and most creative situations I have ever read. The reader realizes that neither of them has forgotten each other. The couple is shocked that their chemistry and desire for each other is as strong as ever. Sadly, they also realize that those feelings are mixed with confusion, anxiety and uncertainty.
Unfortunately, not only is Maddie’s and Knox’s newly-formed relationship haunted by these mixed emotions. They must also dodge the comments of Knox’s friends and Maddie’s father.
I was thoroughly captivated as I followed this couple’s difficult journey to reignite their relationship. However, never fear, Maddie and Knox will eventually find their happily-ever-after.
This is a fabulous second chance romance with a couple of different twists to the usual second chance story. I love the way this talented author deals with the emotions of lost love and the pain of deception. Knox and Maddie lives took a different path after the devastation of their teen love that lead to success for both as adults but without love. They both need closure even after years have gone by and when Maddie takes the step to makes amends it leads to a sexy healing. Maddie was a little up and down for me but she comes through in the end for her man. I loved Knox when he appeared in previous Alter stories and looked forward to his story. He’s a terrific hero with tons of sex appeal. While this story in under the Alter umbrella it’s more Alter adjacent with Knox being friends with the Alter women and in business with a couple of the Alter husbands. We did get to see the wonderful Alter women but I did miss the fabulous wedding business elements. I loved the way the Alter women welcomed Maddie while protecting their friend Knox. And those hunky SEAL Security guys are always a delicious delight. The drama was mostly family related but was resolved fairly easily. I guess this is the end of the fabulous series and characters. I’m sad to see them go but look forward to whatever comes next from this wonderful author. Loved this one!
I love the Meet Me at the Altar series. I feel like Samantha Chase could write this series forever and I would be thrilled. There are so many amazing characters that need their story to be told.
This is the story of Knox and Maddie. Their history is so messed up that I was not sure if even Samantha Chase could write them a happy ever after. Of course, she did and I devoured every word getting there. I loved that their history was not a secret. Knox had talked about it a little bit and the first word out of Maddie’s mouth, when she arrives at Knox’s work, is that she is his wife. They had a lot to work through and it was not easy or pretty. There were fights, walking away, trying to move on, but nothing could keep these two apart. Both characters worked hard to love, trust, and respect each other. Knox had to figure out how not to dwell on their past and Maddie had to stand up for Knox to her family. As they spent more time together, I could see their HEA coming and it was beautiful.
Maddie’s dad is horrible. There is verbal abuse in this book, not by Knox, but by her dad. This could be a trigger to some but it was not a big part of the story and was handled carefully.
